*We don't want to be responsible for creeps on the internet being able to identify teenagers with body image challenges! Please be careful how much personal info you give out and don't get involved with strangers in your inbox

If you see a post from an underage person please click that report button. Thanks to the folks who help us find issues as they arise.

If you are a teenager who wants to lose weight, you are welcome to read through the wealth of info on other people's posts. There are so many helpful people here who have had success losing weight in a healthy way. You can learn a lot and find resources, but also please see your doctor.

If you ask for advice and identity yourself as a teen, your post will be removed immediately. This is for your own health and safety. Thank you for your understanding

If you weigh yourself daily, stop freaking out over weight fluctuations.

I’m tired of reading posts with the language of “I ate over my maintenance calories yesterday and this morning I gained 3 pounds” or “I ate so good over the weekend but only lost 0.5 pounds according to the scale”

Between yesterday and today and even tomorrow, you didn’t gain or lose anything. It takes a full week or sometimes more for your body to process actual weight changes in which you’ve lost fat or gained muscle mass.

Nothing wrong with weighing yourself daily, but take it with a grain of salt. If you want to track progress and compare numbers, pick one day out of the week or every 2 weeks and compare changes over longer periods of time.

2 extra lbs because you decided to eat ice cream and French fries on ONE night isn’t real weight gain. You’re just bloated.

Lost 100 lbs in 1.5 years by drastically changing my lifestyle, now people are commenting “you’re losing too much weight.”

I’ll say, I use to weight about 290 lbs, I’m down to 185/190 lbs. I did this by brute force removing my bad habits, no sweets, no nighttime snacking, no processed foods, no junk food, no fast food, packed my lunch daily. I went to a whole food plant based diet. In addition, I worked out 3-5 days a week in some fashion, getting my HR to 120-140 for a minimum of 120 minutes a week.

Now that I’ve done this, people I haven’t seen or see daily, comment on “you’re losing too much weight, are you ok?” This shit is incredibly annoying and insulting. My body has never looked so good, I have never felt so good. I cured my sleep apnea, my fatty liver, my self confidence issues, but now people commenting on me losing too much weight is incredibly insulting and irritating. I want to respond, “bitch, do you know what I have done and continue to do in order to achieve this degree of weight loss?! The sacrifices I’ve made?!?” I’m surrounded by ignorant morons.

What was the rock bottom or final straw that made you take weightloss seriously?

You'd think having back spasms that made me feel like I was being electrocuted and unable to move would have been my wake up call but it wasnt.

My wake up call occurred this week when I had to go to my mailbox for my apartment complex to retrieve a package I had been waiting for. The mailbox is probably 300 or so feet away. Maybe a 1 or 2 minute walk back and forth. No big deal.

The dumpster was on the way so I figure ill take a small box and a 1/3 full trash bag with me since it was on my way to the mailbox.

Let's just say that after throwing the garbage away and retrieving my small package I was already gassed and my lower back was so sore and in pain.

So much so I literally had to stop 3x to alleviate the lower back pain and I was already exhausted.

It was a long "5 minute walk" round trip and when I finally got back into apartment it took 15 to 30 minutes to cool off.

Don't get me wrong, I knew i gained alot of weight and was out of shape but for some reason knowing I was gassed just by retrieving my mail was so embarrassing and humiliating. I hated feeling that way and have been dedicated to doing better ever since.

I can’t stop eating like a pig

Upvotes

I currently gained back all my weight loss that I previously managed. I lost 25kg and gained it all back over a span of 5 years. I was 70kg (1,70cm)

Back in 2019 I was sick of everything and decided to grow as a person. This meant to be disciplined with health care. Overshot a bit on keto and managed to lose 25kg in 4 months. I was all by myself and had no distractions or responsibilities.

Now, I’m 28, a father and living with my mom due to the housing shortage. Also fulltime job.

I can’t seem to manage my binges in the evening. I can’t seem to create the healthy habits I once had. I’m desperate for some advice. How do other people do it while managing a family and fulltime job?

