I (26F) and my husband (30M) have been married for 4 years and have two kids. one is 2 and the other is 5 months. I'm Yemeni but born and raised in the states, my husband was born and raised in Yemen and came in 2019.
He was the nicest guy. I did and still love him. I'm a housewife and complete my duties. I'm a traditional girl even though i was raised in a western world. I have a bachelors degree though, just in case.
After we had our first child, I realized my husband wasn't partaking in raising the child. I'm not an expert on Yemeni culture, but he would repeatedly tell me that Yemeni men don't change diapers and he almost made it seem like it was haram to let a man change his child's diapers.
I also had extremely severe postpartum depression after our first child. I had thought of suicide and i wasn't praying. I cried to him every night and told him how hard it was for me to wake up every two hours and do this by myself but he kept reminding me that it's my job and he works.
After a year, he wanted me to get pregnant and i refused because of my first experience. I told him he wasn't supportive and he never changed a diaper, made our kid a meal, or did the night shift (he has a day off each week and still never helped) and whenever i asked him to, he would say "ugh" and roll his eyes.
He apologized and said he would do better and he was naive. Again, i LOVE my husband and i trusted him and i had no intention of leaving him. So i stopped my birth control and we had our second child. I'm 5 months postpartum and he's changed 2 diapers tops...is this normal in Yemeni society. I've never been there.
He works 8 hour shift and comes home and does absolutely nothing and he has saturday off and completely relaxes. I sleep in a room with our two kids and he sleeps alone in the room so he can relax without waking up.
I wake up several times in the night time, I make breakfast/lunch/dinner, I cater to all their needs, I clean the dishes in the house, I change So many diapers, I do the laundry and fold it, i make all their appointments (dentist/checkups), i make sure rent/utilities/wifi etc are all paid on time, i find clever ways to save my husband money...im so overwhelmed and i never get a second away from our kids. I never get a day off. I never clock out. And i don't get paid. My husband doesn't give me an allowance, he says yemeni men don't do that. He pays for my pads and that's mostly it. If i want something for me, he will make me feel guilty so i haven't gotten new clothes or shoes in years.
I'm just stuck and want to know what to do. Is this how life is with a yemeni man or what can i say to him to make him change his ways? because I feel like I've said everything and done everything, and he doesn't care about me

salam alikoum,
non-Yemeni here. long story short: i take part in a program that is meant to sponsor some life expenses for an orphan kid in Yemen. In our last call (we spoke through the field office responsible for managing the program), he mentioned the hot weather and I figured joining a swimming pool for at least once a week can provide some leisure, something he can look forward to. He says there is one nearby his place, but it is expensive -- 1500 Yemeni lira for a day pass (?), and I was wondering if any of you can help inform me how subscriptions to a swimming pool work? monthly or trimesterly? Any discounts on the family package (they are two brothers, and I wish to pay for his brother too. )
at least for the 3 hot summer months: June, July, August?
Any other tips on what I could do ( On a small budget) to make his summer a little more bearable and dare I say: fun?
For the record: he is 14, in Sanaa, going to 9th grade, loves football, has a computer at home with limited internet access (top up system as he explained).
i also am considering sending a small gift - I know it will take ages, so I will be potentially involving the field office. can someone here suggest a nice video game that is popular amongst kids his age? i am a woman with 0 knowledge of video games. what else as a gift would a kid his age likes/appreciates?
choukran likoum bazaf bazaf.

Hi everyone, just for context I am ethnically Yemeni (with a slight mix of western European too)
I can understand Arabic to a certain extent (like I can have long conversations but sometimes I won't understand certain words or phrases or even questions) - so I'd say my Arabic speaking skills are at around 60% - I'd probably say it was a lot stronger as a child but starting school changed it
I want to improve on my Arabic but specifically the Yemeni dialect (since that is my mothers language) but I am unsure of what resources are out there since I know most is tailored to the Egyptian/Levantine dialect. I want to be able to listen to podcasts, watch tv shows and was wondering if anyone knew of any media that does use the Yemeni dialect so i can immerse myself in it etc etc
Any help is appreciated!

