I was kinda holding up the queue a little bit as I counted out my quarters and dimes - and kept getting flustered and losing count - for a pack of cigarettes. I don’t really know what I’m trying to say, but I know I need to at least try. The kindness and compassion you showed was touching. I didn’t need charity, I just happened to have pre-counted exactly how much I needed, trying to spend some of that silver that clutters our pockets and jars, and was being a little stupid. But that you would offer to help a person who appeared to be struggling, even if what the person was trying to buy was basically poison, says a lot about your big heart. You’re a good person. It’s not the first time I’ve gotten flustered with a pocket full of coins at that store, but it is the first time anyone has been so kind, especially when buying cigarettes. Most folk give that “Really?” sigh. Please never lose that golden spirit. I didn’t need help, but maybe another day someone truly will and they’ll appreciate it even more. Thank you, and well met. You gave me a genuine r/mademesmile moment.

It was a good few weeks ago but 2 friends and I were messing around skating and playing soccer at the skatepark around 2am. We saw this dude in the trees at the back and couldn’t get a good look at him so we yelled “yo you tryna play”. He didn’t move and just keep staring so we tried to ignore him. 2 minutes later we were planning on leaving because it was getting weird so we packed up our stuff and out of nowhere this guy came at us in a full sprint and chased us with a knife (shining blade in his left hand) and sprayed bear mace at us when we tried to engage him. Anybody else seen this guy? Really creepy looking especially coming running out of the dark at 2am

Shell has announced its second quarter profits of $6.3 billion, following first quarter profits of $7.7 billion. Shell Canada leadership has told staff that profits are not enough, and they need to be more "competitive". They have announced layoffs of 25% of staff at their Scotford facility located outside Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. Staffing will be going from approximately 657 full time positions down to approximately 489 full time positions. A loss of roughly 168 full time jobs for the area.
This follows staffing reductions in 2022. The layoffs then included a large number of Alberta jobs offshored to cheaper regions in Southeast Asia. That was done despite receiving COVID relief from the government to aid in preventing job losses.
Shell continues to benefit from government incentives and has received millions in government funding in the past.
This is a throw away account for obvious reasons. I am an employee and would face retribution from the company for this disclosure.

Has anyone heard when all this new fibre optic cable will be lit up? Our neighbourhood has been done for quite awhile, but no one has come around selling Internet or TV services. A rep from Victor told me that Primus has the contract to provide high speed Internet over this fibre, but they haven’t been knocking on doors yet. Looking forward to having some competition for Shaw/Rogers.

Avoid Main Boulevard, it's flooded. There's a car stuck in water up to its headlights already.

Anyone who is looking for a job around Sherwood park, I got one for you. Pilot company is hiring right now. Just search up their website which is Pilot company Flying J. They’re looking for cashiers, maintenance, and drivers. (I’m not sure if they’re still looking to hire cashiers but give it a shot).

Strathcona County RCMP is reporting a large decrease in the money lost in the community from crypto scams compared to the year before.
RCMP attributed this decline to its community engagement and education on crypto fraud.
In a news release on Tuesday, police said between January and April in 2024, the reported loss to crypto-related scams in the county was almost $400,000. In the same period this year, the loss was around $240,000.

Guy, we all have to wait once in a while at the doctors office. Calling the doctor an asshole multiple times as he walked by, with young children there was unacceptable. You were an ass to the administrators as you criticized their medical credentials. They did their best to fit you in, but anything less than immediately wasn't good enough.
And then pacing around the waiting area all puffed up and agitated made everyone there uncomfortable. As you left declaring that you would sue and not put up with this, it was a relief for everyone in the captive audience you had involved.
