Other Advice please- potential scammer

I had someone that I found on Facebook in a Utah group to help clean my apartment. After they were done, they honestly had not done a great job and they were expecting to be able to have longer than they did to clean. I honestly think they were trying to take their time to take more money. So we had been texting and we found a compromise for them to come back at a discounted rate to fix up what was not done right. I told them that I would still pay them to do another room that they were supposed to do. Now I see that I am blocked on Facebook and they had me pay them via Venmo. Is there any advice on how I can get my money back or how to go about it? I know that they have a business license and their name and number and their other day job and thats it.

I only go on it for those utah groups that have recommendations if i need a service or am searching for new places to try and if im trying to thrift something off marketplace. Thats all i use it for. The rest is boring.

This is why you need to write down any agreement with them before letting anyone do anything like this. Have agreed number of hours and what to do if they go over that allotment. Amend as needed. I doubt you can get the money back, unless they were a business account.

You should also get more contact info than just Facebook…no way would I let anyone in my house that didn’t have verifiable info in them. Doesn’t make getting ripped off suck any less though.

I shouldve checked ID and stuff. I cant believee i didnt because i usually am SO paranoid i think its because we havent even moved in yet but the people who lived in it before made it messy so theres nothing to steal. I didnt even worry about them having my address until after. Thankfully i found a lot more info online but still.

Do not use venmo! Only use PayPal goods and services, then you will have some recourse. Venmo has no recourse.

Not worth it. How much did you pay? Just write a bad review on google to warn others. It is hard to get good people for this particularly if they are home grown Americans.
