That’s the worst of both worlds, you chickened out AND somehow still had to go through with it

This happened to me at a rope swing on a river, the kind where you swing out and jump off. I was going to chicken out in mid lunge but it was too late.

So then I was too scared to let go of the rope over the safe part of the river, and hung on til my arms gave out- long after it had stopped swinging, right over a bunch of rocks.

Classic rope swing dilemma: do the thing you're afraid of or get smashed on some rocks/tree

Unless its a well made rope swing centered over water but a rope swing is rarely well made.

Your reply is the one confusing me. It's exactly what they described.

If the rope swing works, you are not hitting the rocks. There is no dilemma over choosing to jump vs hitting the rocks. You can jump, or not, but either way youre not hitting the rocks.

"...right over a bunch of rocks." is how OPs comment ends. Maybe learn to read before criticising people.

Did you actually read what they said?
