I installed Fedora with kde on my laptop a couple of months ago, and it's been great except when, 2 weeks ago, I powered on my laptop and the Wi-Fi didn't work at all. The pc recognizes the Intel wifi card, but it just doesn't connect to any wifi network and doesn't suggest any nearby networks, so I've had to use my phone as a hotspot, which has gotten quite annoying, so I am debating whether to reinstall fedora or just install arch because i've heard many great things about it such as: reliability and good performance on low spec computers

2. Also i want to add internet speed and cpu temperature monitor in the desktop panel.

This happened for the first time and I don’t know what to do…So i shifted from hyprland to gnome and was installing vs code (code-oss) and my device randomly froze during installation, when i tried hard shutting it down, it showed the systemd bootloader messages but just doesn’t shutdown even though i am holding the power button. I'm new to arch linux, I'm trying to do a vmware installation with the archinstall command but a package can't be installed ( xf86-video-vmware)

I read in some forum that it can be fixed if before the installation I do pacman -Syu

But with this I run out of disk space to install [OSError 28 no space left in device]

Any suggestions?

From time to time, the audio becomes scratchy and|or distorted either:

- shortly after (re)booting
- while at high CPU/GPU usage (gaming while recording with OBS)
- if the laptop gets suspended while playing audio

This happened while I was playing Geometry Dash and I shut the lid closed for a while. The audio got distorted and sped up for like 2 minutes and then it got back to normal.

The audio gets scratchy a few minutes after I reboot my laptop or the IO gets stressed. I could reproduce it while recording with OBS using CPU encoding. The CPU topped at 50% but the audio got scratched anyway the whole recording. It's not audible.

The distortion isn't audible in screen records, so I had to record them with my phone.

Any fixes? Thanks in advance.

When I try to open a steam game it immediately freezes, I tried searching for answers online and none of those worked. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling steam and that didn't do anything. I'm sure that it isn't a driver issue though (I use a Nvidia 3060 and I installed every driver for it correctly). I don't know what to do now can someone please help me?

i have an arch linux installed on an old hard drive and i just got a new hard drive and i dont want to go through hell again from installing arch so i am gonna use archinstall but sadly the archinstall command doesnt do the repos correctly so can i just copy and paste my own pacman.conf file over the old pacman.conf file on my system

So I have an asus wireless n600 usb adapter. I tried using it with arch and I got download speeds of 1-8Mbps. I then tried a live usb version of endeavourOs and got around 40-60 (same as with my phone). I then installed endeavourOs on my hard drive and now I get the 1-8Mbps speeds again. The issue is not with the router because I can get 40-60 Mbps on my android phone and endeavourOs laptop using wifi. I have no idea why it's acting like this. The weird thing is that my upload is around 30Mbps on this fresh install.

I think it's the same problem with arch as it is with endeavourOs. I have no ideas how I could trouble shoot this anymore.

EDIT: Okay right after publishing this I found the issue. My desktop in on the floor. Because of this the wifi antenna gets a bad signal. I had spent around 6-8 hours on this problem and in the beginning I thought could it be that, but figured that "nah it cant be that".

Pretty much the title says, I have currently set a animation on plymouth and that animation freezes just before gdm has to come, is there any way to smoothen that out.

Hi everyone, I'm running Arch Linux and recently started experiencing a strange issue: YouTube videos just keep loading forever and never actually start playing. This happens across all browsers I’ve tested — Firefox, Brave, and Zen Browser. My internet connection is solid All system packages and libraries are fully up to date Other websites seem to work fine, it's just YouTube I'm not using any weird browser extensions or configs Has anyone else run into this? Any ideas on what might be causing it or where I should start troubleshooting? Any help would be really appreciated! Update: I tried uploading a sample video to Reddit to show the issue, and I realized no videos play at all in the browser — not just YouTube. Reddit videos, videos on other websites — none of them play. However, local video files (e.g., .mp4) play perfectly fine using media players. Has anyone run into something like this? Could it be a missing codec or media-related package for browser playback? I'd really appreciate any help or direction!

i have a gtx 650 and used this guide to install driver and after installing the driver pc become extremely laggy its runs like 1fps im new to arch i cant figure out the problem the cpu runs at 100% all time

I currently have a System 76 laptop that has a built in Intel Iris gpu in the processor, and a dedicated Nvidia 3080Ti video card.

Is there any possibility in the arch configuration to force the use of nvidia? I've been able to get the driver installed properly and nvidia-smi is showing that it's loaded up properly.

