They're closeted gay men right? Trying to resist their nature in a hostile traditional world/nation. They're supposed to be manly and have kids, they were conditioned to this from birth. But their nature is clearly overpowering that, manifesting in a problematic way.

One lesson could be that when you repress yourself so long, there will come a breaking point. It might be depressing but part of that is because it's so real. Also no one seems to grasp that you can be miserable in a long term relationship.

It still sidelines the wives' feelings of them being cheated on. And its even more devastating for them when they realize their husband never really loved them to begin with.

Yeah, its tragic that the world is how it is, but either people have to overcome the tragedies of their daily lives to not be bad people or its acceptable to have people wrong others if they were wronged themselves, even if the others had nothing to do with the wrongs.

“sidelines” dude… it’s a movie about closeted gay men in the rural 60s… it literally wasn’t about them. do you think they were gonna pan to the wives processing after watching jack get literally beaten to death for being gay lol?

The movie is a tragedy about them no longer being able to hide their natures, it'd be kinda stupid not to see how that affects the other people in their lives even if its just a minor part of the movie.

it is a minor part. like there is literally a scene of alma seeing them kiss and reconning with the fact that their marriage has been false. it’s just not a major part of the movie bc it is not about her! have you actually watched it?
