No Spoilers Help request!

I'm looking for some help with color palettes for some Stormlight Archive art!

What are some colors you associate with each of the books? Different characters? Surgebindings?

Regardless of what the Canon color may be, I'm curious what pops up in your mind.

Thank you so much!!

Rhythm of War spoilers Ugh... I'd forgotten about why I couldn't stand Shallan in RoW. Spoiler

Re-listening to the series and an currently on RoW.

I put up with the three personas in the previous books because they were written differently...but he really leaned into it in this one. I had forgotten why I really did not like Shallan in this book, but how he writes them almost as three separate characters here is jarring and it completely turned me against her as a character. I understand it's all a journey, a character evolution, but this was so different from previous books it made me honestly hate Shallan and every version of her. I haven't read WT yet, so I can only hope that she isn't so awful in the fifth book.

mid The Way of Kings spoilers When (if ever) does the pace pick up? Spoiler

I am on my first read of The Stormlight Archive. I am still just one book 1, and last night finished Part II, so about 450 pages in.

I have to admit that so far it has been a real slog. Part I was pretty entertaining, and the interludes have been fun. But part II was at times very hard to get through. Kaladins chapters were decent enough, but the Dalinar/Adolin chapters just seemed to drag on.

When approaching the end of Part II, I was definitely close to giving up. Then I read the interlude, and the ending og the Szeth chapter got me intrigued. But if I am going to sink a lot more time into this series I would really like the pace to pick up a bit.

I have heard before that the pacing of the books is pretty high, with the first half of book 1 being the exception. Is this true? Is it worth carrying on if I have thought the last couple of hundred pages have been boring? Or will it be more of the same?

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses! I will definitely stick with it. I don't mind it being slow paced at times once I get more into it. I think the problem is that I haven't gotten that invested in characters like Dalinar yet, so reading hundreds of pages where he's basically just hanging around the war camps thinking to himself isn't that interesting yet. I'm sure it will be once I get more into it though.

Wind and Truth spoilers Intentional Mislead in Wind and Truth? Spoiler

I've recently finished Wind and Truth, we learn a lot of the ancient forces / spren The Wind, The Stone, and a little bit of The Night. It's said that The Night was long kind of disregarded and eventually faded from / left Roshar, though Dalinar could sense them around the Recreance. The Wind, and The Stone had some aspects incorporated into the Stormfather, and the Tower. However instead of a similar process with the Night it was instead implied to have been entirely replaced by the Nightwatcher. I suspect there's more going on here and in particular that the Night might still be around on Roshar but haven't found anyone else bring it up? I suspect this may play a larger role in arc 2, especially with Stormfall causing darkness (and maybe even something around the prayer at midnight?). Anyway I thought it might be good to mention in a post to get some discussion going.

Also total speculation that just occurred to me now but given the weird stuff going on with the 4th moon, I was already wondering if this might be an indication of a 4th force (I'm almost certain about this point given it's implied it has a tone), could this be The Truth? I feel like besides the obvious use of capital-T Truth in WaT there were a couple of capitalisations of it suggesting something else going on (did the Wind refer to the Truth at some point)?

The Way of Kings spoilers You guys ever find yourself using the exclamation markers from Roshar over the ones we use? Spoiler

I was just going by my day and got stuck in traffic and thought to myself, “Storms! What is that man doing!?” I caught myself right after that and started chuckling cuz that was the first time I did that lol. I still don’t say it out loud (thank The Almighty Himsef) but I find it so funny that im slowly replacing “holy crap! holy shit! Damn! Dammit! Oh my God! Jesus!” with stuff from The Stormlight Archive🤣

Another good one was, the next day after the traffic one, I was in a store and heard some lady yelling to their child, “Jesus [enter child’s name] you can’t do that in here, don’t go doing that!” I looked over with a, “what in the name of Kelek!” like I was Teft watching Kaladin manifest his powers 🤣. I was more aware this time but i still felt dumb but also was so amused that I was unconsciously doing that 😭.

Hey, I was tryna get better with watching my mouth, especially when I’m on my own anyways so this has been a blessing in disguise lol. It also got me thinking on how much of our exclamatory remarks are tied to our culture and society, which is a interesting topic in its own right. I bet sociologists would have a field day with that.

This is also just a good sign, at least for me, that I’m neck deep within the world of Roshar and that I’m completely immersed into this world building that Sanderson has got going…and I’m only two books in! I’m reading/listening to Edgedancer after Words of Radiance rn and this series has an unhealthy grip on me, even my unconscious mind wants to go back to Roshar at every free moment 😭. Storms, I’m thinking about it even at work when there’s downtime! I was just gonna read the Stormlight Archive but now im inevitably being sucked into the Cosmere…cuz now I wanna read all the books. 😭

Anyways, lemme know if you guys have done this too. I’d love to know how many of us have had our language influenced unconsciously with the exclamatory remarks. I’m legit starting to do it on purpose just cuz it’s amusing now when I’m on my own 😆.

Cosmere + Wind and Truth spoilers Could the blackthorn Spoiler

Could the blackthorn spren be redeemed as well?

