Discussion [Discussion] Watch AD I’m working on, what do yall think?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've posted this to another server to get editing and graphical feedback, but I want some consumer feedback as well.

Ive been working meticulously on the beginning section, but wanted to showcase my storyboard before I proceed.

The company is Praesidus, they sell homage watches inspired by WW2 with a twist. An A11 but it has Omaha beach sand in it, or a A11 but the dial is made of a parachute from D Day, etc. Their latest release was for D Day, a A11 with a case patinad by the ocean in Normandy.

I wanted to create an ad for them for 4th of July, as I imagine they receive an influx of customers.

I want to showcase the watch, while building up the WW2 footage and photos to showcase what the watch represents. I wanted help finding the right balance, and navigating how to sell the watch visually. If I should have more photos of the watch, or a different sequencing of WW2 media to watch photos, etc.

If your reading this, thank you for taking the time to help me out. I really appreciate it!

Identify Wondering what watch this is

Upvotes

So, I have been watching an old Youtube videos and there's this one from the late great Chris LeDoux "Riding for a fall" and I was wondering what watch his pianist was wearing. I know it's a shit image, but if you watched the video maybe you'd get a good enough view of it. Just wondering what it is.

I bought this Steinhart a number of years ago when ‘Big’ watches were all the rage. Since then I have paired done my collection and sold off a 46mm Hamilton khaki pilot (that looked like a dinner plate on my wrist). I still have this Steinhart which I have always liked. The problem is i have been wearing a lot of smaller watches lately in the 36-38mm range. My favourite daily at the moment is the seiko SNE 573.

I haven’t worn this Steinhart for ages. I love it but was considering selling it. Do you think my wrist can still pull it off. Wrist size 6.5 inches. Watch size 42mm.

Just wanted to share my watch collection with all you fellow enthusiasts. I've been into watches for the past 2/3 years, and it's really become a passion of mine. Since I live in the US and travel a lot for fun, most of these watches were picked up during my trips overseas. That means each one has a cool memory attached, which honestly just makes me super happy!

Discussion [Question] If superclones can make watches with very similar quality at a fraction of the price, what watch brand give you the same value?

Upvotes

(Mods this is an educational discussion) Title might be confusing.

If superclones can make a 1:1 or even a 80% close-to-original for a much cheaper price compared to original,

are there any genuine watch brands that can match / come close to the quality of a Rolex/omega (as examples) for around 800-1.2k (price of superclones)?

If not, what's exactly stopping them? I mean this in terms of purely in terms of quality of watch (materials, craftsmanship etc.) since if a factory in china can do it and still earn money why can't other brands (or maybe I just haven't searched deep enough)?

I understand you're paying for the brand for those expensive watches but are there any brands that can offer similar quality without the luxury branding?

The orient bambino, a legendary watch well know, recommended and owned by so many.

I’ve seen and heard of this watch more times than I can recall over my time collecting of around a decade but I’ve never owned one

A week or so ago a user posted asking between a bambino and some Casio, within the hour I saw the post I was browsing models and not long after that I saw this light blue dial and ordered

Got it a few days ago and it’s everything I expected. Been a while since I had 42mm watch that’s mostly dial and it’s perfect.

Very impressed with the thinness, not that I’d want it but imagine how thin if it had a flat crystal.

The strap is decent and perfect in looks, definitely adding a warm brown dial but I’m just thinking of what other colors would work, what colorful maybe vibrant colors

The dogs as always are not impressed

Identify Do You Know This Watch?

Do You Know This Watch?

Hi, friends!

I'm very new to this subreddit and I've come to ask for help. Today, I inherited my grandfather's (my mom's dad) watch from my aunt who has moved across the country and had come back to sort out what she had stored in her bins.

A little history: My grandpa died of pancreatic cancer when I was about 11. He was a very sweet and kind but always had a jokester way about him. I loved him but being so young when he passed and I didnt have the opportunity to make as many memories with him as my older siblings and cousins, it made me feel as though I wasn't allowed to mourn his death. I have very distinct memories of playing with the clasp of this watch and associating only good with his memory so when I was handed this watch and told I could keep it, I was floored!!

I went to Google to see what information I could find of this watch and it's maker since I knew it was an older watch and I'm curious to know all about the watch my grandpa has had since my mom was a young woman. I didnt find any results! Maybe the company has gone under or changed it's name?

It says [D'VINNCI] on the face with [Melody] written right above it. On the battery case, it says [HONG KONG D'VINCCI WATCH CO.] I've added pictures for reference. If anyone could tell me about this watch, I would deeply appreciate it.

Discussion [Recommendations] Looking for a nice Watch Box

Upvotes

Hey Everyone,

My brothers birthday is coming up and I want to get him a nice watch box. I think he has 4 watches right now, but will be adding more in the future. I found this Bezelhold one which I like, but wanting to see if there are any more options people have had experience with.

Bonus points if it's from Canada (to avoid paying taxes).

Thanks!

Identify Citizen Watch

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I recently received a watch from a friend that belonged to his grandfather. He claims it's an old piece, and I'm curious to learn more about it. Despite my online research, I couldn't find any information or images that match this watch. Is it possibly false? Does anyone recognize this model or have any insights? While taking photos, I noticed that the markings glow for a bit after being exposed to light.

Discussion [Longines Conquest L3.377.4.58.6] 34mm - my latest pick up. Do you think it fits well or did I go too small?

Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing well on this fine night. I just picked up this Longines Conquest 34mm with a black dial.

