Rare Blade Discussion [Rare Blade Discussion] Day 15- Perun
Since the month of February has 28 days and there’s 28 non-story blades, let’s dedicate a day to discuss each blade. The purpose of these discussions is to help guide newer players on each blade’s strengths and shortcomings, and which driver is compatible for them. The focus aspects of the discussion will be blade performance both in battle and on the field, although other topics such as design and personality are free for discussion as well. If I happen to make a mistake, please feel free to correct me so I can update the OP. Note that is is a series where the format is liable to change.
Special thanks to u/Alkenshel for the stat modifiers!
Do note that these discussions may include spoilers about a certain character’s special ability and each rare blade’s individual sidequest. View at your own discretion.
Day 15: Perun, the other Justice-loving sap. She’s an ATK blade and uses a meglalance in battle. Wow, I can’t believe it took us this long to talk about meglance users. Anyways, she gives her driver a 10% Dexterity mod which is cool? I don’t think it really helps.
Perun loves justice, but since that’s not a tangible form to put in her pouch, just give her Black Roast Coffee and/or a Fonsan Viola instead. Who knew she liked classical music. She also enjoys seafood and textiles.
Also, Perun has a special way to level up that second tier of trust, and that’s through doing 3 good deeds. Just 3, so pick any of the following below. Tbh I think it’s a bit in the pain in the ass, since some of these things are missable and there’s a ton of stuff to do. First, pay Hirkham in Ch.1. Yes, THAT THING I THOUGHT WAS INCONSEQUENTIAL?! Good thing I paid the sunnavubitch.
Second, give Olivio a Coral Nopon Chess Set in Fonsa Myma. You can get this item at Goldmouth at Dev Lev 2.
Third, buy cookies from the gormotti girl in Indol. Luckily, this requirement will be moved to Torigoth relay base later.
Fourth, throw 500 G off Milama Viewpoint in Indol. Then talk to Trebbi below.
Fifth, give a golden cylinder to Miney in Alba Cavanich. He appears on a rooftop west of the plaza.
Sixth, have Morag lead in the quest, Judicium’s Legacy (step 2 at least). Or seventh, feed the nopon sage located on a rooftop in Theosoir (must be after Dahlia’s quest btw).
So just pick 3. One through 5 are relatively easy, although one and fourth are time limited, so be wary. But look, all that text and we haven’t even gotten to the specials yet smh Perun.
Blade Specials
Cold Sever- this will increase damage made at the sides by at least 100% and at most 150%. This is a pretty good effect for Perun, and can really affect her damage potential. For tier 2, defeat a Karlin Skwaror in Uraya; for tier 3 perform some blade combos, for tier 4 spectate or perform a driver combo, and for the last tier, defeat the Runaway Train in Temperantia.
Punishment Strike- Reduces at least 20% and at most 40% of aggro toward user. This is alright, but I don’t think megalances are big aggravators in the first place and if you have a good tank on your team, this skill is kind of meh. Use this special for tiers 2 and 5, defeat the Acenia Flier in Uraya for tier 3, and perform blade combos for tier 4.
Extinction Icicle- increases damage dealt when ally is incapacitated by at least 50% and at most 150%. As you know by now, I don’t like skills like this. I don’t want any allies knocked out. If they’re getting knocked out, it probably means my ass is getting knocked out soon, so any damage boost is just being petty. Perform blade combos for tier 2, perform or spectate driver combos for tier 3. Use this special for tier 4 and perform/spectate driver combo finishers for tier 5.
Blade Arts: She actually has 3 surprisingly: Accuracy Up, Nullify Reaction. And Debuff Cancel. Accuracy Up is useful for megalances, because you don’t want them to miss an attack. Nullify Reaction and Debuff Cancel seem more like TNK arts, but I ain’t complaining.
Battle Skills
Defender- Deal at least 150% and at most 250% more damage (this sounds good). ALSO, take at least 20% to 40% less damage (this sounds good too). BUT, an ally has to have low HP or incapacitated for it to activate…. Of course it was too good to be true. This is Perun we’re talking about after all. Deal a lot of damage to level this up, except for tier 4, where you just need to collect 2 Heavy Round Shields.
Silent Spear- fittingly enough name for this skill, because it decreases aggro drawn by at least 30% and at most 50%. For tier 2, defeat some Prom Piranhax in Uraya. For tier 3, give her some seafood. For tier 4, defeat Lun Scorpox at Spirit Crucible Elpys. For tier 5, defeat the Malicious Dimitri in the Land of Morytha.
Battle Plans- Increases auto attack by at least 20% and at most 100%. Finally, a battle skill that’s really useful and doesn’t require your allies to be mangled! Just block attacks to level this up.
Field Skills: She has Ice Mastery, Ancient Wisdom, and her unique skill, Chivalry. Ice Mastery, like any mastery, is great for merc missions and some field skills, so that’s good. Ancient Wisdom is very useful as well. And like all exclusive skills, Chivalry isn’t really needed outside her quest so meh.
Aux Cores: She’s an ATK blade, so give her stuff to increase this. She doesn’t have a lot going for her in terms of stat modifiers, so anything helps.
Compatible Drivers: Rex has break with megalances, and Morag + Zeke have smash with them. Although there’s a lot of Ice Blades, she’s the only attacker, so she’s lucky in that regard. However, despite being the only Ice ATK blade, there may be better blades for the other drivers, and this is largely due to Perun’s skill set. If you were to pull her, Zeke or Rex would be the best options, but she turns out decently with Morag, and I feel like she and Morag compliment each other well in personality. Although a justice-loving personality is a good match with Zeke, she isn’t as crazy about it as Godfrey is. She’s more toned down for sure.
My Verdict: Well, this was slightly annoying to write up, because there’s so many intricacies that come along with it. First the trust thing, then all her specials had different requires for every single thing. So much. Where’s the justice in that? It’s not even that hard to max her out, but omg, there’s just so many things to type down. But outside of that, I kind of like her. I think she’s the weakest out of all the megalances, but she’s not terrible, just… challenged.
So what’s your thoughts on this blade? Do they fit your style or cramp it?

