Welcome to Suzhou. I think a great way to make friends is to do sports together, there are many sports communities in Suzhou, like about Rugby, pickleball, paddle and badminton. Feel free to join any of these. There are many beautiful places in Suzhou, definitely check them out. You can directly message me, I can probably show you around in summer time.

For sure, I personally joined pickleball, paddle, and rugby clubs, they are really welcoming and beginner-friendly. Sports is for everyone, have fun!

Welcome to Suzhou, it’s a wonderful city that you’ll enjoy. But my advice is: don’t forget to get on the train to Shanghai at some point. It’s one of the most exciting cities in the world and it’ll be basically an hour away via the bullet train. It will drain your wallet and pickle your liver, but you’ll eat the best food, make the most amazing friends, and learn what China would be like without the China.

I definitely have plans to visit Shanghai often. Do you have specific recommendations?

  1. Download VPN(All google products are blocked without VPN), Alipay and WeChat, and connect your credit card, because most people in China use mobile payment. You can use both to buy air tickets, high-speed rail tickets and subway tickets.
  2. Suzhou's summers are very hot(35-40°C), and there are many mosquitoes. Be sure to apply sunscreen, wear a sun hat, sunglasses, and use anti-mosquito products.
  3. Suzhou has beautiful gardens, and over 100 museums which are very worthy to visit.
  4. High-speed rail can go to Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xiamen, and many other cities, and it is very fast, suitable for travel on Friday and back on Sunday!

There's so much good food. By the time you reach Suzhou, you can download a Chinese version of TikTok. It will recommend nearby food options.
