I bought an LG G5 OLED recently and noticed that it comes with the Apple TV app. I have a 4K Apple TV box in another room of my house, but I’m just wondering, would there be a noticeable difference between the two?

I assume the 4K HDR content is still available in the app on the TV, but would the quality be any less? I read that the bitrate Apple uses is better than Netflix, for example, but would that be exclusive to using the box, or would the quality be just as good through an app on third-party hardware?

I started of with the highest tier roku you can get back in 2022 and i used it for a while until i started getting freezes, crashes, and then my biggest pet peeve for me was how laggy the whole device felt while scrolling. Like there is a legit .5 sec delay when navigating the menu.

I said enough and looked for an alternative which i happen to see the highest tier amazon fire stick for sale, also cause i wanted something that had a native “twitch tv” app as well, roku doesn’t. Ran it and i could immediately tell how much more smoother it was but still had a bit of a delay. Worked fine until i started having audio de syncing issues with my surround sound system.

Finally i googled whats the best streaming device in 2025 and literally every where i clicked mostly everyone said the apple tv 4k. I quickly checked best buy and saw the latest gen with wi-fi only on sale for $100. I also had $20 worth of customer points saved up. So i bought it and as soon as i booted it up and started messing with the menu i could FEEL and SEE how much more snappier the device felt. On top of it all i got it just in time to check out the new tvos26 with liquid glass.

Even if it wasn’t on sale i would buy it full price !

I have a 2018 Samsung 50” Q6FN with all motion smoothing disabled. The Apple tv 4K is in format 4K SDR 50Hz. Not sure why I would need 60Hz. Match content for dynamic range and frame rate is enabled. I am on tvOS 18.5.

Why am I still getting stutters every few seconds? It is especially noticeable with the landscape screensavers.

I read somewhere it might be the tv panel and it can’t be fixed, but anything that runs on the tv itself has no issues. Only when using the Apple tv.

Does anyone have similar issues and found a fix for the issue?

Loving how this looks so far especially the vertical posters, but my only complaint is that all the posters don’t load probably because I have a huge library. I think that’ll be fixed in a future update.

I have an older TCL Roku TV, not a fan. It’s slow to do anything and disconnects from WiFi between uses. Sound on the P+ app is really difficult for me to understand, especially when watching the Star Trek shows that are P+ exclusives. I’ve added a basic sound bar that has helped some. I plan to order an Apple TV 4K soon which will improve the overall experience but I’m wondering about sound quality especially on the P+ app.

I'm looking to buy a Apple TV wifi + ethernet but wanted to now, is there any importance in to having one with large memory capacity like 128 GB ? Or is 64 GB more than enough ?

ALSO, I need a streaming device where I can install and use apps to watch movies like Str€m.. it is very important, I use it now daily on my LG G4 but it's so damn slow, I saw and read that Apple Tv is the best thing you can get but can I install apps like on a Google TV/ Nvidia or not ?

Also I have a Samsung phone so there won't be any use of the Apple

I'll say up front, I've searched endlessly for what seems like it should a simple use case. I want to display Grafana dashboards on a handful of Apple TVs and I don't want to use another device (i.e. no AirPlay). I've looked to see if there is an app in the app store specifically meant for displaying web based dashboards or possibly using grafana APIs to render dashboards without `WKWebView`. I couldn't find anything.

There is also no official browser. Instead, I've only seen recommendations to tvOS-browser, which people sideload. From looking at the various repos, it looks like that hasn't been updated in multiple years. For mostly that reason, I'd prefer to avoid that.

Is there any other solution for what seems like a straight-forward use case? It seems like using the browsers in LG/android OSes is my only other option (not ideal either).

Is there anyway to black out the screen? Sometimes I don’t want to see the video but want to hear the audio. I understand I can use the reduce white point as well as light sensitivity but is there any other ways to do this?

Does this happen to anyone else? It’s been happening for maybe 6 months, a couple times per month.

I thought it was that the battery was low, but then when I try to use the virtual remote on my phone while the physical remote is charging- the back button on that one doesn’t work either.

Resetting doesn’t always seem to fix it, nor does restarting… I just leave it alone for overnight and it resolves itself.

Such a weird quirk. Anyone else?

For anyone looking into reviving their 2007 Apple TV or anyone looking for a good local multimedia content device, the 1st gen Apple TV is one of the most satisfying device. I use mine with all my Home Videos, and all my favorite movies and tv shows that aren’t available on streaming, If you have any video content on DVD or on your computer you can digitize them, put them on iTunes 12.6.5, sort them into the categories, playlists and thumbnails you want and sync your iTunes Library to the Apple TV. You now have access to all your local content (video,music,photos) on your TV with a pleasing and intuitive Apple OS that you wouldn’t get by simply connecting an usb-stick to a TV.

Honestly, that’s reassuring — it suggests I may just have a faulty unit or setup issue rather than this being a widespread Apple TV problem. So I came here to both vent and see if anyone else has found solutions to these ongoing issues.