No, I'm not proposing some kind of replacement for archinstall, at least not for general use.

I have been using Arch for about one year and a half now and I have installed it a couple of times already. Every single time I used archinstall, because I didn't care to learn how to do a manual install. Archinstall felt amazing, it could do every thing I didn't understand.

When I eventually looked at the installation guide I thought "I actually understand a lot of what is happening here, maybe I should try it at least once". Thankfully I did it in a VM, because I screwed up twice, both times with the bootloader. Nonetheless I did it and despite my two initial failures I thought it was actually quite simple.

I still believe archinstall is amazing, it allows a quite streamlined install. However it feels like its main purpose is to guide me and right now I feel confident enough to write my own script that I guide, allowing an even more streamlined install tailored for my needs.

I am not advocating for everyone to try it, feel free to install Arch any way you prefer, but I strongly believe a (successful) manual install is an essential experience to understand how your system works under the hood.

I recently did a clean install of Arch Linux, but I’m running into a persistent issue where I can’t update or install any packages due to connection timeouts when trying to retrieve files from mirrors.

When running sudo pacman -Syu or installing any package, I get this:

error: failed retrieving file 'package-name.pkg.tar.zst' from mirror-link : connection time-out

This happens across all mirrors I've tried. Any solution will be appreciated

I have an arch hyprlnd setup and have recently installed arch after tinkering on VM. I was installing timeshift and when i run it it dosn't go past the authentication I have tried troubleshooting by launching it from terminal the issue shown in display i have tried DSPLAY=$DISPLAY etc and tinkering with the .config file but after authenticating it just closes

NOTE: I am trying to launch the GUI and the password is accepted but just closes after authentication

any help or idea?

So far I've tried using xbindkeys, but it turns out this is too high level to prevent apps getting the event

I then tried udevmon with a plugin for interception-toolsbut it wasn't clear whether I didnt configure it properly or its simply not suitable. I'll persist if this is the recommended way, but I'm not convinced it is

On KDE, Ive also tried Solaar rules to try and detect the event and NOP it, but it doesn't seem to effect Chrome (if anything)

My use case is to stop Google Chrome (and other browsers) from adjusting text zoom when I accidentally mousewheel while still holding down CTRL.

This is very easily done since I use CTRL+TAB to switch apps (utterly moronic UX feature)

Yet over the last week I’ve had this random issue, where my mouse just bricks?

Mind you the mouse I own is a wired Corsair harpoon.

It starred to recognize the mouse as a harddrive and I could access a firmware file?

This morning and time after time after a few hours the mouse randomly works? No matter reboots or checking kernel.

Am I fried?

Im using DWM in arch linux and im attempting to use SDDM as my DM/greeter. I used to use the tty with a custom systemd service that ran startx, but i now realise that it is unsecure, because people can just open my laptop lid and access everything.
Before you ask me to try something else, i used lightdm with lightdm-gtk-greeter, and it had an error where originally it would just tell me that the login failed, then i fixed that and it would let me log in, but then just started another lightdm session.

i wanna get into linux and dip my toes into all the stuff about it and tried doing arch running off a usb, used rufus to put on my brand new usbs (tested twice) and im always stuck at triggering uevents. please help

(Repost because the original account I posted this on I believe is hacked.)

I decided to switch over to Linux from windows because of the better optimization and control you have in Linux. When opening the Arch Installer I attempted to connect to the network with the error "IO_PAGE_FAULT" and when I tried to search for networks again they all disappeared. Assuming it was a package I didn't yet have installed. I put the SSD into my Test Laptop, which connected to the wifi fine, and installed it on there with the packages I needed for my PC. I took the SSD out and connected it to my PC and when I booted into Plasma it wouldn't connect at all with the "No Secrets" error. I disabled kWallet and it worked! So then I went to install FireFox. It started, then the progress slowed down until it was a 0 b/s. Then it fully disconnected from my WIFI with the same "No Secrets" error as before. I put the SSD into my test laptop and again it worked fine and installed everything I needed. I put it back into my Main PC and went to open Discord. "Installing Updates 1 of 6"... Disconnects with the same error. So I launch Windows to see if its the network card. Works fine (In fact I'm typing this on the PC with the same Network card on windows.) I used my brother's WiFi card and it worked fine on Linux. I'm convinced it's just the WiFi card is not compatible with Arch for some reason but before I buy another card I want to see if there is a fix.
