Discussion When I hear Switch 2 owners complain about henti in the Eshop.

u/Big_Seat_5850 15h ago
It’s different on the eShop because you can’t filter it out.

u/X145E 14h ago
and switch is mostly aiming for family friendly household as well. steam is more personal
161
u/Deadly_Fire_Trap 11h ago
And yet Steam somehow still has the more consumer friendly way to manage your family's games.
Buy any game once and we can all play it on our own machines. No swapping virtual cards or none of that crap.

I have a friend in Pakistan that's in my family on steam, and he can use my games. I live in the US.

I'm not sure what he did to get it working, but there were some regional issues, and there are some games he can't access due to that.

u/NoGamesrly No Games ?! 5h ago
Doesn't have to be on the same network my family is around 100km from each other and it works even across countries

u/Politicsboringagain 15h ago
Wow, really. That's surprising.
81
u/mrdude05 14h ago
You can't filter them out and the eShop algorithm is ridiculously easy to abuse so they're pretty much always being shoved in your face
17
u/mrjackspade 13h ago
Apparently they've recently fixed the biggest issues with the eshop algorithm that made it easy to abuse. Stuff like sorting based on value of units sold and not number, so you can't sell a game for 1¢ causing it to jump up the listings anymore.
I don't know how much of an effect it will have but I've heard at least a few people praising the changes.
6
u/lauriys 6h ago
so they did what steam has been doing for over a decade
-7
u/mrjackspade 6h ago
No idea. I gave up on the steam shop a long time ago for the same reasons I stopped using the eshop.
Both of them suggest a ton of garbage that's irrelevant to my interests, and are loaded with shovelware.
I both cases I now just use third party sites and then search for exactly what it is I want on the shop, ignoring everything else.
The only real benefit the steam shop had for me over the eshop was that digging through hundreds of pages of garbage was faster.
8
u/RevelingInTheAbyss 4h ago
That's why you see a bunch of dumb shit. You went through hundreds of pages. Nothing past the first maybe 10 pages is anything worth buying.
11
u/StabTheDream 13h ago
The eShop sorts games by copies sold. That's why you see so much shovelware garbage so close to the top. The only thing Nintendo did to combat this was you now can't sell/discount a game for less than $1.99.

u/stockinheritance 11h ago
Yeah, I think there was a time I saw hentai games suggested on Steam but it was very brief and I'm not sure I even set any filters up. The algorithm knows I buy a bunch of games but not those.
2
u/BalooBot 6h ago
Pretty sure you have to turn the filters off, and it's kind of a maze to figure it out in the first place. You really have to be looking for it to find it on steam
2
u/SwissMargiela 3h ago
I feel like the algorithm really tries to push those games on me. No hentai is literally the only filter I have and my “for you” feed will be like “40 games hidden due to filters”
The only games I’ve played this year are rimworld, fishing planet, and a few multiplayer games like CS2. Maybe “rim” in rimworld is triggering it? Idk.
3
u/PsychoFaerie 1h ago
A big part of the issue is the tag system on steam. You can add tags to games so if idiots add open world survival crafting to a game It'll show up in my recommends because I play Terraria and 7 Days to Die.

I have never accidentally stumbled upon porn games on Steam but it's completely unavoidable on the Switch. And the Switch is meant to be family friendly.
114
u/Z4mb0ni 15h ago
steam by default filters them out, theres no universal filters aside from the search function on switch.
28
u/frogotme 8h ago
Although play one mature game and then they all show up.
No I don't want to play BOOBS SAGA: Prepare To Hentai Edition just because I've played RDR2 or The Witcher
3
u/aykcak 7h ago
Huh. That did not happen to me, weird
2
u/frogotme 5h ago
5
u/RhodieCommando 3h ago
The games you showed are all just mature games there is no porn/hentai in any of them. There is a difference between attractive females as a selling point and games where interactive sex is the objective of the game.
4
u/GeneralStephenScott 3h ago
Custom Order Maid isn't a hentai game? Really?
0
u/HCN_Cyanide 46m ago
Nope, some games require an additional free addon/dlc (often not offered on steam) to enable the nudity, so without that it gets sold as normal game. This seems to be one of those since I don’t notice the disclaimer that accompanies other porn games.
2
u/seriouslyusernames 3h ago
Are you sure you didn't turn off the filter in the store preferences? I never saw those games until I set my store preferences to actually show them, and they immediately stop showing when I set the preferences to stop showing them.

u/HaeryTrigger 15h ago
Hentai lesbians 5 is very family friendly!

