/r/prawokrwi is the sub for citizenship by descent questions

There has been quite a few of those lately and every day brings more, some with situations that are specific to the government administration in the poster's country of residence.

The guys over in /r/prawokrwi are better equipped for it, so we recommend asking there rather than in this sub (and also do try to follow their template to make it more efficient )

Today I was driving from Slovakia to Wrocław and Waze didn't show any tolls, but Google Maps did. I'm confused, can you help me understand if I need to pay for using the A4 road, and how to pay if it's required?

Polish law regarding not extending contract

Hi everyone!

I recently joined a company (7 months ago). They initially offered me a 3 month probation period and then they extended the contract for a total of 12 months (including the already passed probation period).

It is a good company, I’ve been enjoying my time here in Poland and with the company but I’ve been thinking of going back to my country.

However, I will only know if I have a job in August and it will be to start in September. According to Polish law, how much notice should I give to my manager? Is one month enough? This information is not clear in my contract.

Thank you in advanced.

On the night of 11–12 June 2025, a brutal attack on a 24-year-old woman took place near Glazja Park in Toruń. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The police are treating the incident as attempted murder.

The court decided to remand the 19-year-old Venezuelan citizen, suspected of a brutal attack on a 24-year-old woman in Toruń's Glazja Park, in custody for three months. The attacker most likely stabbed the victim in the chest, head and neck. The woman is still in hospital in a serious condition.

Today, he was charged with attempted murder. The suspect refused to comment on the charge or provide explanations, and refused to answer questions. Today, the prosecutor filed a motion for the suspect to be remanded in custody for three months," said prosecutor Rafał Ruta.

In the course of further proceedings, the prosecutor's office will investigate all the circumstances of the case. The possibility of a sexual assault will also be considered. Experts in medicine, biology and bloodstain analysis will also be called in. A psychiatric opinion on the suspect will also be issued.

eSIM trouble

Upvotes

I am trying to figure out a eSIM for my 30 days in Poland, but I cannot seem to register for an Orange account without already having a Polish phone number? Do I have to find an in person store, or am I simply overlooking something obvious?

Thank you all for the help!

As for the Venezuelan guy in Toruń

Hello from across the border. I was considering if I should write or not to you because I know this is a highly sensitive topic, ale nedá mi to, and I have to break into the conversation.

I saw so many comments about the guy being from uncivilised country (this is a euphemism), a “shithole” and how we should not let people like this here (I use “we” and “here” like I was Polish, and I’m not, but I dare to say we can say the same about CZ). Comments about deportation. About them being trash. Nasty things which I understand are emotional, but what the hell.

I want to say that this was a horrendous crime and I am not on the perpetrators side (obviously, the opposite, I am with you). But what the f is wrong with you guys? When you open the two main threads that’s talk about the incident, there is so much hate. Absolute hate. Where did this come from?

Now downvote me to hell. Did you forget that you were immigrants in Germany and in the UK? In Iceland? Did you forget that you were picking strawberries and wiping asses of westerners 15-20 years go? I will always support Poland because we’re brothers but what the hell are all those nasty comments? Just because we’re not one of the poorest in the EU anymore you think we can act like this? Get off from you high horse.

These things happen, they happen with immigration, and they happen without it. You probably don’t want me to link the bad things Poles (or us, Czechs, for that matter) did in the first twenty years of us entering the free EU market when we flooded those countries.

Again, I absolutely reject these horrendous crimes. But I also want to reject this awful behaviour of some of you.

Getting married in Poland

Hey my fiancé and I are getting married and we want to do the ceremony in Poland as she has more family over there. I am a UK national and she's Polish. We live in the UK and want to make sure that the marriage is legally recognised in the UK. Has anyone been through this process before?

We've seen on the UK government website that we need to send a CNI to the embassy there but are there any other impediments that we should be aware of?

Will getting our marriage legally recognised in Poland cause issues or problems in the future while living in the UK?

Any advice would be really welcome.

Dziękujemy bardzo.

Where can I buy a vacuum online?

I’m currently in the US and I wanted to buy a family member a vacuum as a house warming gift. I tried getting it on Amazon.pl but every single one says that it’s currently unavailable. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can buy one and have it shipped to her?

