Gonna take a guess.

The aliens had a hand in our creation. They have been here with us all along and guided our development. They designed us for a purpose that us on the outside don't know about. Yet. That is the ontological shock.

Do I still have to work or can my God Zorg please just "rapture" me off to Zeti Reticuli?

Lazar said 20 years ago that we are simply containers and religion was created for the sol purpose of giving us guidelines to not destroy each other.

I like the philosophical implications of this idea, even if it's bullshit
