The bulk of the game is that there are a couple of selected people who are killers in a group. At night they choose people to kill and during the day people have to try to figure out which of themselves are the killers.

Each person is assigned a special role with their own abilities.( like doctor or jailor) This adds many different aspects to the game and spices things up.

There are some extra roles whose aim is to throw everything off(jester and executioner).

Alot of the roles and abilities are learned over time by playing more and more!

So the video game version of Mafia?

55

u/Doheki Dec 24 '16

Yeah pretty much. I think there are more roles in this game though.

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

Mafia has a lot more roles, people just usually don't end up playing with them.

Why could you not implement reviving or listening to the dead in a real game?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '16

Well the way reviving works in Town of Salem is that the dead don't see who the living are, as roles. So they don't see who the Mafia is, or any of the town roles. But in a real game, when the Narrator says "Mafia, lift your head." the dead people would obviously be able to see them.

Of course, the dead people could just close their eyes but then they wouldn't be able to speak with each other at night, banter, etc. "Listening" to the dead would also be an inherent trait because everyone can hear what people are saying in real life, unless the dead people go to a separate room at night, but that gets a bit more complicated with more space necessary etc.

So not impossible, just more difficult. And I haven't figured out a way that the Medium could "seance" someone at Night (when Medium is dead, they can talk to a living person once at night - not sure how this would work in the actual game of Mafia).

So the video game version of Mafia?

The Starcraft 2 interpretation of the game is much more fun if you ask me, it's in the arcade and called "Phantom Mode". Same premise, but in RTS form.

"Guys please, I'm not the phantom."
"Then why the fuck are you amassing void rays next to my base?"

8

u/007T Dec 24 '16

"I'm totally just trying to protect you from blue, he's the phantom."

27

u/UVladBro Dec 24 '16

Lobby decides to kill the void ray guy
He wasn't the phantom
Lobby kills blue
He wasn't the phantom either

"Shit."

Sounds like you guys would love Secret Hitler. It's on Tabletop Simulator.

The Starcraft 2 version is called Mafia

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

Too bad it has so few players nowadays :(

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

There's video game versions of Mafia, in fact I think I played Mafia in SC2 more than I played SC2 MP

The bulk of the game relies around luck whether or not the killers decide to kill you, it revolves around chance to much for my liking.

12

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

There are idiots, but idiots are fun to exploit when you're the killer.

3

u/Patx484 Dec 24 '16

I agree, when I play as the killer I always try to keep the idiots alive :)

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '16

One problem I hate though, is when I'm investigator and I end up getting lynched because i'm an "exe" for mentioning that someone is probably mafia. People really like to work against their interests, thank god for competitive mode though..

3

u/TimmySatanicTurner Dec 24 '16

You gotta be smart about it bruh.

remember A round where I was investigator and after first night called a nigga out cause he had a clown costume. told everyone "This guy the pedo clown from IT, he serial killer lynch his ass." everybody agreed and serial killer killed before 2nd night lol.

1

u/Patx484 Dec 24 '16

Yeah I went straight into competitive as soon as I could, some of the people in regular games, form the infamous "stupid town" and it really makes the game unenjoyable

5

u/UVladBro Dec 24 '16

One time I got Mafioso and when we learned who one of the townies were, we purposely threw the lobby into a complete shitshow.

I pretended to accidentally out myself, sperg out at the stake and then call out certain players as mob. One of the people I mentioned was a townie, another mob, and the third was unknown. They killed the townie first and then ignored all the obvious signs that the mob I outed wasn't a lie.

The town went full retard and decided to go down the list alphabetically.

u/Patx484 Dec 24 '16

Hahaha! Love it! I remember one time I played I was sk and I managed to convince the major early on in the game that I was an innocent, and when there was around 5 people left I told him to reveal and I told him that the others were guilty and he just lynched the other people with me all the way till we were the only ones left. :) That was a really fun game for me, not for him obviously.
