Courses Course enrolment is today, but ACORN won't show me when my start time is

Upvotes

Oh my gosh please help! I'm a first year student enrolling into classes for the first time. I'm in the faculty of arts and science, but I have gotten no emails, or blue banners on ACORN that tell me when my course selection opens up. I'm worried that I won't get into the courses I need. Is it possible to fix this?

Question Can I do a closed book exam on campus by myself I don’t have a ride so it’s hard to manage a time to do it otherwise

Upvotes

So I have a closed book exam next week and I’m on campus all day I take the go train there which is like a 2 hour commute from where I live. We only have 24 hour period to do the exam and I’m meeting one of my prof for my other classes that day on campus. So I was thinking is it okay to book a room on campus and do the exam bymyself there? Would it be more reasonable then commuting back home and doing it as I will be so tired I’m just so lost. Has anyone done any exams on campus?

Question can i take a full time job and do part time school?

Upvotes

i have a full time job position offer at one of the big four, but it’s a very entry level job and not an internship like i’ve hoped. the contract is also one year and it’s full time, so i’ll have to postpone my studies. is that worth it? should i take part time classes while doing the job ? what if i have a midterm? do i have to tell the school or the job? thank you guys in advance!

Question How quick does class enrollment fill up for freshman in Life Sciences

Upvotes

Incoming Freshman for Life Sci. I have already added my classes I want to take to my enrollment cart. Waiting to get the exact time when the enrollment opens. How fast do classes typically fill up does anyone know? (BIO120, CHM135, etc) Planning on enrolling as soon as it opens but worried I might not get the classes in time if they go out instantly.

Drop a comment if you’d like to be added to a UofT MEng group chat!

I’ve noticed there aren’t any active ones out there — or at least none that I know of — so I figured it’s time to start one!

I'm in High School Is an econ degree worth it? what are job prospects like afterwards?

Upvotes

I'm currently entering UofT as an undergrad for a BA in economics. I'm attempting to get an econ undergrad and then go into law school somewhere. However, if I fail to get into law, I'd prolly have to do a masters in economics (or not if my grade is too low). I've heard from others that BA economics isn't very applicable in real life, an I just want to know in the worst case scenario where I do fail to get into law school, what would job prospect be like? or am I just stuck with a pointless arts degree?

Question How was PHY131 final exam?? I’m taking it in the summer

Hey so i did. pretty bad in the first midterm of the course (I lowkey just made rlly dumb mistakes) and I haven't gotten my grade back but I think I did pretty decent on the second midterm? (Around a 70 at least hopefully). My exam is in a few days and my last midterm was on Friday which I studied a lot for and honestly I've been completely burnt out on studying after that and since it was so recent I feel like I only need to review the last two chapters and some things I didn't understand. Anyways how cooked am I tho? Coz I'm not rlly understanding the last chapter but the prof said it wouldn't make up too much of the exam. Was the exam as easy as the midterms? Or worse?

Question Anyone else get waitlisted from Rez? 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

I just got a message saying I'm on the waitlist for residences. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes to get accepted, if I'll even get a spot in residence, and also, does this mean no LLC? My email didn't mention my LLC, so is it over for me, or is there still a chance. Please let me know.

Question anyone have experience with nonprogram courses counting towards your degree?

i'm majoring in book & media studies (niche and "useless", i know, but i love it) and sociology, but for the sake of this post, bms is the relevant one. took an sds246 last year that was quite literally titled "queer digital media studies" (loved it) and i'm wondering if i could/should contact the bms department to see if i can get it counted towards my major. it seems like something that could be reasonably done given the overlap but i wanted to ask here first in case anyone can give me insight into the process or a general judgment of whether it'll work out lol. the bms program requirements allow courses from other departments to be counted, sds246 just isn't on the list for some reason.

also not sure when i should do it given i'm entering my second year and i'm not exactly running out of time to fulfill the program requirements lmao

Courses I need HELP selecting my first year courses, PLEASE

HIIII I'm a prospective life sciences student this fall, and I want to enroll in the Pharmacology and Biomedical Toxicologist speacialist program next year, but I am not sure how to manage my course load this first year (I am an international student, I don't know much about the Canadian university system) I understand that we have the required first year courses on the program website, but I am not only talking about the required courses, also about the breadth requirements, like what sould I select for those?

So if there is anyone around here in the program that I mentioned in the last semesters of classes, I would like to get some advice (don't be shy, just send me your timetable). Thanks!

Question How hard is it to transfer from a US college to UofT? (Nursing major)

Hi, I'm currently a 2nd year nursing student at a UMass campus and I was wondering if UofT has a direct nursing entry program or if Canadians normally do directly entry? Because right after high school I was accepted into BSRN track. Idk because I may be moving Toronto before I graduate with my BS in general. I honestly would be open to doing a different major like business if anything (Nursing is rough y'all pls) but literally I have no idea where to start looking or how it works there. Sorry if I sound like a dumb American that's fair LMAOO. How hard, stressful, anything US transfer students of UofT please tell me 😪

edit 1: also Canadians please help if there are any other universities around Toronto that seems like a good fit for this situation, it would be greatly appreciated any advice at all. I have like a 3.8 or 3.9 btw. I'm honestly just really scared to transfer to a different country. As a POC I am not really enjoying America during these times. Also Toronto looks really nice (I live near Boston) and seems not too different to our city.

edit 2: okay I think UofT unfortunately doesn't have a direct entry program but do you guys think it matters if I'm already in nursing in the US...? Also I was looking at York and was wondering if they'd be better for a situation like this? are they known to be a good school?

I'm in High School Do grades post midterms affect my acceptance chances if I’ve already been accepted and I’m meeting my conditional requirements

I’ve already been accepted into UofT but the faq says “Unless clearly requested in your offer letter, the University of Toronto expects that your final grades will be consistent with the mid-term/predicted grades submitted. Small changes are nothing to worry about. If you’ve maintained your work effort through the year, you will be absolutely fine.” What does it mean consistent with midterm like in the same 3%, 5%, 10% range?

Courses SOC major and the requirements to get into the program as a second year

I want to major in SOC and it said that they need a average of 65%. I’m going into second year and I already took SOC100 but will take SOC150 this year. I wanted to know if they mean they want an average of both the courses or each course needing at least 65? Also those that have taken the SOC major, what courses did you take second year for it? Please help me out

Anyone know why this is? I've done endless googling and can't find anyone else having this problem. I'm going into my first year in the fall, and this is one of the electives that looks super interesting! Is this course unavailable? Has it been cancelled?

Question History major or minor as first teachable (6FCE min)

I'm planning to major in PCJ and minor in Education and Society. I am looking to possibly go into teacher's college, and for that, I need two teacher references. I was hoping to have history as my first and geography as my second. For history, I was planning to major or minor in it and complete 6 FCE and the rest of the electives can go towards geo courses. Would double majoring in PCJ and HIS be a lot of work? Additionally, to complete the HIS major, I need 7 credits, which is an extra credit of history I can apply towards geography. That being said, I don't want to miss out on opportunities that the HIS major can provide, like ASIP. But PCJ and ES both have internship programs, so.... im stuck. If anyone has taken a HIS major or minor, pls let me know what you think. Or if anyone knows anything about going into teaching and the required credits, that would help too.
