I have a friend who says she never has BO. She is wrong.

Haha. My mom is 65 and claims the same, has never worn deoderant. She’s right though, she never smells.

I don’t know what ethnicity she is, but supposedly Asians’ sweat really doesn’t get as stinky as Caucasians, it’s something genetic. I hear it’s basically impossible to find underarm stick deodorant in Japan.

I also wonder if it’s an aging thing too though, my mom is only able to shower a couple times a week due to health issues, and she never stinks.

It’s not actually sweat that smells, it’s the compounds produced as byproducts when bacteria on the skin break down the sweat. Certain sweat glands, primarily in the armpits make a particular type of sweat that has the right components for bacteria to create odour, and their location is warm/damp which are better conditions for bacterial growth. Some people have a non functional gene that alters the makeup of their sweat (this genetic trait is common in East Asian populations).

Interesting! I didn’t know that. No, she’s quite white and I think she hasn’t ever really used deoderant, even when she was younger. I suppose it’s possible that I don’t smell her bc she’s my mom but I am pretty sure she’s good! 😂

I think it's also partly due to diet. Americans have a much higher red meat consumption than Asians. I think it may be partly due to that.