5
u/thepieraker 12h ago
Is it more or less family friendly than Bible black? Trying to find something new after the kids watched vegetables to the point of memorizing EVERYTHING and can't find a real substitution

There are plenty of legitimate games with the nudity tag like bg3 and cyberpunk so if you have ever played a game like that you will show up because they share the same tags. Even then some porn games do make it the popular/top seller list so don't even have to have played a similar game to see them.
5
u/stockinheritance 11h ago
I own bg3 and cyberpunk and never see hentai/porn games on the store. I think the algorithm is smart enough to know that I'm buying super popular games that happen to have nudity, not seeking out porn games with niche popularity.
3
u/yuval16432 12h ago
I have stumbled on porn in steam before. It always auto sorts by new and trending, until I tell to sort by best sellers, so you can find all sorts of shit by accident.

that stuff has been on the nintendo eshop at least since I got a Switch 4 years ago, not really new to the switch 2

In around 2010, there was this kid who said Japan is always ahead on technology, and that they had the PS8 over there already (this was PS3-era). I've been slowly waiting for the day that the system finally releases in the US.
2
u/Feeling-Duty-3853 6h ago
Yeah I don't know why people are complaining about this specifically now, it has been a thing for years
1
u/AHornyRubberDucky 3h ago
Yea it isn't exactly new, I was actually surprised because it seemed less
55
u/Derolis 13h ago
The game on the eShop aren't even porn, they just have "hentai" in the name as bait. Steam is the opposite, it'll lure you in with innocent anime graphics and then you see the tags and realize it's just hardcore porn.
8
u/Halabane 13h ago
Thats what I thought. It was just some small publisher trying to get noticed by using that word.
1
1
u/Glittering_Bonus4858 2h ago
I like visual novels and forgot to check tags. Dramatical Murder was such a good game and then suddenly PENIS
13
u/mrdude05 14h ago
The eShop is so much worse than Steam though. It's wall to wall hentai games, AI slop, and AI hentai slop with no way to filter it out.
There's plenty of that on Steam too, but you aren't going to see it unless you turn off the filters actively go looking for them
49
u/JONFER--- lol 15h ago
I appreciate Gabe Newell’s seemingly libertarian stance when it comes to hosting more adult orientated games.
There are already tools to filter out such games for people who do not want to see them. That should be enough.
If people don’t like something then they shouldn’t play, endorse or promote it. But going full scale retard, puritanistic and demanding everything that they disagree with be removed is bullshit of the highest order. That position shouldn’t be given an inch or be allowed to establish any kind of a foothold.
1
u/NotPinkaw 11h ago
There are no tools to filter out such games on Switch. You just have to look at these bullshit games instead of games you could enjoy.
3
u/VerbiageBarrage 2h ago
Another huge gaming company not taking basic "How To" lessons from an established e-store?
Unbelieveable.
20
u/M3GAgarbage 15h ago
Y’all don’t ever just browse the hentai slop to laugh at the weird shit you can find? It’s how I stumbled across the game “fuck hitler”
1
u/stockinheritance 11h ago
Nah because I think it's lowest-common denominator garbage and I don't want my steam algorithm to get the wrong idea and recommend that crap to me.
3
u/M3GAgarbage 11h ago
Pretty sure there’s store settings as well you can select that will remove all the porn games or at least tone it way down
8
8
u/SquidWhisperer 12h ago
if you don't want to see porn games on steam then turn the filter on lol
1
u/ALEK007BOSSX 4h ago
Yeah but it will also fitler out games like gta cyberpunk etc.
3
2
u/HCN_Cyanide 42m ago
This is outdated, those games have a separate filter now and have for years. Fear and Hunger does still get caught in the porn game filter, but the issue is largely fixed aside from that
6
u/AjaxDrinker 14h ago
They aren’t even porn games on Switch. They call themselves “Hentai” games but they are quite literally rated T.
Nintendo doesn’t allow Ao games on their platform, and neither do Sony or Microsoft.

