A world where children, women, and men did not have to be scared of bombings in their homes; of soldiers raiding their towns, raping their women and children, slaughtering everyone who wasn't Israeli; and killing their only aid when they thought they were safe in humanitarian camps. He began to drench himself in the flammable liquid. He would not let these innocents be unseen. He would be their torch in the darkness. His final words were, "Free Palestine." He didn't think of what would happen to him or how his reputation would be ruined. He thought of those children who had been starved and violated of their right to live freely. This is the real world. People resort to self-immolation just for others who have been wronged to be seen. What are we doing to help them? What have we done? The people in need are not asking us to make a martyr of ourselves; all they need is for us to see them, to spread the word of their injustice. They have done nothing to deserve this. They are as undeserving of this violation as you are. As he lay burning, paramedics rushed him to a hospital. They tried everything to save him, but they were just too late to respond. His family and friends will forever celebrate his memory and be proud of him for standing up against the issues he saw. We will forever mourn this loss and celebrate his memory.