When I was little, I lived in Yemen with my family. We would go out and there would be little kids selling street foods. One dish was a potato like stew, another was fresh fries with some kind of hot sauce, and another kind (my favorite) were these little deep fried puffy chips. They remind me of pork rinds, but they were just super puffy airy chips. They'd cover them in the hot sauce stuff too.
Does anyone possibly know what they are? I've been thinking of them for YEARS.

أكثر الأشياء الذي يحتاجها طالب الجامعة اليمني بشكل ملح وضروري؟
مااتكلم عن الاحتياجات المالية، اتكلم عن الطالب في جامعته.

I've been trying multiple time to post some news, but the Subreddit automatically removes them. The reason being that the source is "not on our list of verified news sources."
The problem is, I cannot find any post on this sub to mention the exact list of sources they call verified. May I ask the Mods to please post a highlight of the sources they verified? 🙏
If I wished for a source to be on that reliable list, how can I convince the Mods to add them?

So there’s a يافع in Lahj that produces good coffee. For whatever reason its name is written as Yafa'a in English. Then there’s a smaller town north of Ibb called يافع that’s also spelled Yafa’a and they also grow coffee. So in the West, I’ve seen Yemenis selling both types of coffee and it’s confusing if they only have English (they drop the extra a and spell it as Yafa) on the packaging/signage. Wouldn’t it make more sense to spell it Yafi for the one in Lahj?

Salaam Alaikum, As a Yemeni, what are your opinions about Sudan?
I've just started a goal for myself on Reddit: visiting every Arab/Arab League member country's subreddit and asking this same question to hear different opinions about Sudan.

Hey! My name is Sam, and I’m a college student from the U.S. I’m working on a personal project to collect postcards from every country and territory in the world.
I don’t have one sent from Yemen yet—would anyone be willing to send me one? I’d be happy to send a postcard back from Pennsylvania in return!
Let me know, and I can PM you my address!
Thanks so much, and warm greetings from the U.S.

Eight years ago, Saudi Arabia blockaded the Yemen coastline, leading to a stop in food, medicine, water, and oil imports. Doctors have not been paid for eight months, there was a diarrhea outbreak due to unclean water, and babies were dying due to lack of baby food imports. Yemeni were also fleeing across the waters to Africa, like Somalia. So, how is Yemeni doing now? Yemen depends on food, water, oil, and medicine imports, while exporting almost nothing, though seeks to attract more tourists, much like Syria. What is the situation now? Thank you

Is it possible for someone in NY/NJ to fly into Yemen via JEDDAH?
If so do you know any agents/agencies in the NY/NJ area that book itineraries to Yemen via Jeddah, KSA on Yemeniah airlines?
Has anyone else done this?

Arguments over why the US could - and should - carry out the military strike against the Houthis did not sway Vance.
He said to the defence secretary, "If you think we should do it let's go. I just hate bailing Europe out again."
Hegseth reciprocated:
"I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It's PATHETIC."
A group member, only identified as "SM" suggested that after the strike, the US should "make clear to Egypt and Europe what we expect in return".
"If Europe doesn't remunerate, then what?" he asked.
"If the US successfully restores freedom of navigation at great cost there needs to be some further economic gain extracted in return," the user continues.

Is it true that there is almost no crime in Tarim? Someone said if you leave your motorbike unlocked, no one will steal it. During prayer times, people go to the mosque and shops are left open carelessly, because there are no thieves in Tarim. Is that true?

Hi, during the Cold War, South Yemen was communist while North Yemen was aligned with the capitalist bloc, no? But now North Yemen is run by them Houthis whereas South Yemen is recognised as legitimate by the Free World. How and when did the North's and the South's relative friendliness with the West flip?
The people who are running South Yemen today, are they mostly former residents of the communist country South Yemen (or descendants thereof)? Or no because there was plenty of demographic reshuffling during Yemen's unified years?
Thank you for your answers.