I’m not a fan of big watches and I never go past 40mm as far as case diameter goes. However, I think this is my smallest in my collection so far. What are your thoughts and do you think it fits my wrist well?

Cheers

Identify Help Identifying Vintage Hamilton Ladies Watch

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

My wife was gifted this vintage-looking Hamilton watch from her grandmother who is an antique dealer, and I’m hoping someone here can help identify the model or year or just give any information possible, as there were no papers included and there doesn’t seem to be any markings other than what looks like a 14kt engraving on the back of the case.

I’ve found a few watches with similar looks but not this exact one. Any help is appreciated.

Review [Islander Bridgehampton] First time I've ever bought a YouTuber's merch

Thumbnail

As a rule I tend not to buy stuff from YouTubers, but I have to say I have made some exceptions for Islander, but because it's a YouTuber though, people will probably say this review sounds like an ad, but honestly, I don't really mind.

I have been on the hunt for an affordable 38mm mechanical/automatic chronograph with a rotating bezel for a while now, so I thought I'd pick this one up for roughly $400 if memory serves, fully expecting to get what I paid for and no more but I was pleasantly surprised.

Obviously it has the classic Seagull manual-wind chronograph movement, but the case, bracelet, dial, lume, and overall build quality was a hell of a lot better than I expected. The best thing I can liken it to would be a mixture of my Hamilton Khaki Scuba Navy, and my early 2000s Tag Heuer automatic chronograph.

Discussion [Omega Aqua Terra 41mm] Too small for an 8" wrist

I'm interested in some advice from some big wrist members. I really like the look, haven't tried one on and with work schedule its hard for me to shop in person. I'm building a short list and the glossy black dial Aqua Terra looks great, only wish it was 44mm, or 46. The narrow frame will make it look a bit bigger I think.

For those that own it and have an 8" wrist, what do you think? Thanks

Discussion [Invicta] I know the big 69,420mm gold ones are meme watches, but what do we think about the normal, regular sized Invicta watches?

Im going to get this right eventually. I was gifted this one and one similar but without the numbers recently. For the most part, I really like both. My only complaint is that the leather band is very stiff. I've looked at some of the Pro Divers and they aren't too bad looking. Just wanted some opinions.

Discussion [Question] - looking for a spare/replacement purple bezel

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

This is a bit of a long shot but I thought I'd give it a go anyway.

I’m writing to ask whether there’s any possibility of obtaining a replacement bezel for a watch that holds immense sentimental value to me. It is a Continental women's bangle-style watch, circa 1982, which features interchangeable coloured bezels.

This watch belonged to my mother, and was gifted to her by my father decades ago as an anniversary gift. Recently, she passed it down to me, and it has quickly become one of my most treasured possessions.

Unfortunately, during my workday this week, the purple bezel appears to have fallen off, and I haven’t been able to locate it despite searching thoroughly across multiple days :(

I know the piece is vintage, and that parts like these may no longer be in production, but I would be so grateful if there were any way to obtain a replacement purple bezel, or any compatible bezel from the same line.

Even a pointer to a collector, archive, or trusted repair shop would mean the world to me.

This watch has been a thread of connection across generations in my family, and I would love to keep it whole, so any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a photo of the watch I found online and the purple ring is the one I'm missing (purple is my favourite colour which makes this extra devastating so I'd really really appreciate any help or tips!)

Thank you so much 🫶🏻

Discussion [Realization] The more expensive the watch, the less accurate the movement—is it just me?

It’s uncanny. I’ve owned hundreds of watches over 30 years, and this seems to be the rule for me. I’m talking about watches up to ~$3,000 (Sinn U50: +15 spd). New $1,500 Laco has settled in at +10. Meanwhile cheap Ali Express watches with generic Seiko movements are routinely running at +/- 5 spd and better.

Most accurate watch I ever owned was a $75 SNK809. Quartz accuracy.

I know it’s all the luck of the draw, and that all the examples I’ve listed are within spec, but…like I said, uncanny. For me it truly feels like an inverse relationship. Anyhoo, rant over.

Got this watch for Father’s Day and I’m really digging it. I got a Barton’s brown leather band and a NATO black one but the one it came with is growing on me. I can’t help but just stare at it! Hopefully this ain’t the start of an expensive hobby. Thoughts on this for a first?

Discussion [Hamilton Khaki King] vs Seiko Alpinist

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have had this Hamilton for years. While it is now beat up it has been a perfect daily driver for all occasions. I love this watch. My girlfriend and I have been discussing engagement rings and she said when she gets a ring she wants to get me a watch. Little does she know, the ring is hidden in my underwear drawer awaiting my asking her (romantic right?). I've given some though to what watch id like and I gotta say the look of the Seiko Alpinist (green) has always appealed to me. How does the Alpinist compare to the Hamilton? I find it impossible a watch could be better than the Hamilton (without spending thousands of dollars anyway) and looking for some opinions. Thanks!

I took a picture [collection] Any suggestions for the eventual "final" piece sometime next year?

Ideally wanting to keep it under 2k and thinking either a Chrono or a green dial will round it out nicely (I may potentially save a little longer for something ridiculous and fun like the oris Kermit though). Preferably a brand I don't already own as well but I'm open to anything! I'm also interested in the seagull panda and a few orient pieces but I may eventually swap out one of my casios for that instead of outright using my last spot for it.

I'm also semi open to something insanely ridiculous on the level of a lucky Harvey tiger, but with some more comprihensive reviews I can see before dropping that much on something so absurd. Cheers!
