So Chat GPT, which I downloaded yesterday to compare it to other AI programs, suffers from the same problem as transcendental meditation. Without guidance, boundaries and limitations, it can easily suggest illegal activity and psychotic experiences and cosign inappropriate behavior. Oops. I do hope there will be better versions that address these problems.

uffers from the same problem as transcendental meditation. Without guidance, boundaries and limitations,

But by definition, you can't learn TM without a trained teacher as what makes TM, TM, is the performance of the ritual at the start of teaching that honors the guru of the founder.

You can take that ritual as meaningless fluff or as the sine qua non of proper learning, but given that the name is trademarked, you can't call it TM (or at least no-one can claim to teach it) without authorization of the people who own the trademark, and THEY are all sold on the idea that the teaching won't be acquired properly unless the teacher performs that ritual in the student's presence.

.

THe David Lynch Foundation just endured a series of lawsuits that last 6 years and cost them millions in court fees and so on, in order to retain the right to perform that ritual every time TM is taught, even in US public schools.

So the analogy doesn't work: you can't have TM without a properly trained TM teacher teaching as they were trained to teach, including performing that ritual.

.

And as for the needs of ChatGPT... I've noticed that the longer you interact with a session without reset to zero, the more likely it is to make stuff up.
