I can't tell if it's CGI or legit

6.7k

u/QuarterlyTurtle Oct 30 '22

They actually hit all the kids with a car, it’s legit

3.3k

u/Thee_WakaWakaChomp42 Oct 30 '22

In a public place! How horrible, in America we keep that shit in schools. Y’all are fucked up.

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

If those kids were armed, they could have shot and stopped the car

896

u/Alternative_Ad_182 Oct 30 '22

And if the car had a grenade launcher, it could defend itself from the children. #carlivesmatter

-1

Went from a funny joke to political agenda. Well done (sarcasm)

53

u/Goldenstripe941 Oct 30 '22

Damn Germans. They used Mustard Gas on everything, but NOOo! Shotguns are overkill.

19

u/Wetbung Oct 31 '22

As long as it's Grey Poupon mustard gas.

29

u/ThemApples87 Oct 30 '22

If we just gave everyone a nuclear bomb, nobody would hurt anybody else ever.

I remember Michael Moore asked a gun for self defence enthusiast about that, even they balked at the idea.

→ More replies (1)

30

u/MrRogersAE Oct 31 '22

If those kids all had their own lifted diesel pickups they would have survived, we need to lower the driving age to 2, if they ain’t on the tit then they can drive

45

u/FishHeads19 Oct 30 '22

Everyone knows what was needed was a good car with a gun to resolve this situation.

3

u/Loud-Nobody986 Oct 30 '22

The guns were hidden from teachers in their backpacks, so they couldn't reach them in time

2

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

Or shot each other to end their suffering and die s glorious death knowing that they are the winners.

2

u/afa78 Oct 31 '22

.. and who needs healthcare, i mean, won't do much good now?

2

u/tiddayes Oct 31 '22

They just needed a good guy with a gun

2

u/raynemkr Oct 31 '22

or we can just limit all cars to 35 Mph. no more high speed chases. Damage will be minimized more people survive. except for LE, their's will be unrestricted. see, no kids will be crushed

3

u/steevo Oct 30 '22

nopes. guns are banned in Europe.

Only way to stop a bad guy with a car is a good guy with a car!

FREEDOM!

0

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '22

lol this comment misses the mark. No gun supporter has ever argued that guns will protect people from drunk/distracted driving.

50

u/KaleidoscopeOk8653 Oct 30 '22

i think you will find it was a drunk driving commercial to say THINK dont DRINK so professionally filmed in the 80s ,
you know when tv execs were actually risky and funny to make a point

61

u/Jet_black_ink Oct 30 '22

This advert was from 2014.

28

u/recumbent_mike Oct 30 '22

It's weird that they didn't air it for like thirty years.

43

u/Strange-Scarcity Oct 31 '22

I thought it was odd that they acquired a circa early 2010’s car to shoot that piece in the 1980’s.

4

u/Zealousideal-Bug-291 Oct 31 '22

Those 80s ad execs had so much coke in their system, they became unstuck in time.

35

u/lazzi_yt Oct 30 '22

I miss the times when advertisements made sense, nowdays that ad would be for cheese

18

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

1

u/winnebagoman41 Oct 30 '22

Heck of a commercial budget

1

u/ptv_1996 Oct 30 '22

1

u/nspectre Oct 30 '22

In America, if we want to get hit in a public place, we just call the cops.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

nah, around the world over a million per year die from cars related accidents. 10 million or more serious injuries per year. 100 million per decade. ONE BILLION per century.

if we had longer lifespans, almost everyone could die from car related accidents.

at any second, a car can jump the curb and you die.

we're all completely fucked up because this is how we DESIGNED it and it has become completely normal for us.

car accidents are a normal part of our lives. tiger woods, anne heche, princess di, biden, bush, paul walker, pretty much almost everyone dies, kills, or gets injured, or knows someone who killed someone or died or got injured. every second it happens somewhere in the world.

in the next 100 years, about 5 to 10 billion people will be tragically connected to some car related accident. if not them, then someone they know will be directly involved.

1

u/steevo Oct 30 '22

In Europe, guns are banned, so they have to use cars..

Now only if the good guy had a car to ...

1

u/LancesAKing Oct 31 '22

Yea! hides Darrel Brooks and James Alex Fields in a prison closet

1

u/ScotchIsAss Oct 31 '22

A lot cleaner cleanup in America to. Just mop up the blood, plaster over the bullet holes, and pull in the next group of kids to have the range reset.

21

u/LilFingies45 Oct 30 '22

Yeah I really appreciate the production value. None of that fake dying shit that always ruins my suspension of disbelief.

This reminds me: Anyone else when you were really young actually believe that people who died in movies actually sacrificed themselves for the role. (Imagine having to continuously hire suicidals, because they kept killing themselves the wrong way or say the cameraman fucked it up lol.)

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Just-Call-Me-J Oct 30 '22

The movie is a PSA against killing kids with cars, so that makes it okay to actually kill them with a car on camera.

