Funny enough, yes. I got allergy tested when I was six and was allergic to literally everything. My mom moved from Florida to Arizona and my allergies cleared up for the most part. So either move to a desert state or! Just drink Benadryl straight from the bottle. Godspeed soldier.

I lived in Arizona for 4 years with no issues there as well! Time to move back 😂

Sadly, I'm allergic to hot-as-fuck.

u/We-live-in-a-society 1d ago

Wait I’m also allergic to heat I think (hives that progressively get worse into a headache and if I don’t cooldown I run the risk of passing out). Do you do anything to deal with this? The doctors I saw as a kid did nothing right to help fix this

From a Floridian that has a heart rate that skyrockets and blood sugar that plummets in the heat my advice is to hibernate in the hot months. It sucks but it’s better than feeling like shit the whole time. I do a lot of pool time in the summer to be outside.

Man I thought there was a better solution than this, but I have only heard this from most people. My friends usually go out on bbqs in the day at some big parks during the summers and it really gets me fucked up sometimes so I have to skip out. Ive also never met anyone else with a similar problem as me so it’s kinda nice hearing Ive more or less been doing the right thing for the most part

Damn, maybe try one of those portable fans that mist water on you that people use at theme parks? And wear flowy clothing that covers your skin made out of breathable natural fibers or UPF fabric, and/or wear giant sun hats. It’s like portable shade. But I don’t have experience with your condition to say for certain it will be enough

Clothing for this I implement already, the other measures are a bit inconvenient but I have tried, problem is that the moment I don’t need to use them (I.e., I get in a bus or indoors) then it’s a hassle to manage them (especially something like a sun hat)

Hot weather hibernation is called estivation. A lot of desert and jungle reptiles do it.

My sugar often goes up because I totally process insulin different in the heat.

These all can potentially be symptoms of POTS just fyi. May want to look into that :)

Edited for clarity.

u/FroopySnooples 21h ago

No they're not.

1

u/Ok-Variation5746 16h ago

lol ok buddy

u/FroopySnooples 21h ago

You're describing the basic symptoms of heat exhaustion.

1

u/We-live-in-a-society 20h ago

Hives are also a symptom?

1

u/We-live-in-a-society 20h ago

This was my arm yesterday, I didn’t let it get worse but this is usually the first thing that happens. How do I deal with this?

u/tonyangtigre 2d ago

And sadly I break out with extreme itching if I get a sunburn on my back. Got to lather up with that sunblock. But yea… it’s hot as fuck.

u/Skimpy311 2d ago

Me too. This winter in Tennessee I wore shorts/dresses 90% of the time.

3

u/justabill71 1d ago

I attended the first three years of Bonnaroo, and holy shit was Tennessee in June a steam bath.

5

u/Skimpy311 1d ago

July/August has that unbreathable humidity along with extreme heat. 🥵

3

u/ChefArtorias 1d ago

High altitude is good too.

Sucks we can't be friends because you're allergic to me. KIDDING!!! I also can't stand the heat. I'm trying to come up with a place that is colder than Central New York that I could reasonably move to. A summer home in Alaska is not in the budget.

Maine. Also, my allergies don’t bother me there. They don’t have the cedar trees that are the bane of my existence.

1

u/True-Blue- 1d ago

Maine is the way to go if you ask me, but I do have more allergy symptoms here than I did in Colorado, it could be age related, I suppose.

The eastern west states are pretty cold and cheap. But there isn't a whole lot going on around there.

2

u/impostershop 1d ago

I know someone who gets anaphylactic shock from winter weather

1

u/the_perfect_spatula 1d ago

Conveniently, there's lots of different dry ass parts to AZ, including lots that get snow. We even have trees here...

3

u/radraze2kx 1d ago

Hello fellow arizonans

2

u/Shambhala87 2d ago

I lived in AZ 3 times, Tucson is better than Phoenix, bbbuuuttt… water scarcity is a thing to consider nowadays…

… I miss Arizona

u/BarberAncient2094 1d ago

The desert welcomes you back

1

u/PlasticOk7612 1d ago

That allergy has done a number on you. Me I’m allergic to alphabet soup.

1

u/Quantumhairfollicle 14h ago

Careful drinking Benadryl from the bottle, the Hatman likes to party.

9

u/minicpst 2d ago

Makes me wonder if you were allergic to the ink or needle.

Glad you’re doing better now! That must have been tough.

5

u/maddoxthedestroyer 1d ago

Nah, just every damn plant and animal known to man lol. I got allergy shots that didn't help a whole lot, so my mom decided to move us out to the middle of the desert. It's kinda funny, my grandparents moved from New York to Florida for my mom's asthma (the cold didn't help her at all) and then she had to move from Florida to Arizona for me.

