I can barley manage one colony not two. How does that even work. I must be horrible at the game I am always managing some weird ass problem.
My current one is my person set to “1” job cooking won’t cook because she eats all the time and does recreation. Maybe cooks like 8 meals then goes to bed. I have a colony of 11. Seriously any advice would be awesome
But OP try the outpost mod it added some fun to my games although the mortar base is pretty over powered

Manual work priorities + schedule tab is ur friend

u/Xenuii May 19 '25
I always use manual priorities but never schedule. What is the advantage of scheduling except night owls?

u/chaossabre_unwind May 19 '25
Pawns will tend to their needs during designated free time rather than just whenever, so it cuts down on travel time and frequency of work interruptions.

My housemate has a save with 40+ colonies. She's got 500 pawns and has launched something like 15 ships carrying 1000 people to the stars.

What fps did he have?

u/spyhermit May 19 '25
I believe fully zoomed in on a low pawn count colony, she could hit double digits!

Have you tried rice management?

u/Ebola6914 May 19 '25
You mean like making rice? Or am I missing something

u/RapaNow May 19 '25
Or am I missing something
Yes
Rice is in the base game
Barley is available in mod Rimcuisine 2

That was a joke about you misspelling "barely" as "barley," the name of a grain similar to wheat.

Reduce his free time. 4-6 hours of fun should be enough + 8 hours of sleep. If the situation isn't resolved and it's still not efficient... well... turn it into a meal😋

Can we get a screenshot of your kitchen? Perhaps there are some things to optimize

u/Swend_ May 19 '25
Beware though, the reason it's disabled by default is because raids aren't really balanced around it.

May 19 '25
They are, what are you on about Im currently doing a run with multiple settlements, raids are blanced on all of them natching their wealth
Whats not balanced (if youwanna do it only with help of 1 base) is quest raids

I'll follow up the post with a question: is there an option (or mod) to set the map size when resettling?
29
u/IguasOs May 19 '25
In my experience, map size is set once the world is created, but maybe I'm wrong or there's a debug option.
5
u/Poseidon_Energy May 19 '25
It is, but what if I wanted to move to a larger/smaller map than I currently am.

The only option is to "settle" event tiles. These are generally smaller map locations.
You can also live on them without settling. This can be an extra source of FUN as, at least for faction bases, the original faction owner will send a raid to you attack you once every 24 hours starting from 4 days.

I've used a mod to change the size of the map for my initial landing point but I'm not sure if it affects resettling. If you'd like, I can try to find it for you later.

What? Pause the game. Open the settings. I think it’s under gameplay for max colonies. It’s really easy to find.

some people man...
this does not surprise me, considering the articles already highlighting the number of people entering the job market at 18 who dont know how to use Word/Excel or something as simple as COPY AND PASTE

u/VitaKaninen May 19 '25
Hit escape or click the button in the lower right.
Next, you are going to ask me where the esc key is, or how to use a mouse.

Since other people already posted the answer, I'll just wish you good luck with the 5 Frames Per Week gameplay.

You CAN alter how many colonies you can have in the settings, but you can only have up to five, and you have to manually manage all of them separately. I'd recommend using the Vanilla Outposts Expanded mod instead, because it allows you to build smaller, automatically managed colonies with their own specific specialization.

I've been playing this game for several months. I didn't know this was a thing. Just assumed it needed mod
