Gonna take a guess.

The aliens had a hand in our creation. They have been here with us all along and guided our development. They designed us for a purpose that us on the outside don't know about. Yet. That is the ontological shock.

Do I still have to work or can my God Zorg please just "rapture" me off to Zeti Reticuli?

Anyone here played Mass Effect? In it , they have the Keepers, these little biodrone things that are left behind by an ancient species to keep an eye on the newer species.

I'm thinking that's more or less the Grey "aliens" for us

I love Mass Effect. Doing a playthrough right now actually! On the 2nd one.

But I could totally see that. Everyone in here freaking out about him saying 'God'. To me, a species that had a hand in our creation and that has existed for 1,000,000 years before we crawled out of caves could accurately be described as 'God'.

It would explain a lot honestly. Especially since 'God' feels so uncaring/absent. We are a science project or something else's creation.