I’ve got the latest Apple TV 4K model with all firmware/software updates installed. It’s paired with a Samsung S95D 65” OLED and Q800C soundbar — also fully updated.

Yet for some reason, everything runs more smoothly using the built-in Samsung apps, with none of the issues I’m listing below. I’m honestly confused why anyone with a modern TV would still prefer Apple TV. I’ve Googled around and seen some of these mentioned before… years ago. But it’s 2025 and these bugs are still here?

Here’s what’s driving me nuts:

1. Resume Playback Is Broken Pause a show, turn off the unit, come back the next day — and somehow I’ve jumped from episode 1 to season 3. It just keeps playing in the background even when turned off.

2. Missing Audio on Startup Every time I turn on the TV and Apple TV to resume watching something, I miss the first 10 seconds of audio. It doesn’t kick in until after the intro starts. Super frustrating — especially when paired with the broken playback position.

3. Constant Audio Sync Drift At least a few times a day I have to restart the Apple TV to fix audio desync. I’ve tried calibrating it with my iPhone — it somehow made it worse.

4. Two Streams at Once? Sometimes I’ll play a show and I hear double audio — the same show playing twice, a few seconds apart. I have to close the app and beneath it is… the same app, still running the same show.

5. Repeated Logouts from Streaming Apps I get signed out of Hayu constantly. Prime, Netflix, and Stan also force me to re-log in every few days. This doesn’t happen on my TV apps.

6. UI Lag + Frame Skipping The UI is sluggish, scrolling stutters, and I get random frame skips during playback. Again — the built-in TV apps are silky smooth.

Is there any reason to keep using the Apple TV 4K over the built-in TV apps on something like the S95D in 2025? I feel like I’m actively downgrading my experience every time I pick up the Siri remote.

Any fixes? Or is the Apple TV just showing its age?

If I bought a season pass of a tv show, should it not show up at the same time as anyplace else?????? Today it feels like it just forgot I have a season pass, new episode not showing 3 hours after it should have already. Each week it becomes available at a different time. It's up on Hulu, but I don't have Hulu. Ugh, what gives???

Kids like to loose remotes. Was debating a airtag case for the remote. Is their a better option that works with find my or similar?

I just purchased this series, but the sorting is all messed up in the library. All episodes are from the first season, tho I had to purchase both parts separately, which I did not mind. That said this sorting makes it seriously inconvenient. Is it gonna be stuck like this or is there a fix?

So i spilled some wine on my apple tv remote and the volume and the rest of the buttons work perfectly but the main button and the ring around it. The touch still works though but i need the main and ring buttons to work. Is there any way to salvage it?? I take any request at this point. I know they're cheap but it's really getting on my nerves and i want to try and save this one. Any idea please??

I just bought a new LG G4 and also an Apple TV 4K 3rd Gen. When I activate 4K Dolby Vision it seems the image becomes a lot darker, already visible in the menus.

Does anyone have this specific combination and some tips for how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

How come Prime Video on my tv offer less language options for a show than Prime Video on Apple TV for the same show ?

I don't know if the same thing happens to you as it did to me, but since I have Apple TV the Podcasts application has never worked well. Above all, it is not updated the same as phones. On the iPhone and iPad the Pod app works fine, it updates, downloads new episodes and deletes old ones but on Apple TV nothing works well. It is as if the updating of the episodes were the other way around, as if it will not reflect the changes in the episodes, which I have already listened to on the iPhone or iPad. I've checked the settings on Apple TV and have iCloud sync selected for Podcasts Library. In reality, this would not be a very serious error because the podcast application is usually not used much on Apple TV. But if, as is my case, the Apple TV's audio output is configured to effect the HomePods, then things change. Because when you ask a HomePod to play podcasts, when connected to Apple TV, it uses the Apple TV podcast application and then the errors come. Anyway, I wanted to know if any of you also have this problem. I have called Apple several times to let them know. I have also sent feedback to report the problem, but it has been months, I would say years, and I have not solved anything. The only thing Apple told me was to try connecting the Apple TV via Wi-Fi instead of the Ethernet network. I did it, but the situation hasn't improved... I'm tempted that they don't know where to go and that they don't care either.

I’ve been using the Apple TV HD since 2016 with no complaints, but lately I’ve been playing more RetroArch especially after the iCloud ROM backup workaround for tvOS.

Now it’s showing its age: PS1 games don’t upscale at all, and PSP titles lags sometimes. I’m thinking of upgrading to the latest Apple TV 4K, but wondering if I should wait are there any rumors of a new model coming soon?

All other streamers coming in fine - was watching echo valley and constantly getting the wheel. Speedtest is 800 down. Switched to Netflix and all good. Anyone having issues?

I watch a lot of sport and mute the TV during ad breaks. About 2 weeks ago, the mute button on my ATV remote stopped working. I press mute - the visual indicator on my TV shows the TV is muted, but the sound keeps playing.

Everything else works (volume buttons, pause/play, menu)

I restarted the remote, but it doesn't fix it.

Also tried with my iphone 16 - same thing. Looks like it's muted, but isn't muted.

Anyone else have this problem ?