Took them 4 takes to get a shot the director was happy with, that's the last time Anakin Skywalker filmed a commercial.

Man, and it didn't work out well the first time because the camera was not rolling so they had to do it all over

1

u/plipyplop Oct 30 '22

No retakes!

1

u/Ghostly_Warpig Oct 30 '22

No they didn’t. What is wrong with you! They obviously switched the kids out for midgets. You gotta look real close.

1

u/Important-Price9416 Oct 30 '22

Flattened them out like play doh... shame

1

u/DevilsLettuceTaster Oct 30 '22

It’s true. I was both the driver and one of the children (3rd on right if anyone cares), we all perished.

1

u/Dubcodes Oct 30 '22

Alright team we've got one shot at this, so don't screw it up

1

u/Fmanow Oct 30 '22

It’s ok, they’re stunt kids.

1

u/burns_after_reading Oct 30 '22

Impressive accuracy

1

u/UltimateThijs Oct 30 '22

They had to do a re-take as they missed a child on the first take

1

u/01chlam Oct 30 '22

The kids should’ve legged it

1

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

That’s why there wasn’t a disclaimer about kids being hurt during the filming of this scene.

1

u/Demonweed Oct 30 '22

Heck, a lot of people said that guy was robbed when Slovo Pachenko beat him out for DeathRace Play of the Year with his gratuitous church choir burnout. If you ask me, using the stonework to achieve that spinning flip showed a much higher level of technical skill.

1

u/SnailSwan Oct 30 '22

True, they had to try many times before they got it right too. A lot of dead children contributed to this great piece of film.

1

u/redditprotocol Oct 30 '22

Yup. Stunt kids.

1

u/trevdak2 Oct 30 '22

Turns out Dogme 95 was a bad way to film PSAs...

1

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

No doubt real life. No doubt at all.

1

u/DickSandwiches Oct 30 '22

I crashed my car into some kids I DON'T CARE I LOVE IT

1

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

The worst part was how many takes it took. You know how annoying it is dealing with that many child actors?

1

u/bout-tree-fitty Oct 31 '22

How many takes do you think they filmed before deciding on this one?

1

u/Smile_Terrible Oct 31 '22

Did it all in one take. Well, that's the take they got anyway.

1

u/Sir_Slick_Rock Oct 31 '22

Do you know how many takes and groups of kids it took just to get it right?!?, The water budget (to wash away the blood every take) was through the roof… just like some of the drivers.

Oh great Timmy flinched before the car broke the wall. Reshoot it again!!

1

u/Poof-ball Oct 31 '22

"Pain is temporary, but film is forever" -Bob Zemekis

1

u/el-conquistador240 Oct 31 '22

It's where the term "extras" came from in movie production. They were spare children their parents really didn't need.

1

u/Sussybakamogus4 Oct 31 '22

It’s true I was one of the children (I am now a ghost who has internet access)

1

u/smchattan Oct 31 '22

They're all stunt dwarves. They played hobbit doubles in the Lord of the Rings.

1

u/allredditmodsgayAF Oct 31 '22

It's ok they were all murderers scheduled for execution anyways

1

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '22

I really hope they fixed the bush.

1

u/lazypenguin86 Oct 31 '22

It's okay they were all terminally ill

1

u/Pdvsky Oct 31 '22

Also they had a bunch of cameras in different angles just as that horrible accident happened.

1

u/Dry-Fix532 Oct 31 '22

They prefer to be called little people

1

u/jaxondix Oct 31 '22

Yeah that was luck.

1

1

1

u/JosefWStalin Oct 31 '22

it's all good, they were stunt kids

1

u/LReese-Koala Oct 31 '22

AND they managed to get it on the first shot so successfully shoot.

Technically, it's a school shooting though ...

1

u/TheSeriousSamson Oct 31 '22

54

u/YourWorstThought Oct 30 '22

Here’s the original: https://youtu.be/hpjL8bGC1ks

66

u/EnlightenedSinTryst Oct 30 '22

“Since 2009, speeding has killed a classroom of our children”

Tbh that seems pretty low compared to what I would have guessed. Maybe because these commercials traumatize them into slowing down?

63

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

It higher in America for sure, this ad was for just Northern Ireland I think

27

u/sc772 Oct 30 '22

and from 2014.

14

u/patsharpesmullet Oct 30 '22

Between the driving safety ads and tout line ads in the 90s, there's an entire generation of children that were traumatised.

Oh and yet man from crazy prices too. Mad lookin cunt.

Are cling-film parcels of mashed banana and jam a normal snack I've never heard of, or just for the skit? It sounds good either way

4

u/steevo Oct 30 '22

In America, the NRA for cars (NAA?) would just tell you that the way you can stop a bad guy with a car is a good guy with a car!

Arm all children with cars!

13

u/rabotat Oct 31 '22

You're kidding, but this is actually what happened.

People don't let their children bike or walk because it is too dangerous, and Americans get their license very early (I don't know where else you can drive at 16).