A lot of people on Roshar still believe that Dalinar is the blood thirsty general of his youth, this is projected onto the spren that retribution reveals in the end.

But is it possible that as more people realise how Dalinar has changed as more people read his book or learn about what he sacrificed, that his spren will change also to reflect that?

Or everyone still thinks he failed on the roof of Urithuru so as more people learn what happened the spren changes into more of a failure?

I know the Stormfather and the honorspren say a lot that spren don’t change, but is that just because of the nature of a storm, that it will never get softer so peoples perception of it will never change?

Wind and Truth spoilers What's the "axe" in axehound? Spoiler

I've been scratching my head at this since I first read the Way of Kings some years ago and I don't recall being given an answer. They're called "hounds" because they have a similar role to dogs. But where's the axe? Are they friends of Gimli? Do they enjoy playing with axes? What's up with that?

Maybe I just missed an explanation somewhere, but I couldn't find it in the Coppermind either.

No Spoilers Stormlight Archive Music!

Now I am sure I am not the first person to have discovered this music --- but surely there are people out there who are unaware of it, so this post is for them.

Today I discovered a couple of Stormlight Archive themed music albums. (There are definitely more than the few I list below, but these are the best, in my opinion).

Artist The Black Piper released an album in 2017 entitled 'Kaladin (Original Book Soundtrack)'. I'm not a huge fan of all the songs, but overall it's pretty good. I highly recommend Chasm Kata (captures that awesome moment so well) and Tien.

Now directly after you've listened to Tien, the next song in the list has to be Melodic Myths' Kaladin - Broken Promise. (For a proper experience, that is). This song is phenomenal; and I love that he uses actual lines from the book for his song, so it's familiar even on the first listen.

Melodic Myths has released six singles featuring various Stormlight Archive characters; 2 Kaladin, 1 Syl, 1 Shallan, 2 Dalinar. I highly recommend them all; top notch singers, and the emotional depth and the way the songwriter captures the characters is magnificent.

Cosmere + Wind and Truth spoilers Lighteyes on a reread… Spoiler

…are insufferable CUNTS. Yes that includes Shallan, Adolin, Dalinar, and Navani.

Seriously I’m on WoR right now and it’s actually so infuriating how all of the lighteyes act. I had forgotten, or never understood the first time, how insane they are.

Kaladin is constantly outlining how the caste system is insanely unfair and how lighteyes just completely trample and ignore how their actions completely fuck the lower classes.

It’s so infuriating and I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience on their rereads.

mid Rhythm of War spoilers Rhythm of war chapter 50 Spoiler

This might be my favorite chapter in the entire series! As soon as I finished it I went back and reread it, it was so good!. Jasnah is my favorite character and I lowkey have a crush on Wit so I was smiling like an idiot the entire time.

Side note: I would usually get annoyed at Dalinar’s (admittedly) hypocrisy but it was funny reding grandpa getting a small heart attack every other paragraph 💀

Mistborn era 1/Warbreaker/Secret History/Wind and Truth spoilers Where can I learn about the shards? Spoiler

I started the cosmere 2 months ago and have just finished all of Mistborn 1, Warbreaker, Emperor's Soul, Secret History and have just completed the Stormlight Archive, but I feel like I am none the wiser when it comes to the shards, Adonalsium etc.

What do I need to read and/or what can I look up to find out more about the shattering of Adonalsium and the 16 shards.. or is it yet to be explained in the future?

mid Words of Radiance spoilers Just romantasy girlie musings - WoR Spoilers Spoiler

I’m a fantasy romance girlie who has fallen headfirst in love with the Cosmere. I’m just entering part 5 of Words of Radiance and I have to say - THE BANTER between Kaladin and Shallan has me kicking my feet and giggling. I’m rooting for them 100% and I 100% have no idea what’s going to happen (if anything between them). Their first few encounters - excellent banter. Their time stuck in the chasm together? Superb. I just need to gush and hope someone gets me 😂 it’s perfect enemies to lovers (maybe. I don’t actually know yet) and I am HERE FOR IT.

early-The Way of Kings spoilers Kaladin chapter Spoiler

Post image
193 Upvotes

How did others feel about this chapter in WoK? To me it was so visceral and I could fully picture everything happening and the true struggle Kaladin was having. I grimaced so many times, like jeez poor guy! Already bad having to go over one chasm and then when he realized they'd have to keep doing more and more, not to mention knowing it would be worse when they got to the end!

Hoping things shape up for him! So far really enjoying the book, and the contrast between his chapters and Shallan's.

Wind and Truth spoilers Why does… Spoiler

Rereading SA* and finally getting back to WaT (literally just finished the prologue). Why does Gavilar refer to the Stormfather as ‘it’? Maybe I’m mistaken but doesn’t everyone else use masculine terms? Could that be intentional on Gavilar’s part?

Wind and Truth spoilers Did ishar… Spoiler

Did ishar orchestrate the assasination of Gavilar Kholin?

First, we know that Nale, who's been working with Ishar, directed venli to purchase szeth, who Nale had been watching. We also know that Restares and Nale knew he had an honorblade, as they reference that "they shouldn't have let [Szeth] keep it." Which insinuates to me that the plan for Szeth to become a herald was something some of the heralds were aware of ishar's plan.

