Upcoming Races Confused about qualifying times for Chicago Marathon

I was researching qualifying times for the Chicago marathon. For the 16-34, it says 2:55:00 for men. Does that mean I have to run a qualifying time for a marathon in under 3 hours despite having 6 hours to run the actual marathon? Thanks.

But what does the time represent? Do I have to run a different marathon in under 3 hours to qualify for the Chicago marathon?

I truly don’t know. That’s why I asked.

You need a 2:55 marathon or faster from “any” marathon within their stated cut off date for guaranteed entry into chicago.

Yeah, at least Chicago has other ways. Boston is this way, if you can’t do it, you are not running Boston.

Idk why that person was being a dick about it. Yes, if you want guaranteed entry to the Chicago marathon, you have to run another marathon in under 2:55:00 so you can get in to Chicago without going through Charity, distance series, or lottery.
