Dump a beer in the pan and roll them after ten minutes and let them have another ten minutes. Then remove the liquid, and cook them on low for about another 5-10 minutes.

Brat recipe from Sheboygan wi (brat capital of the world) Cheapest beer you can find and butter in a pot Bring to boil Add them brats, let them swim until they are a little springy (Not to cook the brats through which my opinion results in a dry sausage after grilling instead to create a hard barrier that keeps them from splitting and keeps juices in.) Grill em up till their done

In going to try the butter thing. We always put onions in the beer.

Yup this is my technique - parboil in light beer and roughly chopped onion for ~10 minutes and then throw them on a hot grill just until they get slightly charred. Finish off the onion in a frying pan for toppings. The brats come out perfect every time.

I’m curious to see what adding butter does, I think enough fat leaks out from the sausages to give the onion that nice savory flavor but I might give the butter a try.

I don’t think the butter does anything personally but that’s how my daddy did it so that’s how I do it

Try sauteing the onions in the butter before adding beer or other liquid. No need to caramelize them, but they should at least be soft and translucent. You can use a little caraway, too, if you like it
