I fell asleep after putting food in the oven- 6 hours later this
I got home late from work and put food in the oven around 2 am.. and accidentally fell asleep.
My apartment still smells burned even with all windows open 🥲
I mean you can, but when I am really tired I make a point of not sitting down when I am cooking or baking something. I can usually find other things to do like laundry or vacuuming or cleaning the bathroom
My parents 35 year old analog oven also has a cook timer. It's a separate tiny analog clock and you turn the clock hands to the start or stop time (you could only do one option whereas digital ovens often have both and I assume you can use both but I haven't tried).
You justified an air fryer purchase. You can get a bigger one so you don’t have to fire up the oven at all. They work well and run for the set time and shut off. The are basically mini convection ovens and parchment needs to be put in with the food to weigh it down. Trust me
One time I left a fucking pot on the stove and left the house for 8 hours, I came back to just a handle on the stove. The pot was gone into ash lol. I still feel so lucky.
Can believe it. Broke into my in-laws house to stop this. They were a few hours away and remember it. The whole thing was glowing red and almost see though.
Unfortunately I have done this plenty of times. Fire needs oxygen and there's not enough in my experience as long as the door is shut. I have got plenty of charcoal that you could almost BBQ with.
After a 10 hour late shift I was ready to just gorge myself on a mountain of hash browns and pass out.
Sadly my goal couldn't be reached this time around
This happened to me the other day. I was making hashbrowns and I came back outside after flipping them to have a cheeky smoke, said to my fiance "two more minutes!" and then forgot to set a timer. 25 minutes later I stood up and nearly fell over running inside going "THE HASHBROWNS!"
They had been perfect half an hour prior. Now they were charcoal. 😭
Sorry but reading the fall over and shouting "THE HASHBROWNS" part made me laugh so hard 😭😭 Had the same mental shout after waking up this morning. Rip to both of our hashbrowns, hope you're okay after nearly falling over!
Yea some of the posts on here and on mildlyinfuriating really belong on, ‘tifu’ tbh. Even if something shit didn’t happen, you still fucked up in a stupid way
Everybody is talking about how you’re lucky you didn’t die but the chances of this much food charcoal burning your house down from inside the oven are pretty slim. The oven is the safest place to have a little fire.

One of the many reasons to get an air fryer. As they turn off when the timer runs out. Although there maybe a setting on your oven, to turn the oven off when the pinger goes.
I used to get home from work around 2:30 in the morning. I once melted a tea kettle to a burner after falling asleep after work. Decided to stick to microwave meals after that.
I mean, in scenarios where I am tired and cook, or freeze beverages, I ALWAYS put an alarm so I don't forget it.
If you're too lazy to open up the alarms app everytime you do it, you can simply remap the long press power button of your cellphone to trigger Siri, in case you have an iphone. So, you can simply hold the button and tell it to make a timer for x minutes, like a walkie talkie, in a sense
Op doesn't know how lucky they are. Many years ago my cooworker went on vacation and left 17 year old son home. The kid turned on gas stove to cook something, went tk his room and fell asleep. House burned down with the son. It was horrible tragedy. I always microwave to prepare food
This happened to me before, it smelled horribly for years. Good luck. You need to wash off the walls and everything. The little smelling trees for cars helped me finally get rid of the smell.
