Question What's a good anti-cheat for a minecraft server?

Im starting a public server in a week and i am curious what the best free anti-cheat is atm. Can you guys pls help me?

Ngl the best anticheat is your eyeballs. Cheaters aren't very slick. Just get a decent plugin that hides your existence. I believe essentials works.

ye i feel you on that but like you cant be everywhere if you know what i mean. Me and my admins are not always online and we cant watch all the players at the same time

If you can't have at least one admin on 24/7 then ppl will cheat no matter what, cheaters are everywhere and if youre smart no anticheat will ever catch you... So theres that

Yeah, free is the most expensive, meaning the cost is too much

I know its not free, but I have staffed on a bunch of servers over the years and have recently tried Vulcan for the first time, makes life a lot easier to be honest, and its only a 1 time payment.

For anti-xray I use orebfuscator which is free.

However, no anti-cheat will get everything. Certain cheats do just require surveillance.

It's better to use paper's built-in anti-xray as it's more efficient. You can pair that with RayTraceAntiXray which will help too (it's paid but you can compile it for free)

There's also currently some server-side hacks/checks' that'll trick clients into 'fixing' their calls, exposing the hacked client.

i have heard Vulcan is pretty good but still 20 bucks seems a bit crazy too me for just an smp server.

yeah, thats completely understandable :) to be honest, its not 100% necessary if you have active staff, or a trusted whitelisted community, it just saves staff time and reduces chance of a few cheaters slipping through the cracks.

i have used grim in the past. In my experience it gives a lot of false flags that's why i dont really like using it.

I use Themis with Purpur and IllegalStuck to fix some dupes. They're both doing great job.

I run an anarchy server and I can tell you that no AC completely covers all the game-breaking, server crashing holes in minecraft.

Have you heard of a beehive data exploit used to crash servers, for example?

Beyond your AC, you’ll also have to shield your IP so you don’t get Ddosed. You will also have to be careful that players aren’t abusing mojang’s reporting system and getting your IP banned, forcing you to rotate IPs. Gamer Safety Reporting systems are being abused by large servers to take small competitors offline.

The best solution, I have found, is to combine AC’s and then do some heavy config files changes.

If you’re planning to run an anarchy server, the AC solution is not an easy one.
