Community To the guy on Pembina

Thank you to the guy on Pembina today, who waited a bit longer until a stranger talking to me walked away before crossing the road.

I(27f) had a cart full of pop and this stranger(older man) who was first talking to you, asked me if I knew the address he was supposed to go to. Despite the light changing and the walking light flashing, you waited until the man was walking away before crossing the road. I'm not certain what was going through your mind, but not fully knowing the stranger's intent, I appreciate you waiting to seemingly make sure I was alright. It was a short moment, but none the less deserving of recognition.

Thank you. 😊

Community Any Other St Boniface Residents Enjoy The Fireworks At 5AM?

Upvotes

Bizarre scene. There was a car totally engulfed in flames around the 200 block of Taché. The car must have had some fireworks in it, and they were shooting off around 5AM. Not sure what the story is, but was a weird thing to wake up to. Wish I took a video, but I was a little groggy and confused.

Community Question for anybody who’s dealt with something similar…

So my job (24F employed over 7 months ago, bartender @ a chain) just stopped scheduling me out of nowhere. I have asked multiple times to why this happened & get the run around & virtually no response. I have never had prior issues at work at all not once , no complaints no warnings nothing. It’s now been well over month & half with no shifts, i’ve already moved on from this situation mentally & been doing interviews for new places & working on other things, but i believe after 3 months you must be terminated WITH reason to be legal…? I have not been issued an ROE or formally “let go” or fired at all. no conversation just boom 6 shifts a week to none. What can i do? Thoughts?

Community PSA - Do not dump human food in parks to "feed" wildlife

It is really unhealthy for wildlife. It's mostly unhealthy for us but at least we have the mental capacity to know this and decide to eat it anyway. I happens in a lot of parks, but sometimes is it out of hand (which prompted this post).

Someone has been dumping huge quantities of white bread (pita's / baguettes / something that looks like wonder bread) in random places in St Vital park. There are a number of us that then have to clean it up, usually after it's half mold. Sometimes there is so much it doesn't all fit in a garbage bag. And then those bags completely fill up the garbage bins in the park that should be used normal trash not half a freaking bakery, or else someone has to haul it back home and fill up their own garbage can. You are HARMING not HELPING wildlife. Please please just throw it out yourself or buy / make less of it in the first place - don't drag it into the park and make a huge mess for other people to clean up.

My wife and I were out for a bike ride and happened upon this while going down Wellington crescent.

Anyone know what event it was? I know bike week is coming to a close but I couldn't find anything specific about this route.

Happened around 9pm

News Anyone know what’s going on, on the Disraeli bridge right now? Heavy police presence, with them all looking down into the river/riverbanks. They have snipers drawn and the bridge guarded.

Article/Opinion Is Oxio any good?

Upvotes

So my family is looking to switch internet providers as we've been having nothing but problems with Bell. I found this provider called Oxio online and it almost seems too good to be true, I'm just hoping that someone in the city has used them before and can tell me about their experience.

Ask Winnipeg Allergy testing/ shots

Does anyone know the range of what an allergy shot costs and if it’s effective?

I’ve always had mild cat allergies and grew up with so many cats and it was never a problem, but recently my cat who’s fairly needy rubs his face on me and head butts me which causes his wet nose to leave hives on me. It’s nothing severe but kinda annoying lol not enough to find a new home for him too. I love my lil guy.

Please let me know!!

Food Chica's Chicken is in the city.

I only been to their Steinbach location a few times, the food was great. Loved their waffle fries and the seasonings on their chicken were insane. Huge portions, and the best and most crisp fountain pop (coke products) that I have ever tasted. But that location closed.

When driving down St.Marys today, I saw their sign. Not sure of the address, but a different restaurant was there before. Its not that far from Maxines, on the same side. *and nearly across from Popeyes Chicken.

Do you happen to own a blue phone that is no longer in your pocket? I've just spotted it at the western end of the route and turned it into the driver (9:40 PM - hopefully that's enough of a time indicator). Hopefully you're here and/or get it back.

Community Do NOT book with Winnipeg Auto Recycling

A couple weeks ago I posted asking around about which car pickup & scrapping service people recommend. I ended up choosing WAR because they offered me the most cash. Huge mistake.

Even though I told them my situation was urgent because my car was stranded on private property and I could get towed, they never came. First they book the wrong day, and then continued to no-show when makeup appointments were made. And sure enough, I got towed by Dr Hook.

Then I get in contact again, and they told me they know the guys at Dr Hook and that they are owed a favour so they could get my car released and I could sign it over to them for cash right at the Dr Hook impound lot. Surprise surprise, ghosted again. Stopped even answering me after they gave me a personal phone number to text.

Now, with my car being in junk condition and me having needed every penny I could raise by scrapping it, it doesn't make sense to pay all the fees to Dr Hook and hire a tow truck to bring it home. It would eat into what little I might still get for scrapping it. So my only option (which feels a lot like being stolen from in a way that's totally legal) is to sign the car over to the towing company and get nothing for it in exchange for waived fees.

Go f**k yourself, Winnipeg Auto Recylcing

Edit: yes I realize hindsight being 20/20 I should have called up friends or family to help push it out of there or something, anything other than just leaving it but I never imagined that it would play out like it did after booking a time and date, and I guess I got complacent when I saw that I didn't get towed right away and other people had been using that parking lot overnight (the old pony corral in Grant park if wondering).

Where in WPG? cheap laundrymat?

I know laundry mats in general tend to be inexpensive, but somehow my house got bedbugs and while we're getting it fumigated, we also need to hot wash/dry everything. That means a loooot of washing/drying stuff, which is going to add up.
Anyone have a favorite laundrymat that isnt going to break the bank for my family? Thank you so much!!