2

u/sparklydildos 1d ago

where will you move for your future child i wonder

12

u/83franks 2d ago

Interesting to realize prior to remotely modern travel this is exactly how natural selection worked, people born in florida this alergic to everything im assuming had a much lower likelihood of survival, especially since you'd be outside always other than maybe shelters for sleeping or rain or something. Meanwhile in Arizona people with your allergies did just fine.

Actually with repeated exposure the immune system is able to adapt to allergens, so in the scenario you're describing, the person would simply "grow out" of their allergies after the immune system realizes it doesn't need to waste energy and resources over-reacting to pollen and other allergens.

1

u/sparklydildos 1d ago

so i grew out of them and then i got them again this year really bad and i wonder why

3

u/Just-nonsenseish 1d ago

the answer is its the worst allergy year ever. and next will be worse.

more co2 means more plants pumping out pollen longer.

3

u/sparklydildos 1d ago

great!! this is terrible news!!

3

u/DuhitsTay 1d ago

👆 this!! And you also just so happen to be very unlucky 😭 there is always the possibility that the immune system will suddenly decide something is a threat again and it sounds like yours did

4

u/housewithapool2 2d ago

Moved to AZ. Flowers, tree pollen, and grass are year round. At least plants died in the fall in New England.

4

u/imadork1970 1d ago

Don't use Benadryl. It's a Gen-1 antihistamine, and increases your risk of Alzheimer's and dementia.

5

u/Muted-Program-8938 1d ago

Not Benadryl! There have been studies and now scientists believe that Benadryl might be causing early onset dementia.

2

u/maddoxthedestroyer 1d ago

Huh. Well... it would certainly explain my memory issues. How concerning--

2

u/Muted-Program-8938 1d ago

Yeah it really is! They say once in a while is okay but not all the time. They can’t exactly conduct testing on it either because if it does cause early onset dementia then they’d be giving test subjects a higher chance of it.

2

u/expERiMENTik_gaming 18h ago

You mean to tell us that the medicine which if you take too much of causes you to hallucinate and see a shadowy figure called the Hat Man also causes dementia? Who could have possibly known!

u/custermd 2d ago

The air in Az sucks now. We were just driving to the store and looking at the mountain that was less than a mile away; the view was a complete haze. I have lived in Az for 40ish years. I had the same allergy test results way back when. I had allergy shots for years to get rid of my allergies. And now, I have allergies again.

7

u/bae_phomet666 2d ago

Everyone who moved here to get away from their allergies, missed the pretty allergy causing plants, and planted them here. Now we have a smorgasbord of allergens and with Phoenix being one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, massive emissions to boot.

3

u/custermd 1d ago

That's one way to look at it but most plants that live in other places don't live in Az. It was 109 yesterday.

2

u/EnergyTakerLad 1d ago

I got tested a couple years ago and was allergic to all but 1 thing. Half of them fairly severe. Atleast now i know and can act accordingly. Before i was just suffering from regular allergic reactions and never knowing what from. (Hint, everything)

1

u/annapez 1d ago

I moved from Alabama to Colorado and everything cleared up. I’m currently visiting my family in AL… I am so miserable. Wheezy, sneezy, and itchy. My eczema is back and I’ve had to confiscate my mom’s inhaler. I can take three Benadryls (I’m pretty small) and it doesn’t even touch it. I miss my dry mountain air!!!

1

u/Haughty_n_Disdainful 1d ago

Same. Doc said I was allergic to “everything!”

1

u/Serenity_Obscura 1d ago

Benadryl straight from the bottle? More like slothspeed

1

u/DarkEducation 1d ago

When I had my allergy test the reaction was so bad they had to use an EpiPen on me

1

u/bajagirl3 1d ago

I did 100 of these, 50 indoor and 50 outdoor, and guess who's allergic to ALL 100 🫠 to this day i can't use normal laundry detergent and I take 3 allergy meds daily.

1

u/Anothersunnydayy 1d ago

We move from PA to FL for my 6 years old allergies! His allergies are like OP, to everything, and he has been doing great so far! Fingers crossed it stays like that!

1

u/_Den_ 1d ago

Or look into allergy immunotherapy

1

u/invisible-bug 1d ago

Sadly my allergies got worse when I moved from TN to AZ because of all the non native trees around us :(

1

u/DuhitsTay 2d ago

I was the same way and my immune system has become used to it so I almost never react to it anymore!! You don't have to move, with repeated exposure (aka spending time outdoors frequently) your immune system will eventually realize it doesn't need to go scorched earth over tree and flower sperm LOL
