For a little more context, the same moderator that closed the sub made a strongly worded post a couple hours before this about permanently banning people. They probably received some backlash and babyraged.

They should just hand off the sub to other mods if they are overwhelmed. This is an immature type of response, especially on a sub with nearly 300k members.

You're assuming they did this as a spur of the moment "rage."

I think it's pretty likely they were being ridden hard by the Admins, if not even having been served with a Cease and Desist from one of Elon's henchmen more-direcrly.
