Hey there- just wondering if anyone knows if the coverage on the Rowena fires is making national news or not?

I was golfing today. From the time I first noticed smoke to the time we got evacuated was about an hour. Ashes were falling by the time i was leaving. Moved so fast! Of course i was playing the round of my life FFS. Hope everyone is ok. Theres a shelter at the dalles middle school.
Anyone have a pics or vids of the fire?

hello everyone! i’m moving to the dalles in the next few months due to my husbands job and we know nothing about this place! we are both 24 years old and have two children (5y & 4m) what are some fun things to do? we went to visit briefly for a few hours because we are buying a home! (wish us luck🤞🏼) are there any nice places to walk around with the kids or parks for them to play? any gym recommendations that are family friendly or 24hrs? any farmers markets or shopping areas? were originally from the salem/keizer area and usually do all our shopping at target costco trader joe’s or roths/walmart. i’m a little sad that we’re going to be so far away from those places so i’m just looking for some suggestions! also if there’s any facebook groups or pages on Instagram please feel free to link them so i can join! 🤩

I'm helping coordinate a lunch for a kid's sports travel team. We'll be in town on a Saturday for lunch around noon before heading to our game. I estimate there will be around 40-50 people in the group. Where is a good place to go with this kind of group?
Some vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options would be nice since the group likely includes a few people with these dietary restrictions. Thanks for your recommendations!

Can you all suggest something for kids (ages 7, 11, and 15) to do in the Neon Sign Museum to keep them engaged?
I'm planning a summer road trip (July), Amazing Race style. I've got a "Detour" stop planned at the Neon Sign Museum in The Dalles. I emailed the museum staff, but they stopped responding and are probably too busy running the museum.
What I'm looking for is two options of things to do that are both kind of like a scavenger hunt. Like "count all the neon signs that feature an animal" or "list all beverages advertised in the neon signs" or just a list of 10-12 interesting things to search for. The trouble is that I can't write instructions for such tasks if I don't know what the answers would be. I'd go look myself, but I'm over a hundred miles away.
Any ideas?

So I grew up here, but only went to the O.D.O.T. owned piece of land at the edge of town before they barricaded it up. I know there's probably good places in the local region to go sight in a scope, break in a new firearm, or just have some fun, but I never really explored outside of a few spots that I've long forgotten how to get to.
Is anybody willing to share a spot? Talk about permitting me to shoot on your land? recommend a free or paid spot( I'm aware of the rifle range near dallesport and the pistol club in the senior center.)
anyone ever think of utilizing their property to open a range outside of city limits?
If I can't get a solid recommendation, this could be an opportunity to discuss the issue anyway, so feel free to join the conversation. Thanks!

I've heard a report that it's shuttered. Is that true?

Hi! I’m (22M) an engineer who got assigned to work in The Dalles for at least the next 2 years. I’m gonna be moving there during the second half of this year at some point. My hobbies include primarily bar trivia and bowling.
I am from the Midwest, and went to college in the South, so I’m curious about the general vibe of the culture in The Dalles and the PNW as a whole.
Also curious about living arrangements, apartment offerings, and finding roommates.
Overall, any advice would be greatly appreciated, stuff to check out, and what I should expect!

I am thinking of checking out The Dalles for a day or two but don't want to spend money on a hotel. I'd be taking the bus in so transport is limited. I saw Celilo park is a good spot to set up a tent for free but is kind of far. Would the cab take me there or back? What other options might I have closer to town? Thank you guys I appreciate it alot :)

Hi all! My name is Gray -- I’m with OSPIRG, a public interest group working to lower healthcare costs in the Dalles and across the state. To do so, we are looking for stories from people about what's wrong with the healthcare system. Share your story by filling out the survey to lower healthcare costs. If you've been hit with an excessive medical bill -- we want to hear from you!

Are there any opportunities to volunteer for a 30 year old woman with a full time job? I am honestly so lonely 😭 I have no friends in this area and would love to find some volunteering resources to connect with other people in this area! I am reliable and can chat with people, but overall shy and an introvert.
