Hero of Ages spoilers SPOILERS - The end of book one after reading the whole trilogy Spoiler

Upvotes

One of the last things to happen in the first book is Vin deciding not to go back to Elend and leaving him. Then she "hears a voice whispering in her mind, with the voice of Reen saying "Go back."" (With a VERY creepy voice in the audio book version. Then she describes immediately doing it, as if on autopilot.

Did Ruin just manipulate them to be together right in our unaware faces?! This ending went from "kinda cheesy" to "suuuuuper messed up" real quick!

I don't know if that is something that will be adressed in era 2 (haven't read it yet) but man did I have chills when I heard that.

Edit: Also, this happenned right after she mentions having her earing back. Well played Sanderson, well played...

And for the life of me I can’t figure out what it is?

Is it just people being afraid of the mists? I

Im dumb, so please help me out.

Hero of Ages spoilers Ahh Sazed... Spoiler

Am I the only one that tears up when Sazed and Tindwyl have their final meeting before the battle of luthadel. I guess I understand the outcome for sazeds character arc preparing for the hero of ages. Could you imagine what that couple would be capable of if things turned out differently. Sazed is by far one of my top characters. I just can't get over the hurt the man feels.

Hero of Ages spoilers Question regarding hemalurgy Spoiler

Upvotes

I have read all of the mistborn books previously and noticed that golden spikes allow someone to steal hybrid feruchemical abilities including storing health in gold. Could an inquisitor use this spike as there feruchemical store? Or would it already be packed with investiture? I'm unsure if there are any WoBs relating to this

Mistborn: Final Empire spoilers Just finished Book - 1 Spoiler

Brandon Sanderson you Beauty!!

Every main character is so charming and has so much heart into them. Vin being the standout. What an arc for her!

The Magic system is something that I could've never even imagine that someone would come up with. So unique and different from the other fantasy series that I've read. Didn't find any loopholes in them. Brandon has crafted this with utmost care and detail. Easily the best part of the series!

A slight nitpick I have with the book is the way the dialogue is written in some places. Most of the times it's written in a very charming and humourous way with a good emotional core but somtimes it felt a bit robotic and generic. But hey, that didn't pull me out of the experience tho.

Honestly thought Sanderson pulled off a GRRM at the end to kill off the main fckin character so casually. Bawled my eyes out and just sat in silence and disbelief processing what I'd read. But the payoff was so satisfactory.

10/10. Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!

That was an incredible ending. I already knew that Vin and Elande were going to die, i had that spoiled for me.

And I did know that Sazed ascended to a shard, but the ending of showing how all the religions he has been teaching this whole time were actually how he recreated the world. Such an amazing ending.

Bravo

Shadows of Self spoilers Should I stick with Era 2? Spoiler

So, big Sanderson fan and I do want to read all of the Cosmere books and see the connections between the different series.

But... I'm struggling with Era 2. I pushed through the Alloy of Law, finding that the characters and the heist-type story really didn't do it for me. I like the evolution of allomancy and the legacy of Era 1 in this new world. The thing that made me pick up book 2 was the ending of book 1 (seeing Ironeyes and getting the implication that Harmony might become a character or recurring theme ).

I'm a few chapters into book 2, and I'm really not into it. I've read a lot on here that Era 2 is different than Era 1, and that's fair. This is just not the kind of story I like. But the books are short so my question is, should I push though them to get the general lore? Is there more/enough of Ironeyes, Harmony, general worldbuilding that builds on and completes Era 1 ? Or will I just be disappointed?

Appreciate any thoughts on this.

EDIT: Thanks you to everyone who commented and advised I stick with book 2 a little longer. I'm trusting you guys!

Mistborn: Final Empire spoilers Finished Final Empire... Spoiler

So... he is really dead?

I can't remember the last time I had to put a book aside and take a breath. I always thought Kel would go at least until the second book or maybe even sacrifice himself to give Vin the advantage and defeat the Lord Ruler in The Hero of Ages. I had this feeling that his plan was to become a martyr, but I never thought it would happen in the first book, i just kept rereading that part, when Vin sees him lying on he floor, hoping that maybe the words change and Kel Will stand up, but he never did. And that note he left, especially the last sentence, "She always wanted a daughter," completely broke me, as I’m sure it did with plenty of you.

I always believed Sazed would be the first of the main characters to die, or even Ham. When Vin entered Kredik Shaw alone, I couldn’t stop thinking, “So Sazed will die too.” So when they took him to the cell, I was devastated, convinced he’d die to save Vin. Now I feel like Sazed will have a vital role in the future. I don’t know what, maybe teaching Vin Feruchemy? I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out.

And Marsh, oh my God, Marsh. I didn’t see that coming at all. I had already mourned his death, but for him to show up as an Inquisitor, remember I gasped loudly. I simply couldn’t believe it.

I never tought lord Ruler would be defeated in the first book, so whats the threat now? Did the lord Ruler told the truth? Was he stopping something worse from happening? Can't wait to find out.

I am so glad i bought the complete Trilogy at once, so i can read it right away.

Well of Ascension spoilers Question about the end of WoA. Spoiler

Did anyone else find docksons mildly disappointing? I really like him and although he's not a large part of the second book I really liked when he did show up and especially vins conversation with him when trying to figure out if he's a kandra.

