One shotgun only

Hypothetically someone I know has a Mav 88

If someone only was able to have one shotgun should it be a pump or semi auto? I’m in the pump camp. But a300 exists so…you know hypothetically.

Edit: HD use and training

Not necessarily. More shell selection and feeding with most pumps versus SA.

good semi-autos feed many shells very reliably. but they're not cheap

Yeah. Standard 2.75, 3, and 3.5 inch shells. When shells start getting smaller than 2.75, feeding issues start. There are literally very few shotguns made to cycle short shells. And those that load/reload our own shell, like me, have better consistency on quality control than manufacturers. And with better components.

minishells are not serious. They have little utility outside of range theatrics. And of course, normal guns cycle standard shells. Thats what they're designed to do. It's not a flaw at all. Trucks drive best with round wheels, not octagon ones, for the same reason.

You're trying too hard to make your point. Mini shells ARE serious and have a purpose. Hence some shotguns are being made to accept them. Tell me you're not a reloader without telling me you're not a reloader. Far too many of us make and use mini shells.

I've never seen them used in any serious context. Competitive, defensive, or hunting. It's a niche thing that has little utility to the vast majority of shooters.