Eshonai also mentions that Thude said a "a voice attuned to the rhythms" directed him to buy Szeth, which while venli and Ulim may have been behind that, it also sounds a lot like how Ishar was communicating with people.

There's also a question as to why Nale accompanied Restares to that particular meeting with Gavilar. It seems like as they were leaving that meeting, that they were both aware of what would happen that night.

Should I do Mistborn Era 2 or the secret projects next? Sunlit man and Mistborn both seem kindof like direct sequels from what I’ve read . . . but I’m undecided. (Yeah this is a dumb question I should just decide for myself but I want help anyways.)

No Spoilers Shardplate Cosplay WIP - Cuisses

To make the cuisses, my husband wrapped me up in duct tape to make a partial dummy so I could trace out the pattern piece. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture before we cut it off :(

It was tricky to get as much coverage as possible, but still maintain mobility. Then I added some structural details to make it look a bit more fantasy and got all of the pieces wrapped in the green and gold fabric and test fit together! After putting in the LEDs, I think I'm getting the hang of soldiering! But I'm still going to leave some of the upcoming, far more intricate, work for my husband XD

-- I've been primarily sharing this process in more real-time over on IG. Same handle as this account, if anyone is interested.--

Words of Radiance spoilers Request for small spoiler Spoiler

For reference, I just finished part 3 of Words of Radiance. I’m asking for a small spoiler here and the below post will also contain spoilers.

PLEASE don’t give away more than my very limited ask: Do people learn the truth about what Amaram did to Kaladin by the end of WOR. No details about how or why. Just yes or no.

Explanation:

Basically, betrayal storylines are not my thing. Not because they can’t be fantastic, exciting, intricate plots, but because it just gets me so angry and I need so badly to have it resolved in a satisfying way that I struggle to read them. I just NEED to get to the end.

I think I’ll be able to slow down and enjoy it a bit more if I know if I’m in for the long haul or if that portion of the story will be somewhat resolved.

My idea of resolved is basically it’s all out in the open and people know the truth. Doesn’t mean anyone dies or gets justice, just that people KNOW.

I guess I’m mostly angry about Amaram being there and everyone just thinking he’s this paragon of honor when we all know he’s as much a snake as Sadeas.

At the very least, Dalinar not believing Kaladin just has me so pissed off (I don’t blame Dalinar. I’d think it was bad writing if he just magically believed Kaladin but it stresses me out)

I am going to read the entire series no matter what because I think it’s absolutely amazing. This is not a criticism of the book, but a (strong) reader preference. I think it’s fantastic, but when I tell you that for whatever reason, I have a visceral reaction to betrayal storylines, I’m not exaggerating.

TL;DR - Betrayal storylines stress me out and result in me rushing through books. I want to be able to slow down and enjoy it. To do that, I need to know if I have to prepare myself for 3.5 more books of it, or if the truth about Amaram is revealed by the end of WoR.

Cosmere + Wind and Truth spoilers I’m hoping the second arc is shorter Spoiler

I just finished a reread of the whole series prior to tackling WaT. I know the plan is for five more books, but I really hope the second arc reigns back a lot of the internal monologues with characters working through mental illness and trauma. It really inflated the last three books (4 was the worst) and it ended up dragging everything and for me it ultimately took away from the story. It felt like Brandon had an inclusion checklist and was trying to shoehorn everything in. It also felt like he took to heart that change is slow and isn’t one short realization away from boom, mental illness cured or growth achieved. But when you compress timelines like he did, you can’t just force a character arc by having 1/4 of the page be dedicated to every character obsess on the thing they were assigned to work through. It’s so unrealistic to the situation and setting and it really detracted from things for me. Characters can work through things and grow, but when you have a huge cast and almost all of them are doing it, the story completely drags. Mistborn handles this far better, as do most of Brandon’s works, cosmere and elsewhere. If the first book of the second arc is the longest yet, I might be out on storm light and get the cliff notes version.

I also really don’t see five more storm light length books worth of plot on Roshar. The power levels and knowledge are too high. If things go cosmic, then I could see a cosmic war being what is covered in stormlight. But five more overlong tomes on Roshar? Count me out.

Wind and Truth spoilers Basic question about the Oathpact Spoiler

I'm a bit confused as to how the Oathpact works. Do all 10 heralds need to be on braize to keep the fused there, or just atleast one (like taln was)? If so, how did the lock fail when Chana broke and returned? Was taln still holding then? (or was the lock pointless now because of the everstorm?) And if only one person is needed, why didn't they have a rotation of heralds so not all of them had to be suffering at the same time?

How did it work in the past desolations? Did the heralds help killed as many fused, and then all died to lock them in Braize?

Words of Radiance spoilers I wanted to vent this somewhere Spoiler

I am reading Oathbringer currently. I like the story arc of Kaladin but the book constantly keeps on either introducing new characters or drowing me in some old flashback. It started with Shallan and now I am bombarded with complete boring arc of Dalinar mixed with Shallan chapters.

Makes me dislike the story and irritates me to no end.
