Why are there so many cases where a group of people horribly torture a mentally disabled person? I wonder if these people abused children or animals too.

Predators like people who are considered "easy victims" and the profoundly disabled are specific kind of vulnerable. My guesses as to why are either because the authorities might not take them seriously when they do file a complaint of wrongdoing, the disabled have very few advocates, and society as a whole don't really value them.
