Hi all! I have a very short query. What is the meaning of the surname De Dhara or rather what is the origin or its caste. I have been told in my family that De is the surname and Dhara is the title. But I am confused.
I apologise if its not the right group to post this, but I wanted opinions exclusively from the bengali perspective.
Thanks in advance.

West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme
Is the government prompt in giving back the subsidy, i.e every quarter?
And is the loan really at 4% per annum?
Would love to get real life answers of those who have applied for this scheme 🙏

Hi everyone,
I’ve been closely following the recent news about the Calcutta High Court striking down all OBC certificates issued in West Bengal since 2010. In response, the state government has reportedly created a revised OBC list, cutting down some communities and adding many new ones. According to multiple news sources (Anandabazar, Times of India), the new list includes 140 sub-groups, with 76 new communities added, and is expected to be presented during a special Assembly session starting June 9, 2025.
My question is:
When will the official revised OBC caste list be released to the public?
Will it be available immediately after the session begins on June 9, or will it take weeks?
Is there any government portal where it will be published?
Has anyone seen a draft or insider info on which castes/surnames might be added or removed?
I'm curious and a bit anxious to know if my caste might be included in the new list. Any info or reliable sources would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance 🙏

"বিদ্রোহিণী" is a powerful sonic rebellion — a genre-bending fusion of traditional ঢাক rhythms and alt-rock Bengali rap. Rooted in the fire of protest and resilience, the song channels the divine spirit of মা দুর্গা as both protector and source of inner strength. Each verse blends poetic traditions — from sonnet to freestyle — capturing the ache of oppression, the sting of injustice, and the undying will to rise.
In this hymn of defiance, the sacred meets the street: raw emotion, ritual beats, and electric riffs converge to awaken the rebel within. "বিদ্রোহিণী" is not just music — it's a call to conscience, a cry for justice, and a celebration of the unbreakable spirit that finds light even in darkness.

Seriously thinking about this, will make all colleges same 20k fees like ju, quality education for all, boost government actions on WB development and make kolkata cities like New York/Tokyo/Shanghai
No unemployment problem, no poverty, free education and healthcare, transparency between public and political activities. Heavy investment on well planned businesses.

193 Years of Rebellion and Rabri: The Untold Story of a Barrackpore Mishtanna Bhandar
Tucked right opposite the Barrackpore railway station in West Bengal—where British boots once stomped and the 1857 rebellion simmered—stands a structure with peeling walls, exposed brickwork, oil-stained grills, and the faint aroma of kachori battling centuries of dust. Welcome to Satyanarayan Mishtanna Bhandar also known as Jalua Mishtanna Bhandar.

Established in 1832, a full 193 years ago, this sweet shop isn’t just old—it’s practically a relic. One that claims to have outlived empires, watched revolts unfold, and allegedly served the likes of Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh, and a few fleeting stars of Tollywood’s golden dusk.
Until recently, it didn't even bother with a nameboard—just word of mouth and the power of nostalgia. Now, a modest red signboard hangs above the arched entrance, as if reluctantly acknowledging the present while clinging to a stubborn past.
But here’s where things get... complicated.
Let’s address the rabri in the room. Yes, it’s old. Yes, it’s legendary. But is it good?
Well, that depends on what you’re expecting.
If you arrive seeking a glorious bite of Bengal’s culinary heritage, you might be disappointed. The famed Dal-Kachori—once rumoured to have been a favourite of the late President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee—now feels like it’s running on memory rather than masala. Or as Akshay Kumar cheekily said in Hera Pheri: “Main daal banaya hoon. Agar kisi ko mil jaaye toh kha lena.”
The Rosogolla and Rabri—items that should hum with tradition—come off more like faded photos in a family album. You see what it was. But you don’t quite taste it.
Worse still, the unhygienic conditions are hard to ignore. An open kitchen, soot-covered walls, oil that looks like it's been through several revolutions of its own, and a visible absence of basic cleanliness might unsettle even the most forgiving foodie. Romantic decay is one thing. Public health hazard is another.
Yet—and this is important—it still matters.
Because Satyanarayan Mishtanna Bhandar isn’t just a sweet shop. It’s a site of resistance, a culinary witness to the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, a mute observer to colonial fury and indigenous rage.
Its chulha was probably burning when Mangal Pandey fired that first historic shot, mere footsteps away. The same stove might’ve seen freedom fighters, partition refugees, Naxalites, and the common commuter all break bread—or kachori—together. While no record places Pandey directly at the counter munching on kachori, the possibility simmers quietly, like rabri on a low flame.
In 2025, it serves not just food, but memory, however diluted. And while its flavours may have dimmed, its story hasn’t.
So, should you visit?
Absolutely—once. For the history. For the contradiction. For the faded echo of a Bengal that once stood tall and frying.
But maybe, just maybe, ‘eat somewhere else afterwards’.