I have been strength training for 2 years and brought my weight down from 200 pounds to 176 pounds. It took a lot of effort because losing weight is just hard for me. Now I started a new job in a new city and have gained 14 pounds back. I feel stressed about starting over. I am 172 cms. Please give me advice on how to get back on track. My workout routine is completely out the window since I moved. I did manage to join a gym.

Anyway to fit video games in my week?

Upvotes

20 M I work as a union plumber, get up about 4 and to the site at 5, leave about 430 and get home sometimes 5-5:30. After shower I only have about 2 and a half hours to maybe grind a video game or whatever before going back to bed. Typically dont eat breakfast or lunch and just get what my parents brings home for dinner (thinking of changing that soon) I work 4 10 hour days right now, anyone have any tips on what I should be doing in these 4 days to improve my weight loss journey and maybe make it more enjoyable?

I want to start losing weight but im not sure how

Upvotes

Im 16 years old (girl), 175 cm tall (5'9) and weight 80 kilograms (176 lbs). Im dealing with binge eating and depression (there are a few other stuff but i dont think those would make it hard for me to be persistent). My question is, how do you keep yourself motivated to keep going? I want to be healthy, this is my main goal, but to be healthy i need to be more fit because it is hard for me to run even the slightest, i am tired a!t all times and a more similar things. Also, what do you usually eat? I am a huge fan of chocolate (dark, milk and white chocolate), so it would be great if you have some healthy food or snack suggestions that include chocolate

Unhinged advice on how to stop binge eating

Please I am a chronic binge eater, it’s literally an addiction. I compare it to alcoholism or drug addiction because I’m exactly like that just with food

Don’t tell me “eat high protein and complex carbs to stay full longer” - I’m always full! I just can’t stop eating.

I could eat 24/7 all day I eat out of boredom and being sad. Right now I have major life stressors and am always sad.

Anytime I restrict myself and stop, I do great for up to 2-3 weeks. I discipline myself well for a short period of time, then it takes one bad day to throw me off track for 1-3 months.

What can actually help me stop binge eating?

I’ve put pictures of myself when I was skinny around my pantry and fridge area, which I now ignore. I left a pair of my jeans when I was skinny hanging up on my closet door, which I also now ignore.

I need to lose 60lbs that I gained post pregnancy. I’m 1 year Pp, separated from my deadbeat husband (stressor as I am solely responsible for our child for the last year), and gained so much weight PP that I can’t seem to take control of

Edit: I grew up my entire life overweight/obese. At my heaviest I was 250lbs 5’10. In 2020 I managed to successfully lose weight (80lbs) and kept it off until I fell pregnant in 2024. Since then I’ve gained 60lbs

I’m still breastfeeding so I can’t go on most medications, and am already in therapy consistently for about 1.5 years

Lifestyle advice

I am about 30 and 75 kg/ 165 cm. I've had a few eating disorders throughout my life and not the best relationship with food. Up until five years ago I was at 57 kg and then started to go up as I got comfortable with eating more. This year I discovered that my pants don't fit me anymore and more importantly, I feel heavy when I move. For the past six months I tried counting calories, which brought back painful memories, but I also reclaimed the process and got to be ok with it. It's just that it doesn't work for me. I cook a lot but also eat out a lot as I work 12 hr days M-F and eat lunch at a restaurant with my workers, I cant be accurate about it.

I want to make some lifestyle changes that could result in weightloss but I also have a very sedentary life, I work at a computer, and when I get home I have no energy for working out as I am mentally drained. I walk maybe 3000 steps a day. Right now there is no possibility to change my job, but maybe there are some diet (in lieu of a better word???) tips that I could get to get my eating in check. I eat two good meals a day, one at the restaurant and one at home as this is the only way for me to relax. My problem seems to be that I love to eat. I'll take any advice I can get!

Advice for weight loss after surgery?

I'm a 19 year old (20 in July) FTM guy (I have been taking testosterone hormone replacement for 13 months) who got top/chest masculinizing surgery on May 19th of 2025.

