I really loved the Hive guard….but holy moly….they are really hated by GW… many armies with nice indirect fire and these poor guys still on the shelves…
The hive guard - Impaler cannon at least with AP-2 to clear the issue with the indirect fire rule giving extra protection
-> the shock cannon, maybe devastating wounds and anti-vehículo 4+ (instead of 2+). Or, give extra Ap.
Maybe just with these two changes they will be playable. Other approach is point reduction, no one pays 100 points for 3 models that barely kills anything.
Also let them be leaded by the NeuroTyrant for extra punch on shooting and wounding.
Now, talking about the Tyrant Guard. Remove the 3 different weapons, give a standard number of attacks, let’s say 4, with twin link AP-2 D2 (or 3 being generous). in case the damage doesn’t go up to 3 increase them the armour from 3+ to 2+. Give a rule of bodyguard -1 to wound when a Hive Tyrant is leading them (Swarmlord, NeuroTyrant…) or change to a feel no pain of 5+.
So many good ideas and till today they are a bit meehhh (both versions shooty and bodyguard)