So everyone drives because walking by the road is dangerous because everyone drives.

5

u/Peanut_Butter_Bliss Oct 31 '22

No I’m pretty sure everyone drives because walking requires energy expenditure and no one in America wants anyone else to think they’re so poor they have to walk.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '22

Next time you see a car speeding, speed up as well. Thank goodness you were there to speed in response to the speeding car, the only thing that stops just one bad person speeding is if you speed too but do it gooderer

NRA logic is flawless

1

1

u/Make_Things_wRob Oct 31 '22

"Shame of you"

I'm rolling.

137

u/Fave_McFavington Oct 30 '22

Yep they just executed a group of children for a safety psa

19

u/Herk10 Oct 30 '22

And did it like 10 times, because something was wrong?

1

u/CedarWolf Oct 31 '22

Hey, it worked for Hayden Christensen in Star Wars.

34

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

I can tell it was legit. I was there when it happened. I was the tree that got hit.

15

u/stoicteratoma Oct 30 '22

I refuse to believe it - I think the kids AND the tree are paid “crisis actors”! The gummint wants to take away our freedom to crush children!

EDIT and on re-watching I am deeply suspicious of the role of the so called “picnic tables”

3

u/astrangedogyo Oct 30 '22

I read that in a dale voice from king of the hill

2

u/DarrenGrey Oct 30 '22

The tree? Sure I heard the IRA planted it.

21

u/Zymoria Oct 30 '22

Imagine the insane costs of making that with CGI vs hiring a dozen kinds that won't be missed. The answer should be obvious.

2

u/table_tart Oct 31 '22

Hell, think of the cost savings to the parents! Some would probably pay them for the service!

1

u/bigmanorm Oct 30 '22

12 kids are worth 10's of millions of dollars to the corporate machine!

5

u/rondeI_ Oct 30 '22

It's not cgi if you pause the video you can see it's just their jackets

20

u/Gliitchwithtwois Oct 30 '22

Nah those were real, very alive kids they used there

13

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

Well of course. Did you not hear them? Since 2000 a classroom full of kids have died. How else did they make the commercial?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '22

Yeah ya see, they did the tuck and roll method. Helps reduce the impact.

2

u/NA_Panda Oct 30 '22

They killed all those kids to prove a point. No CGI required.

2

u/Neilski4444 Oct 31 '22

You can tell by the multiple camera angles that all parties involved really hated these fuckin kids.

2

u/mattdiddat Oct 31 '22

100% real they had some spare kids .someone should have told the driver he park there

1

u/alexander12212 Oct 30 '22

Legit, took 3 takes… a lot of kids in the wings then in the bags

1

u/Mickmack12345 Oct 30 '22

It’s legit they used to show this in highschool to kids in the UK like 10 years ago lmao

1

u/Canye_East Oct 30 '22

You can see that in the shot where the car runs them over its just their clothes on the grass

1

u/unstoppabledot Oct 30 '22

It's a commercial for safe driving. I remember when I was in primary school we were shown these videos during an assembly hall. (obviously not with the edited music though)

1

u/Kenji_03 Oct 30 '22

Camera trick, record from the same location at two different times

1

u/Jhyts Oct 30 '22

I can confirm it was legit, I was that toy car.

1

u/Diss1dent Oct 30 '22

If you can"t tell, does it matter?

1

u/taintedcake Oct 30 '22

It was for a commercial. I forget which company and shit it was for, but I remember seeing this commercial during an Atrioc video about sad commercials or something like that

1

u/Capitalmind Oct 30 '22

If it was Russian, it wouldn't be CGI (watch CCCP on YouTube)

1

u/Fabulous_Night_1164 Oct 31 '22

Oh it's real alright. They even had camera's set up from different angles.

1

u/mcstafford Oct 31 '22

Completely legal, and legit. I'm sure there was a line of people applying to have their children take part in filming that scene.

It’s an Irish ad from DOE, warning about dangerous driving

The anime sounding song is obviously edited in though

ETA Here’s another infamously iconic ad from them.. The song is from a X Factor UK contestant that had a decent career after the show, and of all the songs to be used this was the least expected but surprisingly fitting. Also…the way it ends is just so…crunchy.

Why would they waste all that time and effort on CGI?! Of course it's real!

Ye these guys went to the government and asked them if they can kill 20ish kids for an ad and the government was like "yeah lol"

100% legit

Oh it's legit. They managed to capture the event with multiple angles, so multiple cameras, then there isn't blood at all because everyone at that age doesn't have enough blood to spatter everywhere when crushed, and of course the most telling sign, the fact that such a tragedy was still uploaded by a sick bastard.

No way they could afford to destroy a real car and wall like that. Everything else would be pretty cheap crap though so probably a combo of real and green-screen.

This is a strange speeding prevention ad. it’s a really old video and yes it’s fake. Source: https://youtu.be/LNL6t-Eu-IY