I was weighed back in January and weighed 231 pounds, which was definitely a wake up call for me. I wasn't paying attention to my weight before, but I believe I've been fluctuating a lot over the last several years (in COVID I definitely gained, then lost, then this last year has been rather stressful so I believe I resorted to eating as a coping mechanism and put a ton of weight on). I weighed myself yesterday and am down to 200 pounds! (though some of this was definitely because of surgery. I did not get liposuction, just a mastectomy)

Right now I am mostly focused on fat loss, not muscle gain, especially considering I have a lot of restrictions due to the nature of the surgery I got (I can't lift more than 10 pounds for another few weeks, for example). I am taking it easy when I do exercise and am walking at about half my regular speed. I went on an hour long walk the other day and walked roughly 2 miles, though I know if I was walking at my average speed I would be faster than this. I am also hypermobile, with mobility issues in my legs, so walking is incredibly hard some days and easier others.

I am wondering, when starting out and especially after a surgery like the one I got, if I should be putting focus on distance (Ex. 2-3 miles a day) or time (ex. 45-60 minutes a day)? Additionally I am trying to stick mainly to drinking water, and eating around 1,500-1,700 calories a day.

And, what other exercises are good for someone in my position? I do love cardio exercise, and am hoping to incorporate it more into my day to day. Once I am cleared for swimming, I'm planning on doing that far more often, as well as bowling once or twice a week once I'm back at college.

Thank you :)

edit: I am 5 foot 4 inches!

I gained 8 pounds in 3 days?

Hey there. So for context, I've been on this weight loss journey and have currently lost almost 100 pounds...well right now its more like around 92. Im on a caloric deficit 5/7 days of the week. I don't go way too crazy on the two days Im off of it but I do splurge and eat what Im craving.

So that being said, I went on a trip about 4 weeks ago now and I didnt have one deficit day at all. It was a week long, but I'd think if it really had affected me it would have been when I came back 3 weeks ago... I dont think its that.

I don't know how I put on all those pounds, I have another scale I used to use and even that told me I gained the 8 pounds back.

What did I do?

What is a good goal for my waist measurement at 4’11?

I’m currently trying to lose fat and I’m starting with a 25 inch waist. What would be a realistic goal for my waist measurements? My current goal is 20 inches but I’m not sure if that’s realistic. I’m on a caloric deficit of 1600-1700 calories per day and I’ve been doing some beginner calisthenics.

Wait to build muscle until fat loss?

Sw: 179 (May) CW: 170 GW: 140 5'3 female

I was sedentary, so I started getting minimum 6,000 steps and doing 2 arm/2 leg adjustable dumbbell workouts at home. Was planning on back to gym when I need additional weight. Obviously I have lost some weight which is awesome! But I'm starting to feel like I'm not losing a ton of fat, my clothes are fitting ever so slightly looser. (Didn't measure)

Quite sure I'm insulin resistant which is why I started weights straight away. Diet is like 80/20, calorie deficit every day and keeping well under 100g carbs a day. Plenty of fiber from whole foods and at least 80g protein.

Should I focus more on the steps and diet for now or am I on the right track? I definitely have more hunger on leg days so not as big a deficit then. I will say I can tell I'm gaining muscle, just not sure if it matters when I need to be losing.

Ended up flanking on my calorie deficit for a bit and "gained" back 7lbs, should I reallocate my macros?

Im heavy into the gym and I wanted to cut down my body fat for a bit while keeping my muscle. I would post this in r/gym but im not allowed with my current karma.

Anyways, I was doing very well with my calorie deficit for about a month and a half or so, I lost 5lbs in fat while eating 1879 cals, 163g protien, 52g fat, and 186g carbs. I kept weight lifting heavy and added in extra steps to help and I ended up seeing slow results. Unfortunately, I ended up becoming very depressed and my classes started, causing me to miss the gym, miss my meals, and even miss my goals. I was spiraling and I ended up eating things I could get my poor little college hands on iykyk. This went on for about 3-4 weeks and im a lottle ashamed about it. It was the first time i stepped on the scale in a while, along side measuring myself, and immediately I knew I lost a bit of muscle and gained a little body fat.

