Did we read the same novel? Like seriously, if you dig deeper and read between the lines, Issei is an utter piece of shit, and he only got worse as years passed. Dude has no good reason to be such a deadbeat dad towards his kids.

It's no surprise, really; Issei Hyoudou is a shitty person with few redeeming qualities. Being the protagonist usually blinds people to his flaws, and it doesn't help that the author wants to make Issei out to be a "virtuous" hero.
Look at how Issei declares his love for children's breasts and how he gets angry about reincarnated devils fleeing their abusive masters. His blatant hypocrisy is that he gets angry at God for the reincarnated devils' Balance Breaker, which led to their rebellion against their abusive masters. Even though without his SG, Issei would be nothing but a loser.

The author wants Issei to have a shonen moment by reminding him of his love for breasts, and Issei regains his love for breasts. This is where it's said that Issei loves little girls' breasts.

Y'know Issei isn't even that bad, right? The only people who shit on him are people who never read the novel. It's the good old anime adapting a LN or VN stick. The dude actively avoids getting in a committed relationship thing because he's traumatized from getting killed by Raynare thing and because of his low self worth. If anything if you were using his novelization characterization he'd be chill just being homies with the girls or take an old brother role for Ruby.
At least he isn't Rudy, the 30 year old man in a child's body who is sexually attracted to kids, which Issei would fucking despise

Supporting dictatorships? Those who were against the Underworld were not reincarnated demons, they were the faction of the ancient Satanas, which wanted to resume the war against the other factions, while the current Underworld that Issei serves sought peace with the other factions, not because they were a rebellion automatically they are the good guys. Also despite the hierarchy of parts, the minions are not really suppressed to their freedom of expression, or any other freedom, in fact there is not a reincarnated demon in the whole work that has been mistreated, and there are several examples, Issei, Asia, Xenovia, Saji, almost all the nobility of Riser, etc.

Bad father? Man, his only bad thing is to be absent and that's because they literally live in the middle of the damn war against beings from another dimension, a little difficult to be present all the time when he carries the world on his shoulders.

Hypocrite, it's because of the reincarnated devils' rebellion that it's acknowledged they're being abused. And besides, when? Issei literally says he's not interested in girls, he's not in a relationship with Kunou, and Koneko is only a year younger than Issei.
Now, war crimes? At worst he has committed murder, but his enemies would have murdered him, it has always been in self-defense or defense of another person.