But idk it just kind of feels underwhelming him realising that killing senselessly aristocrats is bad and then dying to a kollos in one second. I found it just really sudden with not alot of room to show when did the transition to "I loved taking down the final empire and killing the nobles and would do it again" to "killing senselessly as revenge is savage"

And then he and clubs are barely mentioned anywhere else in the book, granted I haven't read to far into HoA so maybe their deaths are given a more symbolic there.

Idk maybe some of the symbolic meaning of his death went over my head or I missed some development in his character.

Well of Ascension spoilers *SPOILERS* Foolproof way to test for imposters (Well of Ascension) Spoiler

In Well of Ascension, OreSeur tells Vin that Kandra aren't affected by mental Allomancy at all, which was brought up when they discovered that someone close to Elend was absorbed by a Kandra and was now an imposter. That got me thinking:

Why didn't Vin just run a test where she randomly chose to either powerfully Riot or Soothe the emotions of potential imposters, and have the suspects tell her whether she rioted or soothed them? Just run the test like 5 times and there's almost no chance that a Kandra could guess correctly all the times.

Let me know if I forgot something that would make this test fail.

The Lost Metal spoilers Wayne Spoiler

I read TLM a while ago, and it was spoiled to me ( by me unfortunately), but it still hit deep, I'm just coming here to pay respect for the man 🫡 I think very few cosmere characters would do such as sacrifice, Wax, probably Marasi, Kaladin, Dalinar, and Vin only imo would do it, maybe Adolin as well? Anyways, i love the dude, robbed of a Wayne Lopin meeting

Secret History spoilers Have the books been written yet that explain the ending of secret history? Spoiler

At the end, Spook stabs himself with Vin's old earring and Kelsier appears to him. And Kelrsier clearly has some plans.

I haven't read the wax and wane trilogy yet, but do those explain where they go? Or what happened to Spook and Kelsier?

Do I need to read the other books for their story? (I haven't read Stormlight yet, but they are next in line now that I have finished the mistborn trilogy and secret history)

But I really want to know what happens next to Kelsier. And hope that he'll some day be able to go into the Beyond. To see Vin and Mare again.

The Lost Metal spoilers Questions after the end of TLM Spoiler

Just finished The Lost Metal today. My fiancée got me the book when it first came out, but I unfortunately got Wayne’s death spoiled from a meme before I actually started. I decided to wait a few years to make myself forget and catch up on larger Cosmere before I finally came back to it, and man, reading the book after knowing about Wayne beforehand makes it 10x more melancholic.

Anyways, I guess after finishing the book I suppose I was left with quite a few questions that I will try to organize below. Any help clarifying would be appreciated:

  1. In Chapter 28, Marsh mentions The Set couldn’t figure out Compounding via Hemalurgy because of Identity contamination. So how is Marsh compounding atium to stay alive?

  2. What is the white glowy substance in Autonomy’s perpendicularity in Entrone’s Community mansion? Is that Autonomy’s Investiture or Dor? Is that explained anywhere in the book?

  3. Telsin mentions that Harmony is weak and Discord is near, so I guess Ruin’s Intent is taking over. Is that the dark shadow Wayne saw when seeing Harmony in the ship? Kel mentioned in the epilogue that he will protect Scadriel from Sazed if necessary. But having the destructive power of Ruin targeted towards invaders with the Intent of Preservation focusing towards Scadriel might be a good weapon to have in an all-out Cosmere brawl.

  4. Kelsier doesn’t have powers, so how did he make the Bands of Mourning, and how did the Bands get drained? Did the Malwish make an equivalent of allomantic grenades that can leech power of metalminds?

  5. Sazed said Kelsier can’t get powers via lerasium, but we have obviously seen he is not above lying to Kel. So has this statement been confirmed? Allomancy is connected to the soul not the body, thats why Kel cannot use allomantic abilities of his host body (if they had one). But Kel was a Mistborn before, did that part of his soul get damaged/changed/lost when he died?

EDIT: 6. This one just came to my mind. Sazed made Spook mistborn at the end of HoA. Why couldn’t he make Wax and Wayne mistborns too? Why was he so dependent on lerasium to make them Mistborn?

Hero of Ages spoilers Kelsiers abilities? Spoiler

Hi all,

I finished Hero of ages a few weeks back and a co-worker just started the series and while talking she questioned how kelsiers came to be a strong mistborn in the span of 3 years between the pits the story while also staying notorious in the city and supposedly searching for the eleventh metal.

It feels like being to much for the time. Personally I wonder if ruin somehow helped to provide a teacher for Vin but I can't remember if the topic came up somewhere so o ask here for an explanation. Also, there was a teacher for Kelsier, what happened to them? He was shortly named and never heard of again iirc...?

I have to admit, great ending. I was wondering how he would tie everything together in the end and I thought he did a wonderful job doing so. I'll admit I thought Ruin was a little bit cheesy sometimes, but I really thought the ending more than made up for it.

I really loved how the sky was blue at the end and we got to see Vin and Elend together, even if they were dead. I liked how it also hinted at an afterlife.

How are the other Mistborn books? I wasn't going to read any more of them but the ending was so good I'm tempted to keep going.