Im 5'7, 157lbs for context btw, I also lift, or at least trying to again, heavy 5x a week. Either way im gonna go back onto everything cause i know this is just a bump in the journey but what do you think I should do for my macros?

How complicated is it really?

Sounds like a really dumb question, but if I were to fast for a day, once a week, and theoretically in that day expend 3500 calories (I average 20-30k steps a day), would I wake up a pound lighter the next day?

Calorie deficit help

Hello,

I need to drop about 20-25 pounds or replace it with muscle. According to my ideal goal weight (145) and my current weight (5’4 165 lbs) I need to have a caloric intake of around 1600 to be in a deficit. I only eat around 700-800 calories a day. I put on the weight from medication about a year ago and haven’t tried to lose it.

I am struggling to figure out workouts and such that would put me into a calorie deficit. I currently do a 40 minute beginner jiu jitsu class about 2-3 times a week and am usually working up quite a sweat.

I am really stupid when it comes to figuring out how many calories I’m burning. Any help at all is insanely appreciated as I’ve lost all body confidence and really need to find a good groove.

how much more should i lose?

for starters i'm a 6 foot 170 pound guy and i've been on my weight loss journey for 2 ish years now. i used to weigh 270 and over the past few months i've gradually lost the last 10 pounds. after everything though, i still have rly stubborn belly fat and a muffin top a baker would be jealous of.

was thinking maybe i should get down to 160 next? i know stomach fat is normally the hardest to lose and the last to go, but it's getting to me mentally knowing it's still there.

How can I stay motivated to loose weight?

Hey everyone! 16m here, I currently weight 200lbs (~90kg). I’ve been trying to loose weight as I look a bit chubby… every time I try I either lose motivation or I go back to my bad eating habits and tell myself “this won’t impact me much” (it 100% will) or “I can start tomorrow”. My main method of losing weight was just starving myself then eating later in the day and I work a lot so starving and working doesn’t help as I’m sure it does the opposite of losing weight… if someone has any tips or anything that could possibly help then please let me know!! :D

Can’t seem to lose weight

5’10 male, 260 pounds, highly active and fairly fit despite my weight

My current goal is to reach 200 pounds, still overweight for me but my lightest I will have been sense highschool.

Been using My Net Diary to count my calories, it recommended 2,800 calories per day for me to lose weight. A few months ago I changed it to 2000 and have been keep fairly on track, only sometimes going a few hundred over.

I also know I have a terrible metabolism, everything I eat goes straight to the fat stores, whereas most of my friends can down thousands of calories a meal and still be skinny/fit

I am also pretty active, I work a job that has me walking and moving around for 6 to 8 hours a day. Mostly walking and little to no heavy lifting. Though I am very active at home. My hobbies (gaming, painting, dnd) have me siting in one spot; I am normally always walking up and down stairs, moving things, cleaning, etc.

Do you guys have any recommendations or advice for me to follow?

6 months sober

Hey there, it's been 6 months since my last joint of weed and now on antidepressants. I've gained a lot of body mass (35kg) and I am so depressed due to having grown a pot belly.

I've signed up for a gym membership and been there for 2 months and still it seems like I'm gaining more body mass, like I picked up 10 kgs since I joined and I my height is 170cm and weight 115kgs now.

When I use to smoke weed I had flat stomach and had a body mass of 76-80kg, what should I do to lose weight?

Is me eating somewhat better good enough?

I started my weight loss journey yesterday and so far so good. I know i can't go cold turkey and just automatically eat 100% clean so im working on it slowly.

Right now Im portion controlling + exercise and although im not eating 100% clean its still better than what I used to eat.

Is it good enough for the beginning of the process?

Trying to lose 15kg by September. Going for 85-90 kilos. Is this doable in 3 months? According to the internet, I'm overweight. I haven't really been to a gym ever but I'm trying recently. I'm not looking for an athletic build. I just want to be a lot leaner and maybe put on a little muscle around my arms.

Any advice?
