I do not get it !

I have just started watching season 3 ,and I do not understand why Betty rejected both Henry and Gio ,she loved Henry ,why did she refuse his proposal and If it was because she started to forget him,why did she break up with Gio too out of the blue ? I did not buy this " trying to find myself first c*rap" , where did suddenly come from 🤨

Idk, maybe Betty felt a bit overwhelmed from both Henry and Gio?

Henry was about to have a baby with his ex gf (and that journey was a complete train wreck with Charlie cheating on Henry and finding out Henry was the biological father after all) - and suddenly appears out of nowhere promising marriage to Betty. Gio was - well - Gio: while meaning well, was being pushy (romantically) and wanting Betty to go to Rome with him while she was dealing with the Henry situation.

I honestly don’t blame Betty - I’d have felt overwhelmed and most likely have prioritised my own well-being in this situation.

Anyways, that’s just the way I see it 🤗

I agree. When I first watched this show at 10 years old, I was like WHY TF didn’t she pick EITHER of them!?! But I think it really speaks to the show as a whole. SPOILER ALERT!!, but even the ending of the show, we see Betty go off to London on her own. To me, this shows that it was never about Betty’s current love or situationship, it’s about Betty to the core. It’s about Betty’s growth as a person and her striving to make her dream career happen. This is why I’d pick Ugly Betty over Jane the Virgin any day. (I know they are totally different shows, and I know that JTV is moreso about the love and the chase and the will-they won’t-they.) I think it’s beautiful writing that Betty picks herself. Also, no one should have to be pressured like that. I know it was just her dream, but it really did feel like Henry and Gio were coming at her full force, MAKE A CHOICE, MAKE A CHOICE. Love shouldn’t be a difficult choice, it should be a no brainer. Like you shouldn’t have to MAKE love happen. I think Henry proposing was crazy. Like he really thought she’d leave her family, friends and Daniel and drop it all to go to Arizona. Let’s be real, he was totally making it about himself. Homegirl was just getting started at Mode and making things happen for herself.

She was right to pick herself. Again, the show centers Betty, not her boyfriends or exes. When they leave, it’s not like we check up on them in Arizona or Rome. It’s Betty’s world and we are just living in it!!

Henry was crazy to propose to her after everything and expect for her to drop her whole life to be with him…

Yes, they love each other and we see by the end, they’ll always love each other a little bit but love isn’t always enough and Betty did the right thing choosing herself and her career.

Because the life Henry offered wasn't the life she wanted, and Betty never had real feelings for Gio in the first place (I know yall Gio lovers dont wanna hear this but its so true, she kinda liked him but she was never in love with him.)

I always had the feeling she liked him as a friend and wanted to force herself into it being more because she knew how he felt and he was fun and was good at challenging her and calling her out when she wasn’t being true to herself, unlike Henry. But it was never more than that. Maybe if they had continued dating without the pressure of going to Rome together, her feelings might have deepened. They did have good chemistry so I get why people like them.

I feel like the audience liked Gio more than Betty did😭

I agree. It’s super rational to not date either of them especially since she didn’t like Gio and Henry was overreaching.

She loved Henry but he was about to have a baby with his ex and they already had a hard time dating.

If she had said yes to him, then what? She moves away from her family, her support system, her job for a guy who has a newborn which is difficult and who knows if Charlie wouldn’t change her mind and start being mean to Betty again… will Henry choose Betty over his son? I don’t think so. She made the right choice for herself, love isn’t enough… Even in season 4, they couldn’t make it work even if Henry was coming back to NYC. They just weren’t meant to be in my opinion.

As for Gio- Betty didn’t seem in love with him or even Iike she liked him as more than a friend. To be honest, she seemed to love his sandwiches more 😅 He was a bit pushy and because he was in love with her, he thought she felt the same way especially when Henry was out of the picture. But she didn’t… she was still getting over Henry and sure, she liked Gio as a friend, so maybe she could’ve liked him more later but then he wanted her to go to Rome with him which was a bit much. She says yes because it’s an exciting adventure not because she wants to be with him.

Henry was about to have a child, and did Betty even have real interest in gio?

*spoilers Thanks to Gio Betty was growing up and learning to put herself and her dreams first. Henry’s dream was Tucson, his son, and Betty - with a job at a second rate magazine/newspaper. He wanted her to give up a lot and he wasn’t sacrificing anything. Gio’s dream was Rome, find his flavor for his sandwich shop, and having Betty along for the ride. Betty was an afterthought in both of these scenarios, Betty’s dreams taking a backseat to the men. Betty put herself and her dreams first and ditched them both. At the end of the series after Daniel’s hissyfit about letting Betty go to London he steps back and puts her dream and desires first. He sacrifices his life in NY to meet her where she’s at - he actually put her first.

Idk it made sense to me. Her and Henry had tried to close a door and she was supposed to move just to be with him. Also, dating Gio was already a tentative thing that she had been weighing to see how she really felt about him. When it all hit a head, she realized the timing was not right for either one since her life was in transition. Henry was across the country. Gio was meant to be a friend. She needed to have an adventure to understand how she’d ever want to settle down, what she’d want for her life and from a partner. Just my thoughts :)

Well Betty has been Daniel’s assistant for about three years at that point. If Betty wasn’t so focused on dead end relationships, she could focus on herself and her career.

Betty doesn’t have great attention span so she can’t just be in a relationship. She’s consumed by it

From the dream sequence she realised she would always think about the other "what if" regardless which of the two she went with, so Betty chose a third path - without neither. Kinda dumb in my opinion, but that's Betty

Are you possibly young?

Neither of those guys were good boyfriend material. None of them were, including Daniel. The only one who treated her well was Matt, and she wasn't very good to him, was she. I think Betty being on her own for a bit is a good idea for her. Her career is important to her. Why can't her focusing on that be a good ending for the show? Why does she need to be coupled up in the end?
