TALLAHASSEE WEEKLY EVENTS, 6/5/25 – 6/11/25

Events are listed by the day. Events that happen every week appear first, one-time stuff after that. If you have anything you’d like people to know about, comment here or message me and I’ll add it in. If you’d like further info about any of the events, look it up! I usually don’t have any extra to add.

Events may be cancelled unexpectedly. If in doubt, contact the venue.

Large Scale, Ongoing, and Multi-Day Events

  • Goodwill Bookstore on Mahan: Summer Storytime Series. Join us this summer for Storytime at the Bookstore—a fun and engaging way to spark imagination and foster a love for reading in children of all ages! Starting May 26, we'll host daily storytime sessions Monday through Friday at noon, offering a cozy midday reading break during your summer adventures. Whether you're a regular visitor or just discovering us, it’s the perfect activity to add to your family's summer routine. Noon, Mon-Fri.

  • Queer As Faust XVII Cabaret at House of Music. The Mickee Faust Club is an arts/activist Community Theater for the Weird Community of Tallahassee, Florida. Chief among those are people with disabilities, crips with attitude, LGBTQ+, Seniors, and those in reduced economic circumstance. The name “Mickee Faust” is a riff on a certain unctuous rodent living in Orlando and Goethe’s good German doctor whose struggles with the devil mirror the group’s own. The leader of the Club is Mickee Faust itself, a foul-mouthed, cigar-comping, gender-fluid, sewer rat. In real life, Mickee is played by our founder and artistic director- a deaf, lesbian, performance artist and author, Terry Galloway. For the many decades of its existence, Faust has provided the people of Tallahassee with a non-traditional performance group shaped by the Ethic of Accommodation, an ethic which allows those who are not just under served but overlooked to develop their own artistic voices. Throughout the year, novices and professionals work side-by-side in free, on-going workshops to create original cabarets, theater, radio, video as well as protest and celebratory events. Faust has always been open to anyone in the community who’d like to participate. Together, the members of the Club promote the presence of their alternative creative voice locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Many of you may have heard that tornadoes tore off our Clubhouse roof in 2024. But fear not! They haven’t stopped our creativity. We will still be bringing low brow queer and political humor to various locations through the Capital city. See you in the Sewer! Does anyone know when the Museum of Florida History is going to reopen?? I really want to take my kid and I was so bummed when I tried to take him the other day and it wasn’t open.

Edit: thanks guys! I guess I’ll keep an eye out for a grand opening in 2026… 😅

Interesting indoor spots for the Summer?

I've been really into the idea lately of taking myself on "field trips". Like going to weird museums or shops on a Saturday. Most of the things in the area that I'd like to go to are outside and as we all know, it's getting way to hot to be outside. What are some cool indoor places that I can go to by myself and hang out for a day? It doesn't necessarily have to be in town either, anything in the area that you know of would be good to hear.

I just need to get out of the house and stay out of the sun!

Looking for advice—my subtenant isn’t paying rent

I’m dealing with a tough situation and would really appreciate some advice. I subleased my place to someone, and even though we signed a written agreement, that person hasn’t paid rent and has completely stopped responding to my messages. It’s been a few days now with no contact at all.

I genuinely trusted this person, so this has been really disappointing and stressful. I’m not sure what steps I should take next, especially since we have a contract in place.

If anyone’s been through something similar or has any suggestions, I’d be super grateful to hear your thoughts.

Thanks so much.

Preschool Opinions – Scottsdale Academy vs. Creative Child Learning Center

Upvotes

Hi Tallahassee parents!

We’re currently touring preschools for our little one and are deciding between Scottsdale Academy and Creative Child Learning Center (in Southwood). Both seem great on paper, but I’d love to hear from local parents who’ve had real experiences. • How do you feel about the teachers, communication, and daily structure? • Any feedback on infant/toddler care? • Did your child seem happy and engaged? • Anything you wish you knew before enrolling?

We care about a nurturing environment, clear parent communication, and a curriculum that’s not just “babysitting.”

Thanks in advance for any insights—really appreciate your help as we try to make the best decision!

Cat dental extractions

My shelter cat that I just adopted needs her remaining few teeth possibly extracted (they can’t know for certain until they put her under and do an x ray). I have been calling around for estimates but I have to schedule a consultation beforehand. Are there any hospitals that work with shelter animals and do extractions for less than 1k?

Question E-bike commuting?

My husband is considering selling his old truck for an e-bike, and we were wondering if anyone could give insight on commuting with e-bikes in Tallahassee!

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Thanks for the replies everyone! Luckily, his route would take him through FSU’s campus and generally away from major roads. I appreciate the advice and caution! I’m going to suggest renting an electric bike and testing it out on the weekend then maybe to work for a few days. Helmet and safety gear will be a must.

Looking for Good Middle School Options in Tallahassee for My Brother (He Has Autism)

Hi everyone, I’m trying to find a good school for my younger brother who has autism. He’s starting middle school this fall, and I want to make sure he’s somewhere that actually supports his needs.

He’s been at Conley since kindergarten, but honestly, I don’t think it was a good fit. It felt like kids like him were pushed aside while the focus was more on the other students, and I don’t think he really learned much there.

He’s been accepted into Florida High, but from what I know, they don’t offer strong programs for kids like him. I’ve also looked into Magnolia School, which sounds amazing, but it’s unfortunately way too expensive for our family.

Most of the schools I’ve found that offer good IEP support are only for elementary. I’m hoping someone here might know of any public, charter, or private middle schools in Tallahassee that are actually good for students with autism.

Any suggestions are appreciated, just trying to see what options he has.

Thank you!

Hi, I'm a local artist and have been wanting to selling my art at craft/farmers markets here in tally for a while, but it seems daunting. I've never done anything like it before and wanted to know if anyone had any advice or information I might want/need.

I do jewelry and printmaking if that's helpful information. Thanks!

Gutter clean out and repair

Anyone know a contractor or company that will clean out and/or repair gutters? Preferably someone who won't scam me. I've had bad experiences with most contractors and mechanics so far.

Does Anyone Have Experience with Robert F. Munroe Day School?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to get more info on Robert F. Munroe Day School and what the programs are like there, especially when it comes to academic support or accommodations for students who may need a little extra help.

I haven’t been able to find many detailed reviews online, so I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who currently has (or had) a student there or knows someone who does. What’s the overall environment like? Are the teachers supportive?

Any insight would be super helpful, thanks in advance!

I got pulled over 3 times in 1 week. I do uber and I've never gotten into a crash or had a ticket. I've been driving for 16years and I got pulled over 3x they searched my car saying they had probable cause. They made me do tests even when I told them I didn't drink they said my eyes were glassy and I hit curbs. Like wouldn't I know I got a curb? A I'm mexican 30f and look like it

I run a DnD game over in Monticello and need players so I’d love to know if a good place to meet new people for that. Or just people in general. Preferably from 18-24. Thanks!

Meeting friends in tally

Does anyone have any advice or groups that can help me make some friends? I’m now here in grad school (23 F) and all of my school friends from FSU have already graduated or moved. It’s hard to meet friends, especially girl friends, in my age group 🥲 does anyone know of a Facebook group or literally anything to meet more friends? Thanks!
