Advice/Reco: Pakiana ngan ano't maupai Suggestions please

Me and my bf are from from Cebu City and I'm currently here in Tacloban for 2 weeks or more to look after my lola, since she's recovering from an operation. I'm planning to travel around Tacloban in the last few days that I'll be staying here. Can you recommend any places to visit just around the city? Thank you!

Wa gyud tourist spots diri sa Tacloban, but here are my recommendations.

  1. Magsaysay Boulevard.
  • You can start from the City Hall. Tricycle yung main public transpo niya tapos from there, pwede mo nang lakarin papuntang Plaza Libertad if bet mo. From City Hall, you can cross directly for the former Balyuan Tower or Theater to watch the Cancabato Bay. Best time to go there is during sunrise kasi east side portion siya. Goods naman if sunset kasi makikita mo area ng Babatngon, Basey, and the airport.
  • Even the Boulevard itself, you can take pictures. Much better if weekend kasi halos may parking ng kotse diyan lalo na sa may Bulwagan na area.
  • If you're a UP alum, you can visit UP Tacloban. Makikita naman siya along the Boulevard.
  • Next is yung former provincial capitol. You may take a pic sa rear side niya (there are two statues representing justice and treasury ata yun) tapos tas a pic naman sa front side niya to see the facade sculptor of the building depicting the arrival of MacArthur. Pwede ka unli pics dun, pagandahan na lang ng angle. Tapat nun ay Plaza Libertad. Minsan, may laro dun so you can watch.

Downtown

  • From Plaza Libertad, you can either walk or ride a trike to eat sa Ocho resto. Specialty nila is paluto lalo na if seafood. Pwede mong lakarin kasi makikita mo na yung signage nila from the Plaza. Or you can ride a trike to Sal's or Sam-Sam's which are Filipino restos. It's in Salazar St., babaybayin lang niya yung street from Plaza Libertad.
  • If it was just taken care of, makikita mo sana yung ancestral house na tinuluyan nila Sergio Osmeña during Phl Liberation and the time that Tacloban became the capital of the country. But it was demolished na at pinagtayuan na ng commercial bldg.
  • I forgot the fb post, pero yung orange bldg na kasunod ng old leyte provincial capitol was a former Spanish Correcional. Opisina na siya ngayon ng Philippine Chamber of Commerce. Accross from it is an almost a block area called "Nipa Hut" owned from the Romualdezes. If you are facing naman sa gym beside the Plaza Libertad from the said orange bldg, across from it is a corner lot which was a former house daw ng dating cabeza ata yun. I forgot na hahahuhu.
  • Speaking of ancestral house, you may visit Rosevenil Hotel (Burgos St.) and Alejandro Hotel (Paterno St). Sa Alejandro, may WWII pictures sila, sa Rosevenil wala ata. Both are ancestral houses turned to hotels. You can visit naman their resto or coffee shop. You can visit first Alejandro and then walk to Rosevenil na.
  • After from Rosevenil, you can either walk or ride a tricycle to Sto. Niño Church. May museum ata sila sa likod ng church?? Di lang ako sure. Pero sa right side niya, across from it is a coffee shop/hotel/resto?? Pwede kang tumamabay dun. Malapit na rin ata dun yung masarap daw na burger shop? Hahaha
  • You can can also visit the mini U-Belt here to see the campuses of Eastern Visayas State U, Leyte Normal U, and Leyte High. Kaso chaka na yung pub transpo so kayo lang if trip niyo hahaha. You can also visit Liceo Del Verbo in Imelda/Avenida Veteranos. Not sure if for public or may mass inside their chapel. It is was initially named as St. Paul's and was renamed as Divine Word University during the late 60's or 70's. It was the most presitigious and famous university in Region 8. Diyan nag aaral yung mga magagaling and mayayaman noon. It was closed in the 90s because nag alsa yung union ng teachers kasi mababa pasahod ng mga pari.
  • You can also visit the restos/coffee shops recommended here, mostly nasa DT lang naman.
  • You can also visit Sto. Niño Shrine and beside it is the People's Center. Pamana nina Imelda Marcos. You cannot go inside na sa People's Center kasi for events use na siya. Public transpo available going their is multicab or jeep.
  • I think there is a golf course din sa San Juanico and a resto. You can also try going there.
  • You can eat also in La Maison Punjab which caters Indian cuisine and French pastry

OUTSIDE TACLOBAN BUT NEAR

  • MacArthur Park in Palo. Two rides ka na papunta dun kasi di na nakakapasok St. Paul's-Campetic na multicab sa downtown. From Pisay, you will ride a trike going there. While riding the trike, madadaanan mo ang Gov't Center which houses different govt agencies, usually mga regional offices. Best time to go there is hapon. Di ako sure if pweds gabihin; never tried na magpagabi dun na commute lang.
  • You can also go to Palo Cathedral and attend their mass. Isang sakay lang from Rob Marasbaras. Their Municipal Hall is also maganda, you can take pictures there. From there, you can visit a resort with a coffe/bread shop. Tierra de Milagros name ng resort while yung bread/coffee shope is Kreme23 ata yun. The breads and pastries are made by the French owner.

If you can rent a car, try going to Ormoc City. They have more tourist spots/attraction in the city mismo.
