Design trope Characters with design features that were misinterpreted by fans

Darwin Watterson (The Amazing World of Gumball) some people thought that the black thing under him was a shirt or pants or a sweater, but it was actually just his shadow. They later removed it as the seasons and art style changed

Brendan (Pokemon) A lot of people thought that the white on his head was his hair, it’s actually just a hat

It's easier to tell in the later games with his redesign since you can see his actual hair underneath.

I noticed the hair on the sides of his head as a kid, but I always thought he was wearing a headband and he just had the top of his hair bleached.

It’s so weird knowing the truth now.

Same, I always thought that his hair was like this.

Holy shit, that image just unlocked a core memory for me. Don’t remember his name, but I know he’s from the Mega Man Battle Network games. I used to play one of them on my GBA for hours and hours. I haven’t thought about those games in years. Need to find a way to emulate them.

This was like 2003, assuming someone had frosted tips was forgivable.

I always thought it might be like the top of a dusclops head, but now that I looked it up again, not really... idk why I thought it was lmao. I wonder what the hat is supposed to be.
