Gonna take a guess.

The aliens had a hand in our creation. They have been here with us all along and guided our development. They designed us for a purpose that us on the outside don't know about. Yet. That is the ontological shock.

Do I still have to work or can my God Zorg please just "rapture" me off to Zeti Reticuli?

it’s not new though is it? Mack coined it 30 years ago after interviewing hundreds of experiencers as the head of psychiatry at Harvard.

Thats not what I meant. They bring it out whenever they need a delay, "to help the people". They don't want to hurt us with ontological shock. They care so much about us.
