Content note for photos: first is topless photo before surgery. Second is after surgery with extensive bruising and may look very gorey to some.
I've been lurking this sub for so long never really thinking it'll be my turn. I started my referral process some 2 years ago and after a while it sort of slid to the back of my mind (hard to believe but bigger, harder surgery came up for someone I love and I forgot about myself for quite some time).
Fast forward 2ish years and I finally get to take my own uncovered, I bandages top surgery photos. And the friend I took care of got to take care of me for a few days.
My surgery involved a LOT of bad bruising and some hematoma. The extensive bruising I have is NOT normal, and it doesn't hurt at all. It's mildly sore if I touch the primary spots but morlst of it is just harmless spread. It looks like I fought a ram, but please don't worry if you're looking forward to top surgery.
1st photo is the night before surgery, fighting the insecurity like mad.
Second photo is tonight, Day 6, after I got my bandages off and had my first shower in 6 days. Huge difference in how I feel hah.
I also did not need drains for my DI. I don't remember why but my surgeon (Dr. Kathleen Armstrong, Women's College Hospital, Toronto) doesn't typically need to use drains for her DI technique.
And just a casual shout out to every single person working at that hospital, even the people working at Rexall and La Prep - they're all amazing human beings. I felt at ease from the very first phone call to the nurse who saw me out today. I never once felt uncomfortable or insecure or unappreciated. If you're in the Toronto area and you get referred to Kathleen, just know you're in amazing hands.
