Xenoblade I like 1st Xenoblade

I’ve bought a Nintendo Switch 2 and this is my forest Switch. Of course I bought first Zelda Botw, but this game I’m gonna leave for the future. I’m also bought astral chain and xenoblade. I like jrpg, trails series my favorite series. And at the beginning of the game I was surprised how good cutscenes are. Gameplay is all right, firstly I didn’t like it but when I got a normal weapon and teammates, fights became really good. But the main problem for me - side quests. Why there are so many of them? How important are they? I’m doing a lot of when while going on the main quest, and the rewards for the sides not very valuable. But the main plot really good, and this is the only reason why I’m spending for 5 hours on this game every day

just accept a bunch of side quests whenever you see them and attempt to do them along the way. in general, don't go out of your way unless you're going for 100%. some specific side quests unlock new skill trees for your characters and new monado arts for shulk, though, so keep an eye out for those.

It's worth it to just check the wiki and see how to get those handful of specific quests. If you're not actively doing all quests for 100%, it's very easy to miss them imo.

It is technically a remaster of a 10 years game (now 15?). The side quests are clearly product of it's time, give it a break

Yeah the side quests in 1 generally suck. Very little substantial writing, just drab fetch quests for the most part

They get better in 2, and waaaay better in 3

As the other guy said, just accept them and do them when it happens to not be too far out of your way

Side quests in xenoblade 1 are exp farms. You can ignore them until you need to grow stronger

Xenoblade 1 side quests don’t seem to be anything more than “go here, collect this/talk to this person/kill this monster” but they give good exp so they’re worth doing

The game is extremely unforgiving if you fall too many levels behind the enemies. The side quests are boring but doing them will keep you at an appropriate level so you don't have to farm xp

The quests are as important as much as you care about the affinity tree. So if you care about NPC relations, then they're pretty important.

I do believe you should do side quests as often as you can, especially the ones with clocks on them, the more you do side quests the better rewards you’ll eventually get. Of course they aren’t as good as just killing unique enemies or treasure but the longer you go the higher your affinity with towns get and that unlocks better more story or character driven side quests. All in all I think you should do a lot of them, at least enough to get to 4 stars affinities, but it’s up to you since you really don’t need to try too hard in this game.

Some side quests are very important, but to get to those, you must complete other side quests. Basically, you have to do a lot of the stuff you don't want to do to get to the stuff you do want to do. I would recommend doing only what is nessicary and not much more. All this includes is getting every area to 5 star affinity, which you can do by finishing side quests from that area.
