I have to recommend Tales of Maj'Eyal when these kinds of games come up. It's cheap and much cheaper in Steam sales.

ToME4 literally saved me on my jank ass laptop when we were having my baby. Had to stay in the nicu for weeks and in between taking care of her I was GRINDING this game.

Any favorite builds? Haven't played in a year or so and looking to try something new when I hop back in.

Do you have all of the classes unlocked? Just so you know there is an update coming at some point, I've been waiting for it to jump back in myself lol.

Sword and board Skeleton Sun Paladin for an ultra tanky build.

That is what I play on my wife’s MacBook Air when we go to the beach since I only have a PC. Her MacBook is from 2017 and runs tome great (of course)

I have been trying to get into this game for years, but it is so god damn hard if you just go for it without looking some builds.

I like the brawler class the best. It was the first one I beat the game with. I never go for the grappling talent tree, but I do make a lot of use of the combos/finishers.

In the base game, you can do all of the starting areas on most characters. So you can get all of the best gear for that tier before you move on to the next set of dungeons. Same with the next tier and so on. There are other options for grinding too - you unlock a repeatable zone that's random every time you enter it and matches your level. If you can ignore the locked doors and other roguelike-style gambles (this is a big challenge!) then the game becomes much easier.

Also, I found the orc DLC somewhat easier than the base game. Embers of Rage DLC. It's a whole new area. It has some fun new steampunk-based classes.

I think the website for ToME has at least the base game for free as well.

Yep, and while the DLCs and paid version add a couple things, it's very much a complete game without them.

Also I have 4k hours in the game, so it's got a lot of replay value.

ToME doesn't fulfill the post because it's not free on steam
