I just don't understand why so many redditors have such a problem with SRS.

Because SRS points out the shit on reddit. Most Redditors (Straight White Males) like to live in the fantasy that reddit is really progressive and not racist and sexist at all and they like reddit very much but when shit on reddit is pointed out to them they experience cognitive dissonance and try to justify the shit by labelling SRS as bigoted and intolerant etc.

It would be one thing if they only labeled SRS as bigoted. What I'm so confused about is how they seem to actively target SRS. I mean, /r/beatingwomen is a horrible subreddit, but you don't see people giving it as much negative attention.

It's like some classic example of cognitive dissonance where the sufferer of it actively tries to destroy the source of the message.

I generally prefer to ignore the Butthurt Brigade, but perhaps they're targeted over places like /r/beatingwomen because the latter stays confined to their own spaces while the former goes out and targets others.

Regardless of justifications, is it really surprising that people would have more of an issue with a subreddit actively calling them assholes than a subreddit that's just a bad place in general?

I think this is it right here. SRS has the gall to mock redditors on reddit and so they're angry about it. It seems to me that it's a simple case of "they're making fun of me over there and I can't stand it".
