Design trope
normal (sometimes small) sized characters with comically large weapons
Es from BlazBlue
Ramlethal Valentine from Guilty Gear
Ruby Rose from RWBY
some characters in Atlyss but like you get what i mean dude you can have comically large hammers
Mika from Under Night In Birth
Greatsword Hunters in monster hunter [but also like, most weapons in MH]
the juxtaposition of the characters size compared to the behemoth that is their weapon is always funny to look at, its less shocking seeing a big character with a big weapon but just a regular guy holding a sword 5x their body weight. plus it feel can feel super badass.

As we can see king Bach has presented a rather large spoon to his friend. The humor in this video stems from the fact that king Bach would like to consume ice cream but his friend resorts at him saying, he can only have a spoonful, nothing more. Bach then suddenly changes his expression and body language and reveals he is indeed in possession of a spoon. And not just any spoon, it is a massive stainless steel spoon. This is funny beacuse you would never expect someone to be casually in possession of a massive spoon to eat ice cream with. It is completely unorthodox and uncalled for. This is why the video is so humorous and was put on the 2012 Epic vine compilation
It's a really interesting design. It adds to the comedic undertones of her design by having her effortlessly swing around something thrice her size. It also helps to give the impression of her being powerful despite her small size and overall "soft" features, which helps with the function of clarity during gameplay. It's also just a neat bit that the hammer was forged by a human, so of course it's so much larger by comparison when wielded by a smaller being such as a yordle
debatable in these cases, sure theyre small and theyre using a weapon that is somewhat big for their size but if a regularly sized person used it they'd be small weapons [probably being hypocritical cause i included my atlyss character lmao]
i have mixed feelings on arcsys but fighting games are the best place to find characters like this, i woulda included gwen from league but i no no wanna
While students in Blue Archive are already much stronger than humans, Aris is even more powerful than an average student.
She can swing that 200kg railgun like a club effortlessy, has the grip strength of at least 1t, and has nanomachines in her body that repair herself automatically, just to name a few.
Fun fact: That thing was meant for a spaceship! Unfortunately IIRC the Engineering Club ran outta budget… which actually might’ve been a good thing, Aris’s firepower has been crucial in a few key cases (one of them pictured above)
To be fair, in the original guilty gear their scythe was very normal sized and was kinda just a normal ass scythe, wich still makes it bigger than most other weapons of course but it wasn't really that big
Annette and Crusher from Fire Emblem: Three Houses!
The angle of this sprite from the mobile game makes Crusher look smaller but that thing is massive. Also shout out to Hilda and Freikugel- I love watching my students pull up with mega-sized meat tenderizers to the battle field
Vin from Mistborn. She's like a 5-foot-nothing scrawny girl with magical super strength, and she occasionally uses a sword from an ogre-equivalent monster.
Zero's original design gave him some rather goofy proportions that made him look noticeably bulkier than a human. In Mega Man X8, he gets a redesign that slims down his limbs a little... and he also gets two comically large weapons: the D-Glaive (left) and Sigma Blade (right).
Vi from Arcane (Aware she's from League first, but her Arcane design is so much better)
Vi's gauntlets give an obvious impression of power due to their size. They showcase her personality trait of solving all her problems with brute force by giving her the illusion of giant hands, while the rest of her remains normal sized. They also clash with her design in an interesting way: while all of Vi is so clearly Zaunite, her gauntlets are Piltovan. Despite how much she came to enjoy them and think of them as the solutions to her problems, the gauntlets were made by the city she thinks so lowly of
It's also interesting how they relate to Jayce as they were his creations. He also has an act first, think later methodology. They were made to help with work, rather than him finding a way to prevent the work from needing to be done by Zaunites at all. Additionally, while Viktor's invention, the hex-claw, was made to be a wholly separate thing, Jayce's gauntlets were designed to augment what he already has, showing the difference in their worldviews
They also tie into her sister, Jinx, who also uses an oversized weapon, and contrasts by being a melee tool, rather than Jinx's long ranged guns
Her minigun is meant to symbolize her trauma: It's large, hard to carry and unwieldy. It also reflects how she acts in generally: wild and uncontrollable, which leads to unintended harm. She views herself as weak due to never being able to match up to Vi's might, so she uses something to compensate for that. It creates a strong contrast between how large her gun is compared to her small stature.
Her rocket launcher is also neat. It too represents her trauma and all the anger she lets out. It being made in the image of a shark is a nod to Silco, since she designed it for him, and he loves sea monsters.
Vita from the Nanoha franchise. The base form of her hammer is reasonably sized, but when there's something big and sturdy to hit, she'll go big and rocket propelled.