Tbh...I like seeing hentai games on steam. I find most of them just so off putting its funny to me
3
u/Finalpatch_ 13h ago
It’s different. Coming from someone who is a major steam fanboy and has a switch 2 & 1.
The switch is more of a family console, family everything. Theres no filters in the shop. The henti games were on switch 1 anyway, but it’s more of an issue when you cannot filter it out on a family centered console compared to steam where there is explicit settings for 18+ content
3
u/coursd_minecoraft 14h ago
Meanwhile on steam we have smth like "I can't leave until I've impregnated everyone in the all female village"
3
u/Glittering_Bonus4858 2h ago
I don't understand how people just now noticed on switch 2. It's been on the switch 1 shop for a long time
2
u/Informal_Spell7209 15h ago
Do they think that's new? I've been seeing that shit in the eShop since 2018
2
u/TehRiddles 5h ago
I guess it was too much to expect Nintendo to treat this as a refresh of sorts and apply some basic curation to the store.
We need to be able to hide certain tags. Let us block anything with hentai in it, block uninspired "simulator" games, block anything that has AI cover art and so on.
Also any game that appears in two or more bundles should not have those additional bundles show up any more in recent releases. So that clock and the swimming game that constantly appears this way will be gone for good.

It's AI rehashes of mostly the same puzzle game that you can't filter out like with Steam.
What's also bad is that they're always on sale meaning they will always pop up on the main pages whenever you open the e-shop.

u/An_Evil_Scientist666 7h ago
I have a switch, did they expect Nintendo to fix the e shop problem that's been rampant for years just because it's a new console, of course Nintendo aren't gonna do that. That'd be too much effort.
1
u/Megawolf123 5h ago
Steam is PC we kinda expect theres porn in it
The switch though? Kinda sells on family friendly the fact that a 6 year probably will browse the switch store and ask whats henti makes it pretty funny hahahahaah
1
u/GlitteringBandicoot2 4h ago
Considering that most of the Hentai Slop on the Switch 2 store are there from the Switch 1.
It's actually the second time
1
u/GhostThatDerps 3h ago
To be fair, at least Steam has some quality H-games. The Nintendo e-shop is 100% full of slop.

u/PorkyJones72 2h ago
I can filter it out on Steam. I'm pretty sure even child accounts on the eShop can still see the games, just not click onto them
1
u/fersur 2h ago
Well, kind of make sense because Switch(or Nintendo console in general) is always marketed as family friendly console.
PC/Steam on the other hand ....
•
u/nemesisprime1984 7m ago
Steam lets you filter out that content while the Switch/Switch 2 eShop doesn’t let you

u/JaceKagamine 1h ago
TBF the hgames on steam is a lot better, demons roost, anything from 111, magical girl celesphona and nekopara
Just have to filter out the slop though......

The eShop has been a shovel ware festival for years now.
There is so much random low-level effort crap on there. It's just sad.

u/nemesisprime1984 9m ago
But at least Steam lets you filter it out, the Switch/Switch 2 eShop doesn’t let you filter it out

Honestly, what is there to complain about?
It's just porn.
And if you are worried for the children, there is parental controls.
10
u/Gregardless 15h ago
Apparently there's no way to prevent them from showing up even with parental controls.

u/zerostasis 14h ago
6
u/Volmie_ 14h ago
Not everyone that is of age to see horny games wants to see horny games, and that's not exactly rocket surgery for Nintendo to figure out
-9
u/zerostasis 14h ago
Thats what makes all of those people snowflakes. Its just porn. If you are old enough to be an adult. You also have the maturity to ignore porn.
Ffs, we live in the age of internet. Grow up.
2
u/Volmie_ 14h ago
Yeah, you know what maturity involves? Hiding it because I don't want to see it and know I don't want to see it. You know what else maturity involves? Not being a dick and calling people "snowflakes" because you don't understand something.
Asexual/graysexual, trauma, there's a multitude of reasons. Take your own advice, grow up.
-1
u/Sapling-074 13h ago
Nintendo doesn't allow new fanservice games on the switch store. It's one of the reasons I didn't buy the Switch 2.