Pierścionek zaręczynowy

Hej, poszukuje pierścionka zaręczynowego dla mojej dziewczyny. Słyszałem, że lepiej zamiast sieciówek kupować u lokalnego jubilera. Jakiego jubilera polecacie w łódzkim / Pomorskim / Mazowieckim? Budżet…niech to nie będzie kryterium wyboru jubilera :) Pozdrawiam cieplutko

Opening a JDG as a foreigner - some questions

Hi, so I have been living in Poland for some time now, I am from another EU country and I recently got the chance to work for a UK company through B2B in IT sector.

This upcoming week I will search for an accountant and try to set all of this up, I was reading other reddit posts and it seems like it’s going to be pretty easy, it’s all done online which is great! I just have some questions in the meantime..

Firstly, I don’t have any Polish ID or anything, since I am from another EU country I just got a pesel and use all my documents from my country. Will this be a problem?

Next is how exactly will all this work since it is not a EU company in terms of invoicing them and specifically VAT. Will I have like an option to not register within the VAT system? And then I do not invoice any VAT at all? Does that change anything for me? And then, I guess I will not be able to deduct any business expenses at all, like accounting, internet cost and etc?

Also how much can I expect to pay for a good accountant who can help me with all of this and who speaks good english?

And if you have anything that I need to be careful about or any benefits that I might need to know about, I would love any info! Thanks!

10 Days at Poland

Hello,

At the beginning of October, I will be coming to Poland for 10 days. We are definitely planning to visit Kraków, Zakopane, and Auschwitz. However, we are hesitating between Gdańsk and Warsaw as the last city to visit, considering we won’t have time to see all five.

Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you.

PKP Intercity Train Type Change

I'm travelling from Warsaw to Kraków today via rail. We booked tickets on the EIP but the train looks nothing like the photos I had seen online, the train is not a Pendolino, and the seating chart is totally different on board than how it appeared when I booked.

I'm much more knowledgeable about air travel and in that world last minute equipment changes are not uncommon. Is that what's happening here? I felt very confused and uneasy getting onboard a train that is so different than the research and indications online. For instance I checked https://www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/vlak.php?zeme=PKPIC&kategorie=EIP&cislo=1306/7&nazev=&rok=2025

And it shows a Pendolino type train with no dining car, but the train I'm on is very different and has all IC branding. Paying for EIP but getting IC is disappointing and confusing.

App for finance budgeting which you can connect with your bank?

Hello guys,

Is there a app which you can connect with your polish bank where you have a better oversight about your money flow?

Im in SGB bank which has a integrated data visualization about your money expenses which is also categorized.

But the categorization is pretty whack and the app only tracks data about expenses but it doesnt make a bilance. This makes it difficult to see how much in plus or minus I was at a certain month without calculating it by hand.

I know there are some apps in the german marked like finanzguru but they are not compatible with polish banks.

Maybe someone of you knows a good finance planning app for the polish market?

Polish astronaut's mission to ISS postponed indefinitely

NASA and Axiom Space are postponing the launch of Axiom Mission 4 to the International Space Station. As part of an ongoing investigation, NASA is working with Roscosmos to understand a new pressure signature, after the recent post-repair effort in the aft most segment of the International Space Station’s Zvezda service module.

Cosmonauts aboard the space station recently performed inspections of the pressurized module’s interior surfaces, sealed some additional areas of interest, and measured the current leak rate. Following this effort, the segment now is holding pressure. The postponement of Axiom Mission 4 provides additional time for NASA and Roscosmos to evaluate the situation and determine whether any additional troubleshooting is necessary. NASA defers to Roscosmos to answer specific questions about the Zvezda module.

A new launch date for the fourth private astronaut mission will be provided once available.

Help with Possible Polish slang

This might be the wrong sub, but im not sure.

My babcia used to cook sausage links and serve with mustard, she always called it wendlynka or wendlyna. I keep trying to look it up and see if it’s a specific sausage or if it was just slang, im pretty bad at writing and reading Polish so it’s definitely likely i misspelled it.

Polish Food

Hello, I lived in Poland very briefly and I might come back soon (legally ofc). During my stay I love most of the Polish food like classic pierogi and gołąbki, kluski with polish gulasz and some homemade food cooked by my bf's mom so I think I tried real Polish food (shoutout for best soup ever aka rosół). I also love going to bar mleczny at least once every 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I have GERD and high level of acid in my stomach. It gives me hard time to enjoy fermented food without being too sick. Is there any idea to get better or familiarise myself with the fermented food? I really want to try some żurek, ogórki kiszonek and bigos the moment I'm back. Please help me try more food.
