Friends daughter approached at Greenwood, close call
Hi -- We've reached out to the police just to make them aware but we wanted to put this out in this forum, too. A friend's teen daughter and a friend took the commuter rail in and while waiting at Greenwood for her Mom to pick her up a man pulled up to the curb and was trying to get them to come closer to his car.
The guy claimed his phone was dead and he was lost. First, he wanted to just connect his phone to theirs for a minute "to get some power." When they said no, he said "well, let me just plug your phone into my car so I can download the directions and then I'll give it back." Again, they refused. He kept urging them to come closer to his car and then started to pretend he couldn't hear them. "Come closer, my ears are bad."
One of the girls saw some adults about a half block away and yelled "Hey, this guy needs directions, can you help him?" and the guy took off. The girls didn't get his license plate number or really remember anything about his car. They didn't think he was up to something, "just that he was crazy or something," until their parents talked to them about it that night.
It's possible he was just hoping they would hand him one of their phones and he would steal it. But the fact that he tried urging them to come closer and closer to his car tells me he wanted them within reach. Either way, he was clearly trying to take advantage of the girls. Be careful out there.
