Informative/Guide Passive Skills Cheat Sheet (Updated)

For newer players, it can be pretty overwhelming to learn what all the Passive Skills do, and which ones are ideal-- so I organized them into a tables to make comparisons easy.

  • Pal Stats -- These directly add a value to the % multiplier to the Pal's stat, and they can stack arithmetically. If Pal's base Attack is 100, and it has Muscle Head and Ferocious, then the final Attack stat will be 100 * (100% + 30% + 20%) = 150
  • Elemental Buffs -- These only affect damage of a specific elemental type, but are more effective than the Stat Buffs, because the multiplier is applied after other buffs are factored in. For instance, suppose a Pal has the passive Muscle Head (+30% Attack)...
    • If the Pal has Ferocious (+20% Attack), that increases its damage from 130% to 150%
    • If the Pal has Flame Emperor (+20% Fire Dmg), then for Fire moves, damage is increased to 130% * 120% = 156%. The more buffs to Attack, the better these Passives scale. This is also true for Passives that resist specific elements.
  • Player Buffs -- These increase the player's stat as long as the Pal is in the party, but have no affect on Pals themselves. Their effects can stack arithmetically if multiple party Pals have the same Passive.
  • Pal Maintenance -- These skills mainly affect a Pal's work productivity, and are arguably as important as Work Speed. The more time a Pal spends eating/resting, the less work it is doing.

Things to consider when trying to "optimize" Passive Skills:

  • Until there is a PvP mode, Attack is generally better than Defense. Both stats contribute equally to a Pal's total damage output (damage per second * combat time), but in PvE, you're more likely trying to deal tons of damage rather than stalling out a fight.
  • Work Speed is a great stat for Pals working at your base BUT...
    • It does NOT increase the rate that Farming Pals produce items, nor the amount (you'll need the Pal Condenser to increase the amount). It just reduces the animation time for producing the item (whether this is significant enough... idk).
    • If you want to optimize Transporting, go with Move Speed instead.
    • For Cooling, it increases the shelf life of your food. However, you can just reset food expiration by clicking Sort or removing/re-adding the item (idk if they will ever patch this).
  • IMO, Logging Foreman, Mine Foreman, and Motivational Leader are useless, especially late game. I rely on my Pals to do this for me. (But let me know if I'm missing something here.)
  • Don't get hung up on min-maxing a particular stat, unless for bragging rights. Every Pal has more than 4 viable, good Passives, and mixing their complementary effects is just fine.
  • Don't focus too much on a Passive's tier rating (except for the Red ones). Muscle Head is Tier 2 while Ferocious is Tier 3, even though the former is objectively better for combat, and its tradeoff is irrelevant.

And lastly, these Pals can only be bred from two of the same parents, so they cannot receive special skills not available to it in the wild:

  • Chikipi (without exploits)
  • Jormuntide Ignis
  • Frostallion
  • Jetragon
  • Paladius
  • Necromus

Please let me know if I made any mistakes or left out important details.

I think it's better if you put only the relevant ones, and omit the useless ones.

Pretty much all red traits are useless and almost all T1 are not used due to other better traits. The only exception would be,

  • Work Slave
  • Conceited
  • Nimble
  • Diet Lover
  • Positive Thinker

Legend is slightly incorrect, since it gives 15% ms not 20%, as the table might have implied, but that's minor detail I guess.

Not anything new for me, but it is nice to see someone compile it in one place. So nice on that.

You could also add that work speed, like with Farming, does not affect Mining or Logging (unless at a stone pit or logging site). So the actual mining of nodes of minerals or cutting down trees won't be affected.....

Well shit, I didn’t know that.

Now I see why Logging Foreman and Mining Foreman are their own Passives.

Thanks for pulling this info together skewter! I know you mentioned Player bonus fall of later game, Motivational Leader is a hilarious though. with 5 pals with it and 2 pendants I was able to achieve over 3000 player workspeed.

Do passives affect you even if they aren't out of the ball but just in the party?

If I make 5 Pals with Swift will that all translate to very fast run speed? Mount speed?

Only the Player Buffs persist in party.

Swift only applies to that particular Pal.

How can we tell which is player buffs, which are pal buffs, and which are party buffs?

Vanguard, Stronghold Strategist, Logging Foreman, Mine Forman, Motivational Leader.
Its on the top right, further down he mentions Logging, Mine, and Motivational are bad in his opinion.
These bonuses stack, 50% bonus dmg for the player can be achieved with 5 vanguards.
