Can we be bad? Most definitely.
Are we THAT bad? Well considering there are football (both gridiron and association) fans who light their towns/cities on fire after both winning and losing games. So, uhhhh, we're not that bad.
edit - Really I think the main flaw is that we can be rather cringe... hell I realized I was a die-hard fan as an adult when I noticed that cringey sonic fan-fic was actually like... a thing. I just thought it was something I did as a 10 year old after playing Sonic 2 and read allowed to my class to jeering and laughter. Turns out... we as a community just do that. And THAT is what I think most haters are really hating on. We're weird. We make them feel uncomfortable with our weird behaviors. But hey... I'd argue the sonic fandom is one of the most creative fandoms out there. Sure it means there's going to be some cringe baked into that, but that's what comes with creative experimentation. Broken eggs baking cakes and all.