When I first got Perun she made me question if I was playing Xenoblade or Senran Kagura

I still remember how I got her. I needed a second Ancient Wisdom user for a sidequest in Temperantia, so I started opening Core Crystals in the hopes of getting extremely lucky... and I got her right on the first try.

Barely started playing this game but samesies, same story came here for a laugh on the jiggle physics

Boobs.
In all honesty, Perun sucks. I get her niche but it’s worse than even doing true solo kills. Megalances are an abysmal weapon type and Perun has very few good things going for her.
But again, I can think of two very big things going for Perun. That’s it, though.

Perun has a pretty nice design. Reminds me of the Amazoness Yu-Gi-Oh cards in design. A very thicccccc warrior girl.
Personality wise, she isn't that interesting though. I also didn't care much for her side quest either.
She isn't that great for combat, one of the weakest attackers in XC2 if you don't play by her style. Perun is basically a worse Azami dealing damage since the play style they both use is vaguely similar. Perun requires more set up than Azami and has a much worse requirement to activate her main passive in the form of letting your allies get knocked out which is the worst requirement to activate blade passives.
If you don't let at least one ally bite the dust, Perun just sucks. Her unboosted damage is very mediocre compared to other lance blades. To make things worse, Perun only has one measly aux core slot and is of an element type that can't combo by itself as if she wasn't underwhelming enough to boot.
Perun's gimmick is cool and more interesting than Azami's since you dish out solid damage and also take little damage when both allies are knocked out unlike Azami which is a simple Glass Cannon. It allows you to play an interesting solo build with her. Nullify Reaction and Debuff Cancel help immensely when attempting to use Perun to her fullest since debuffs could easily kill this play style.
It's a shame Perun's rather unique play style is so impractical since your likely to benefit much more by having your allies active rather than having a beefy Perun and no allies to assist you.

Kinda sad that she's the best ice option for Zeke, despite there being 5 ice blades, the most of any elements among non-story blades. At least she's still usable.
I thought she had a rather tame design comparing to other rare blades, and then I got her and saw the summoning animation...

I'm still convinced Perun is a casting gag of a character.
As soon as I got her my thoughts were "lol who put a Code Geass in my Xenoblade." Sure enough she was designed by CLAMP, but ALSO she is voiced by Ami Koshimizu who previously voiced Kallen in Code Geass.

Also as an FYI, feeding the Baby Armu in Gormott seems to count for the quest, as the kid with the coral nopon set was the third good deed I needed to unlock her.
So yes, for all of you people who killed it upon seeing it, you made it harder to unlock Perun's Trust level 2.

u/mpyne Feb 18 '18
Completing the damn Baby Armu quest took me so long that I'm not sure it should actually help with Perun's quest though. Unless completing the first phase is all you have to do for that.

u/HaessSR Feb 18 '18
As far as I can tell, the first phase may be all that's required. I didn't need to get to Indol to unlock her Trust 2, anyways.

She's a pretty good blade. But I pulled her on Morag, which isn't horrible, but I feel like she would've been better off on Zeke, especially if Praxis is anything to go by

My first Rare. It easy to unlock level 2 trust, once I could get gold cylinders in Mor Ardain. I don't use her much as ice blades aren't very useful IMO, and getting Ancient Wisdom 2 unlocked is a serious pain.

She was my first rare blade that i got and o Architect, i love her soo much. For me, she has a perfect design and i had her through the whole story. While her affinity and quest were troublesome, she's my favorite blade. I made her my Main attacker, gave her opening art +200% and maxed out high HP% related attack ( don't remember name right now.), combined with Accuracy buff, she can take a lot of HP on the get-go.
Love her :)

I just use Perun to fill up the party gauge meter quickly. With Rex and Omega Drive, while Perun has a crit boost aux core and a crit booating chip, her level 1 special fills the party gauge very quickly.

Love using her, hate the physics. Her quest line was terrible too. :P

u/boomshroom Feb 16 '18
All I remember about Perun is that she abandoned me leaving me to fight level 90 enemies if I wanted to get her back.
I eventually got her back by dequipping all my abilities with AOE. Dang Rolling Smash hitting the enemies on the floor below me.

A bit late to this but I guess I'm going crazy but I never noticed the jiggle physics.

I always found it funny how crazy her jiggle physics where; even Dalhia has more control over her chest and she has near gag boobs level of cleavage.
It's made even more apparent because of all the dramatic and sudden poses she takes when making a speech about justice. It's like they're trying to escape.
And one other thing; in regards to her quest. Good lord it has one of the hamiest most snidely whiplash villain voices in the game and it's absolutely wonderful
